It's the sorrowing years of the Second World War, where men laid down their lives in sacrifice to their countries and families. To prepare for D-Day, many crew members had to risk their lives behind some of the most hard-working steam locomotives to date. Welcome to the Riviera Line as it was during the war, aboard the USATC S160... Can I remember how Semaphores used to work?

There is a S160 in Crewe, Virginia in the States. Although its been stripped of almost all the controls except the throttle, its still a nice piece of history. In case you want to know, Crewe was named after the British Crewe, like many cities in Virginia, but it was made as a train town. So, it was the halfway point between Norfolk and Roanoke, Virginia on the Norfolk & Western line. Today, it is still the halfway point on the Norfolk Southern. :)

28:12 Oh god. I do like the editing you did the text XD. and the tanks you are transporting are Cromwells. There is also a Cromwell B ( Used by the Amaricans ) The oher tanks located at the begining are Amarican M18 Hellcat Tamk Destroyers. They where the fastest in thier class in the war. But their Armour was weak and their Turret as slow as a snail when turning.

I believe the best one is 5820 on the KWVR where I volunteer it's whistle is one of my the "short whistle" options and it's chuff sounds are about 20 mph but you can definitely tell if it is running

as far as I'm concerned, 2253 is at the Moors undergoing a review before an overhaul, 5820 is at the Worth Valley in operational condition and 6046 is/was on loan to the Moors and is owned by Churnet Valley in operational condition. Can't actually remember where she is because as you say, she's been to West Somerset and a ton of other places!!

90 days. If only the men who built knew that there were still many of them still left and in steam around 70 years after the war ended. American engineering at some of it's finest.

The route is set in the 1950s, but that doesn't stop people making scenarios not in that era, same as how slam door EMU scenarios exist for an otherwise modern London-Brighton route

While the route is set in the fifties, what do you expect Victory Works to do if they want to build a Wartime locomotive? Set back an entire route only a decade, for only one locomotive? In this case all we can do is deal with it, under the same logic you'd have to see the every NSE or BR loco made by any developer come with an era specific route, and that would just take way too much time and effort for, in this case at least, very little route differences. :P

If they were only built to last 90 days, why did they paint them?
@Moleman978
@Moleman978 8 лет назад
I would imagine so as to protect the metal from the outside world, unless built with the right materials (and let's be fair its WW2, exact supplies are a rarity), the locomotives - especially in the UK with all the rain, or indeed in Russia in the cold and snow etc. - would begin to rust and be useless within weeks if not days. Matte Black was chosen as it was considered to be the most labour and resources-free option, which had the added benefit of making the locos harder to see at night, last thing you need when mounting an invasion is an enemy high-flying bomber squad that can see reflections from the firebox.
