From what I have learned in the video lecture of Rizal in Dapitan, I think he enjoyed his exile in that place. It is because of his activities in Dapitan where he was able to enhance his concept of practical leadership, self and community improvement that strengthens his aspiration to love the country. He has done a lot of good in the community he has lived in. I can say that he improved the lifestyle of the people there by teaching them the knowledge that Dr. Jose Rizal has. Apart from the activities, also because of the people who considered him a friend, one of them was Don Ricardo Carnicero who was the politico-military Governor of Dapitan. And of course, because of Josephine Bracken who was adopted by Mr. George Tauffer, she became the common-law wife of Dr. Jose Rizal. Common-law marriage only because of what Fr. Obach on "No retraction, No Marriage". I think Rizal's greatest contribution to Dapitan is the houses, clinics, and schools he built. The school is for children to study and learn. The clinic was for the patients he helped with their ailments as he became the first doctor in the community. Youth is indeed very important for Dr. Jose Rizal because of the construction of the school he helped many children to get an education. 1. I believe that Rizal enjoyed his stay in Dapitan despite being exiled then. I think it was more of Rizal creating an opportunity, than just pure enjoyment. 1. Despite being thrown into exile in Dapitan, I really think Rizal enjoyed his stay there. Because if he weren’t, he wouldn’t have helped the people and the community there. 1. I think what made Rizal special was his ability to contribute and influence the places he had gone to, no matter the reasons. When he was out traveling different places abroad with the idea of his mission on his back, he still found reasons to enjoy life and give a part of him where people could get lessons from. Not only Filipinos but also people from other countries had been influenced by him one way or another. Thus, I believe that Rizal did enjoy most, if not all, of his stay in Dapitan. In Dapitan, he was able to find a friend in the politico-military Governor and was able to meet the girl whom he wanted to spend his life with. Although most of this came with a price, Rizal’s principles stayed intact with him. He denied the offer of Father Obach of letting him live at the Parish convent provided that he would make things against his moral beliefs and even enhanced his concept of practical leadership and nationalism. Almost all of the improved and newly induced aspects in Dapitan by the time of Rizal's visit were done by him. I think the greatest contribution of Rizal does not end on one of the firsts that he became, but rather the overall essence of his works there. He showed how a place could be improved with the right knowledge about things. The beauty of this is that knowledge could be passed on. Once a person learned something, he would carry it for the rest of his life and then pass it on to the next generation, and the next generation would do something similar to it, maybe even more improved. He found friends in Dapitan who helped him improve and stoke his desire. I can say that Rizal continued to lead a simple life while still managing to adapt and assist the populace, providing for some of their needs like healthcare, education, and other programs that the entire city could profit from. While at Dapitan, he also had the chance to develop his sense of national pride and leadership. His life was made happy and rewarding by playing the lotto and working with and creating associations for farmers. Overall, I believe that because he made so many things to benefit the city, Dr. Jose Rizal loved his time in Dapitan. He indulges in developing his skills and talents, pursuing his love for Josephine Bracken, and even making attempts to start a family. His conflicted feelings, in my opinion, rendered him ordinary. He is reminded of his genuine mission for the Philippines and the worth of life. 2. While at Dapitan, Rizal had an impact. He made a lot of extracurricular contributions that benefit everyone, not just one particular person. However, his extraordinary contribution to the residents of Dapitan began when he began developing recreational activities and programs that will assist the neighborhood realize its potential and show them that there are people who can support their basic requirements. The people of Dapitan found inspiration in Rizal because of the way he started building schools, used social and environmental engineering, became their rural doctor, and worked as a businessperson. He helped them understand they were capable of much more. Rizal also thought about imparting to children a feeling of nationalism and the idea that communal growth should be for everyone, not just some. Rizal is a man of honor and passion, and he made it very plain to the residents of Dapitan. 1. Rizal’s stay in Dapitan wasn’t really an exile, based on what happened with him there, he technically became a better person. Rizal’s stay was more productive than what the friars would expect, he showed and proved that he is the qualities of a hero. Being able to serve and help the towns people while being exile is not a normal thing to do for a average person, but he kept his cool and managed. Rizal being friends with a Spanish official just shows as well that he does not harbor anger, he wants peace and understanding between two countries, he wants what was best for his country while keeping everything in consideration. After learning all what he did for that town, I can say that he was more satisfied in his stay therefore he enjoyed it, the contentment is felt with his farewell letter when he was leaving to be relocated. 2. As I read his achievements while he was staying in dapitan, I was amazed as to how many can an exiled man can do for a place. Showing that anyone has the capacity to help even under Rizal’s current conditions. As for me, I would think that the best thing he ever did for dapitan was establishing a school. Yes, the other things would help the town prosper and some have a great impact since it was an immediate response to a certain situation but developing school would benefit the town in the long run and would bare a bigger fruit for town in the future, the school has a chance of producing students with the same potential as Rizal and that alone would create a wider and fruitful future for any town or country. This is my take since I believe that education is essential for the future since as Rizal have said, “Ang bata ang pag-asa ng bayan” and it is the current generation to secure the future that the children need. 3. Jose Rizal was confined in a generous cabin and was being made to apologize for offending the Spaniards and giving morale to the revolution. Jose Rizal actively made the lives of the people in Dapitan easier and help them gain knowledge about many things including, agriculture, social and environmental engineering, business, town planning, beautification, principles of livelihood, and many more. I think that Jose Rizal enjoyed his exile in Dapitan as he was able to till the soil and plant the fruits for the people, he practiced his profession as a physician and eye surgeon, and provided some beautification to the public square. Jose Rizal met Josephine Bracken in Dapitan, that is one of the reason why I believe that he enjoyed his stay in Dapitan despite the hardship that follows him. 2.) Jose Rizal's greatest contribution in Dapitan were the farm in Katipunan, school and dormitory for boys in Talisay, clinic where he treated sickly patients, a dam and waterworks in Talisay, and implementation of street lights in the town square. While Rizal was exiled to Dapitan he tilled soil and gave the farmers some wisdom on how to properly take care of the land and crops while also given advice on how to plant trees and crops. Although the purpose of Rizal coming to Dapitan was exile, for sure his life in there at the start was not easy and certainly not enjoyable since it is another place and another adjustment to make. But learning from the video lecture that many of the things and occasion in Dapitan was the first coming from Rizal, I think that Rizal at the end enjoyed his stay there and worth fulfilling somehow? He set up school and became its first teacher, he introduced many things such as livelihood programs, and became a doctor to help the place because it does not have medical needs. 1. I think yes, he did enjoyed his life in Dapitan because when Jose Rizal won the prize from the Spanish lottery, he bought three houses there that is made of bamboo, nipa, and wood. His life there is simple yet, I think he enjoyed his stay there. Dapitan is also the place where Jose Rizal met Josephine Bracken. Also, I can say that he enjoyed his stay there because he build some schools and hospitals there in Dapitan. If he really not enjoyed his stay in Dapitan, I think he would not build some sort of infrastructures that can help the other people living there. 2. For me, I think Jose Rizal's greatest contribution there in Dapitan is that, he was able to build some schools and hospitals which is very needed there. 1. I can describe Rizal’s life in Dapitan as simple, yet fulfilling and productive for him and the people of the said place. We can argue that he enjoyed his exile in Dapitan but there are some statements shown that Rizal have enjoyed his stay; First, the politico-military Governor of Dapitan, “Don Ricardo Carnicero” treated him as a friend. And with that, we can say that his stay was not suffocating or uncomfortable to live at. Second, he found love with Josephine Bracken. And as we all know, being in love means that you enjoy the accompany of that person. Third, he loves being productive, and as he helped the people of Dapitan in several things like town planning, being a doctor, acting as a teacher and such, he made his situation a productive one. Lastly, we all know that he loves to gain and improve his knowledge, and as he helps the people of Dapitan, he enhanced his concept of practical leadership and nationalism. With these several statements, we can argue that, yes, he enjoyed his exile in Dapitan. 2. I think that Rizal’s greatest contribution in Dapitan was him setting up a school to the said place for the following reasons: First, it was said in the lecture that Dapitan is a place that appears in a desolate state meaning it is not developed and can be called lacking in civilization. For that case, education is what the people and the place of Dapitan really needs to have to progress. With that being said, setting up a school and teaching the people means that Rizal will also be the first teacher to the school and the land as no one is capable to teach yet. During his stay in Dapitan he used his exile to further his education and help the people at Dapitan at the same time. His enjoyment was hard to say since it is a bittersweet event of his life. On the other hand he was staying at a place that he is not comfortable and out of his comfort zone at the same time over there. 2. Even if the town of Dapitan in in primitive agriculture and people were dying with different diseases, Dr. Jose Rizal chose to stand up and lead the people in teaching them to improve their community and treat his patients in their illnesses. He did not waste his time during his exile as he contributed in the community development of Dapitan and lead the townspeople in developing the livelihood of everyone. Dr. Jose Rizal served as the First Filipino doctor with a social conscience in Dapitan. To sum it up, I am sure that he really did enjoy his exile in Dapitan. 2) I do think that Rizal's greatest contribution in Dapitan was improving the whole town into a prosperous one. Jose Rizal was exiled in Dapitan located in Zamboanga Del Norte, he was exiled there in July 6, 1892 and he was confronted by the Governer-general for his Anti-Friar bills that were supposedly found in his sister's luggage, Lucia. He got imprisoned in Fort Santiago from July 6 to 15. He was exiled in Dapitan for four years before his execution in Dec 30, 1896. For me, I think he enjoyed his exile in Dapitan because he was active there and he did a lot of many things during his 4 years of stay in Dapitan, he put up a school in there and he taught different subjects to the students around their. Rizal also provided medical service because he does have a knowledge in medicine, he treated many illness and sickness because there were no doctors in there and only Jose Rizal could help him. He also directed the water system there to provide water throughout Dapitan. 2.) Rizal did many things in Dapitan while he was there, he was very active and doing everything he can to improve the place where he was, he helped many people that he can. The video that Sir E! shared was a kid that admires Pepe, also known as Jose Rizal but he says that he doesn't know how to become "ang kabataan ang pag asa ng bayan" because he didn't enjoyed and experienced youth. All he did was to work because of their financial problem, his father is always drunk and he would always get beaten up by his father because he's not the biological sone and his mother we're always in church to pray. The boy doesn't know what to do because he's not that smart like Jose Rizal, he wonders how he can be the hope of our country if he by himself doesn't experienced childhood, he does have many problems in life as well as challenges that he's dealing with. But after all, Jose Rizal did inspired the boy to pursue studying despite the challenges that he encounters, at the end of the video, the boy was already a teacher and is teaching history to the class. For me, the video is all about even if we don't have the intelligence of Jose Rizal, we can still be a hope to our country, even if we didn't experienced something, we don't have the talent just like Pepe have, we can still be a hero and give and inspire someone to do their best even at their lowest. 4.) 1. I would say that Rizal's life in Dapitan goes smoothly for someone who is exiled. He gained friends and even met his lover, Josephine, in Dapitan. Rizal even built a village of his own, complete with essentials needed in that place. He became a doctor and even the first to build an educational building in Dapitan. With all of his help in developing and beautifying Dapitan, Rizal must be admired and respected by many. Enough that the people even held a funeral song as they bid farewell when he was about to depart from the place. Obach, a Parish priest of Dapitan, said that if there is no retraction, there will be no marriage. Jose Rizal lost his baby boy named Francisco at Dapitan and was buried under the Santol Tree. I think he did not enjoy his exile in this place but at the same time he introduced many things in Dapitan. Jose Rizal faced many problems in Dapitan which I think he did not enjoy his exile. 2. He also helped the community by building houses, clinic and school and also improved the surroundings because in that time in Dapitan, the community is desolate and there are no peace life since it is controlled by military. He also met his love Josephine Bracken in which they were not married because Fr. Obach made a policy of “No Retraction - No Marriage”. Instead, they live-in together with their baby boy Francisco but got dead in that time. Therefore, I think Dr. Jose Rizal enjoyed his tenure in Dapitan even though it was hard to stay since it is controlled by military and far from Manila. 2.) I think the greatest contribution that Dr. Jose Rizal did in Dapitan was to help people live in a better life since Dapitan is not right to make some good things because it is controlled by military. In this place, he also met his common-law wife, Josephine Bracken, whom he valued greatly, therefore she played a part in his life as well. This marital relationship resulted in a stillborn baby named Francisco. His conflicted feelings, in my opinion, made him an ordinary citizen. Although he lived there for four years and thirteen days, he never lost sight of his true purpose for the Philippines. 2. Rizal made significant contributions to Dapitan's reformation. In order to maintain the national integrity and good governance, self-improvement and community growth are essential. During his exile, we learned that Rizal even made friends with the politico-military governor Don Ricardo Carnicero which is unusual to see from a prisoner and his jail guard. 2. Rizal's greatest contribution to Dapitan, in my opinion, was his ability to construct a school and clinic in Talisay. We studied that Zamboanga del Norte, particularly Dapitan, was indeed a politico-military outpost of the Spaniards in the Philippines during this time and that education was not really a privilege for all. Afraid of letting Jose Rizal spread its influence all throughout Manila, the Spaniards decided to have a strict security with Jose Rizal's activities. I believe that Rizal somewhat enjoyed his exile in Dapitan but did not enjoy it most of the time. I think he enjoyed those times where he was able to help people in Dapitan, a people from his country. In fact, there were lots of achievements or records that Jose Rizal has done in Dapitan. One of these was, winning a lottery worth 1000 pesos. He had lots of contributions to help the people but then I'm not sure if he made himself happy during his exile. That is why, I think Rizal somewhat enjoyed his exile in Dapitan. 2) Among all the contributions that Jose Rizal had in Dapitan, I believe that setting up a school was the greatest. There is an old famous line up until today, 'Ang karunungan ay kayamang hindi mananakaw." Translated to English, Knowledge is a treasure that cannot be stolen. Jose Rizal setting up a school for Dapitan is the greatest help which I believe. Helping the people, the children grow and expand their knowledge about the things that are needed in life is the best investment for the schools that he had setup. Schools will be the children's starting point to gain knowledge and learn things to help them achieve greatness in the future. As what Jose Rizal's famous line suggests. "Ang kabataan ay ang pagasa ng bayan." Thus, these children will start from scratch and be taught at school to build them, shape them, and help them grow as someone who will be able to contribute to our country someday. 1. I think that at first, he didn’t enjoy his exile in Dapitan but later on somehow, he enjoyed it. Based on the lecture video, I think the first thing that made Rizal happy with his stay in Dapitan is when he won the 1000 Php from the lottery of the Spaniards. When he won the lottery, this became the start of all the good things that he did in Dapitan. He uses it to build his house, a school that has the Atenean system of education, and clinic. He starts to construct the proper water system for the town. He did so many things to improve the community in Dapitan. That is why I think he started to enjoy his stay in Dapitan when he won the lottery. 2. I think the greatest contribution of Rizal in Dapitan is education. Because in my opinion, the best gift our parents can give us is knowledge. The same thing happened in Dapitan; he gave the locals knowledge, and in my opinion, nothing else can take the place of peoples' knowledge. I always value the knowledge that my parents, instructors, and peers impart to me because of this. BONUS: It is about a bully teenager who always gets beaten by his father. The narrator and the protagonist in this video are always asking pepe or Rizal about how the children will become the hope of our country. Because with all the bad things that happening in his life how can he become the hope of our country. Dapitan was like a place where it's like deserted or, should I say, undeveloped part of the Mindanao. He won the lotto like any other average person. Through that, he could buy 70 hectares of land in Talisay. With the help of the lottery that he won, he built buildings, houses of his own and his pupils, and even patients. He formed a farmer's association to increase agricultural output and income. A Jesuit Parish priest of Dapitan named Father Antonio Obach, Dr. Jose Rizal, was given the option to live in the parish convent under certain circumstances, but he was rejected. He was also about to marry Josephine Bracken. On the other hand, the Parish Priest stated that there was no retraction-that there would be no marriage. So, they chose to live together, which was the proper thing for a pair to do. He also expanded his knowledge of practical leadership and nationalism. I think the years that Dr. Jose Rizal was exiled in Dapitan, and he was able to be assessed what this place, the political-military outpost based by Spaniards, was, needed a profound development and pay more attention to especially towards the education, livelihood, and health-related. 2. Yes, even if Rizal went into exile in Dapitan, he was able to make his situation productive. This may remind us that no matter what lifestyle we have, we can still do anything. The smallest and easiest way can make a difference. Our hero managed to do something good, even in exile. He did not limit himself, he absorbed his surroundings. 2. His greatest contribution, for me, is that he became the first rural doctor in Dapitan. I highly believe it was a great help to people in Dapitan. Especially way back in the day when deaths are caused by illnesses that is curable but cannot do so because of a lack of doctors. He helped minimize the pains of everyone around him. 1. I think Dr. Jose P. Rizal enjoyed his stay in Dapitan because in the first few weeks of his stay in Dapitan he won in a Spanish lottery with and receive a one thousand pesos cash. Don Ricardo Carnicero treated Rizal as a friend when he arrived in Dapitan but, the priest Father Antonio Obach only offered him lodging at the convent only if Rizal publicly retract his errors concerning religion, make statements the he is pro-Spanish and against revolution, perform church rites, confess about his past life, and henceforth conduct himself in an exemplary manner as a Spanish subject and a man of religion. In my opinion I think Jose Rizal was a bit sad because he was away from his family especially from his mother knowing that he was imprisoned and was relocated in Dapitan but somehow enjoyed because it was simple but worthwhile because he experience many things and had different activities that help him to enhanced his concept of practical leadership and nationalism, self-improvement and community, and vital development in national integrity and good governance. His experience in Dapitan was worthwhile because he did so many things and experience many things he never did before like setting up a school, became a sanitary engineer, a practitioner of town planning and beautification, organized an association of farmers and even won in Spanish lottery. Even though Rizal was an exile in Dapitan, he was still able to maximize his stay there and make his situation productive but most importantly he met Josephine Bracken whom he lived with and had a son but unfortunately died. 2.) Jose Rizal helped with the education, beautification, economy, health of the people, and overall development of Dapitan. Jose Rizal introduce environmental engineering, became a rural doctor, and a teacher, help with the economy of Dapitan, and others. However, Jose Rizal's greatest contribution to Dapitan was providing a school to the people of Dapitan. When Jose Rizal won the lottery, he bought land for his house and his school. He, even so, became the first teacher for the children. It was very helpful for the children in Dapitan but also for the future of the children. 1. When Rizal was exiled to Dapitan, I think he enjoyed his time there. It is stated in the lectures that he did many first in Dapitan, which I believe is quite academically and emotionally rewarding for him. 1) Base on my own perspective on the video lecture, I don't think that Rizal is having fun or enjoyed his time in Dapitan that much at first time due to the changes with his lifestyle since he was having a hard time trying to adapt the life he lived compare before. Even Rizal have a difficult day there is still a day which was better for him, like he manage to win a lottery that enables him to afford a property that led to be a houses, clinics, and schools for his students and patients which led him to have a good life in that moment in Dapitan. 2) There are many contributions that Rizal was able to do when he was in Dapitan. But for me, it would be the establishing schools and clinics. 1) From my perspective, I think Rizal enjoyed his exile in Dapitan because of the works he did in the Place. Rizal enjoyed his stay there because, after several lectures, I think we can conclude that Rizal found joy from learning and teaching for leisure or for nationalistic purposes; in Dapitan he did both of these things. Rizal maximized his time there, causing him to become the first in several things. Rizal perhaps found enjoyment in Dapitan that he achieved so many things there - even the beautification of the place. I would describe Jose Rizal's stay in Dapitan as a destiny, like he was destined to be there and make a huge difference with regards to how the place and the people in Dapitan have been living. On the other hand, I also think that he enjoyed staying in the place since this is where he met his last love, Josephine Bracken, not only that, but by making an improvement in the city since he practiced enhancing his leadership skills and good governance. Thus, by doing that we all know that ample people can be inspired in what he does. That is why the patriotism in their hearts has awakened as they have seen how Dr. Jose Rizal has been living positively and continues to fight despite being exiled. Furthermore, Dr. Jose Rizal help the citizens in Dapitan in the way he also improves the way of their living, he manages to beautified the plaza by making decorations, and what's more important is his action towards the improvement of the income and how he can help the farmers from gaining more through the use of having associations. 2.Dr. Jose Rizal helped the citizens of Dapitan in many ways that we couldn't even imagine that he had done it all. However, I would say that his greatest contribution in the City was, he was the first person to set up a school in Dapitan, making him also the first teacher. Though he had done so much more like introducing the principles of livelihood, however, knowledge is something we value the most and that is why I think it is his best action towards Dapitan. A school is not only a structure nor a second home it is a building of knowledge, wisdom, a room for improvement as well as enhancing your skills and capabilities. Thus, by having that, people in Dapitan can make much more difference in their City as they start to build a different surrounding. 1. Rizal did what he wanted to do for the Philippines in Dapitan. He applied his dreams and aspirations in this politico-military outpost of the Spaniards. The place that was once with unplanned streets and no access to potable water was changed after Rizal’s help. With the help of the money Rizal won in the lottery, he used it to buy land, beautify the plaza, construct a water system, improve agriculture by organizing farmers to make things more profitable, and also fishing. I would say he made himself worthwhile while being an exile in Dapitan. He did a lot of things in that place while being an exile which says a lot about Rizal’s personality, and nationalism. I think, he enjoyed his stay despite the circumstances of why he was there, he liked helping his fellow Filipinos. This just shows how much Rizal cared for the Philippines and his fellow countrymen. 2. In my opinion, Dr. Jose Rizal’s greatest contribution in Dapitan was the improvement of the livelihood in the city. The once messy and no organization place was improved just by using the winnings of Rizal’s in the Spanish lottery that rewards a thousand Philippine Pesos. Helping the people who were living there, I assume, is what Rizal would also consider his greatest contribution. Rizal being able to actualize his ideals even a small part of his beloved country is already great as is. Him being in exile didn’t stop him from helping the people, he was also very productive. In the absence of potable water, he was able to direct the construction of a water system that will resolve the problem. Rizal’s life in Dapitan was simple, he was like an ordinary citizen, and he was still very productive during his stay there since the place was in an undeveloped part of the country. Like an ordinary citizen, he won a lottery. Also, he bought 700 hectares and built his house there in Talisay. Father Antonio Obach, a Jesuit Parish priest of Dapitan, offered Rizal could life at the Parish convent under a given condition, but Rizal did not accept it. In addition, he almost got married to Josephine Bracken. However, Parish Priest stated that there was no retraction-no marriage. So, they’d decided to live in, and back then, this kind of thing was the right thing a couple could do. He was also treated as a friend by a governor. Moreover, he improved his concept of practical leadership and nationalism. His thoughts during his stay there are that development is needed in national integrity and good governance. All in all, in his four-year exile in Dapitan, he was more likely an ordinary citizen since the city was a politico-military outpost of the Spaniards; he observed the situation of the town and realized how undeveloped it was; improved his concept of leadership and nationalism; he is part of significant development in the Dapitan. In my opinion, his most outstanding contribution to Dapitan was that he put any effort into improving the place. He promoted a thought toward citizens about practical leadership and nationalism that self-improvement and community development are vital to national integrity and good governance. He improved the appearance of the Plaza and organized an association of farmers. With that, he gave an idea to co-Filipinos that good leadership and good organization may result in something suitable for everyone. In addition, he introduces a lot of things in Dapitan, such as Social and environmental engineering, Principles of Livelihood and Self-reliance programs, etc. He is also the first rural doctor, first teacher, first to set up a school, etc. So therefore, I think his most outstanding contribution to Dapitan was his effort to improve the place. 1. Rizal spent the first portion of his exile in Dapitan in the commandant's house. He purchased a plot of land along the beach of Talisay near Dapitan with his winnings from the Spanish Lottery and his earnings as a farmer and trader. He erected three dwellings on this site, all of which were made of bamboo, wood, and nipa. His residence was the first square-shaped dwelling. The second home housed his students' living quarters. I think he enjoyed his exile in this place because he was still able to make his situation productive. In the sense that he created a cooperative even in exile, he has taught the impoverished Mindanao folk to join commerce in order to become independent and liberate themselves from the Chinese, and therefore become less exploited. While many individuals might fear, despair, or lose hope in their life as a result of their exile, Jose Rizal remained to serve his nation. This is what distinguished Jose Rizal as a national hero above the others. He was unquestionably a guy of action. He always placed his compatriots ahead of himself. Rizal constructed an informal school in which he educated many children. He also had patients that sought him out to get healed. Additionally, he enjoys agricultural interests. Rizal founded a school in 1893. It started with three students and eventually grew to sixteen. His students did not pay tuition. Instead of charging tuition, he made them work in his garden, fields, and community building projects. Rizal educated his boys in the following subjects: reading, writing, languages (Spanish and English), geography, history, mathematics (arithmetic and geometry), industrial activity, nature studies, morals, and gymnastics. He taught them how to acquire plant and animal specimens, enjoy hard work, and "behave like men." In addition, as a physician, Rizal developed an interest in indigenous medicine and the utilization of medicinal plants. He investigated the healing properties of the Philippines' medicinal plants. He administered local medicinal plants to needy people who could not afford to purchase imported medicine. Rizal provided care to the sick in Dapitan without ever receiving payment. People began to go to see him, and he charged them according to their financial circumstances. A wealthy Englishman paid $500 to have cataracts removed from his eyes. This money was spent on streetlamps in Dapitan. He had a hospital directly across from his residence. 1. While in Dapitan, Rizal's life was a mix of joy and uncertainty. His time in Dapitan gave him the opportunity to put the knowledge and lessons he had acquired during his life to use in a variety of various activities. He won the Spanish lottery while he was living in Dapitan and used the proceeds to help those who lived there. He started working as a doctor in rural areas. Rizal gave his patients, the majority of whom were underprivileged, free medication. Even though he continued to lead a basic life, he was able to adapt and assist the populace, meeting some of their needs for things like healthcare, education, and other programs that the entire city could use. His life was made happy and rewarding by playing the lotto and working with and creating relationships for farmers. Rizal also thought about imparting to children a feeling of nationalism and the idea that communal growth should be for everyone, not just some. 2. 1. I think a small part of Rizal enjoyed his exile in Dapitan. We all know that he helps the people in Dapitan when he won a lottery, he had a lot of activities and ideas, he is the first to build a school, and he even became a teacher and a rural doctor and a lot more contributions. I personally think that the life of Rizal in Dapitan had a lot of ups and downs as he knew that something was coming or something was up when he was shipped on board on the way to Dapitan, though he was given a good cabin and well guarded I think Rizal was really brave for the possible events that may happen to him. We all know that the place in Dapitan where Rizal was exiled was swampy with unplanned streets, no portable water, and people dying from different diseases, but Rizal did not show any sign that he is scared or even nervousness when he was captured. Rizal even had his love life in Dapitan with Josephine Bracken, the two want to get married but sadly, they failed. And their son Francisco died because of common-law marriage. 2. I think the greatest contribution of Rizal in Dapitan is when he helps the people in Dapitan and he had a lot of contributions. I personally think that all of these are very important but Rizal being a teacher, setting up a school, being a rural teacher, showing a way to community development, and being professional to engage in business stood out the most for me. All of these had a massive impact on us Filipinos, as Rizal help the Filipinos to gain knowledge by giving them education, teaching them business-related, and even helping them when it comes to their health. Though he took his exile in Dapitan at first as a form of punishment, Rizal eventually found ways to make the most of his time there. He pursued several interests, including teaching, medicine, agriculture, engineering, and helping the less fortunate. He opened a medical center and helped the villagers by treating their illnesses and even performed some surgical procedures. Rizal was held in high esteem because of his commitment to improving his society. Rizal worked as a farmer as well. He promoted the use of innovative farming methods and the growth of cash crops like abaca and coconuts. Dapitan benefited from Rizal's efforts to better it. He began the work on the waterworks that now supplies the town's residents with clean water on a consistent basis. He is a grade 5 student who is not that serious in his studies and he is a kid who has bad habit like rugby. Dr. Jose Rizal was Jojo's idol. He might be confused about being a kid because he does not experience like one. He is always questioning what kind of youth will be the hope of our country because of what he knows and see, they just know how to eat, sleep, play, use their gadgets or surf Facebook all day and just being a burden to their family. He asked Dr. Jose Rizal "how to be you, idol?". He remembered something that Pepe said, "The person who works for material things, remove that material thing and that person will be lazy". I realized something from that line, there are some people who work so hard and spent thousands of hours for some material thing they want to buy but if we come to think of it, not all thing here on earth are permanent because all of these are just temporary. 1) On the looks on how Jose Rizal's qualities I think he enjoyed his stay in Dapitan. One of the reason's is the higher ups and the cabin befriending him specifically the politico-military governor of Dapitan which makes his stay more at peace. Another reason is the mere number of memories he have in Dapitan on the four years of his stay in the district it is no wonder that he have created many memories in that place including his relation to Josephine Bracken, helping the city on different things such as in water system and building an education system in the place as one of his legacies. And those are the things on why I think he enjoyed his exile in that place. 2) I think Jose Rizal's greatest contribution in Dapitan is his directing of the Dapitan's water system. The reason this is because water is one of the most essential thing on the world. Having no direct access to a clean drinking and bathing water was a big humanitarian crisis. Jose Rizal being able to direct Dapitan's water system was a big feat that could be used for the future since not like other things, water is important and essential on humans. Also, water is important in education since water gives essential nutrients to help us live and we also need water to take a bath. 1) I am of the impression that although Dr. Jose Rizal was in exile, he did not necessarily suffer during his time there. It’s evident that he was treated with dignity, and received as a friend by the governor of the place - this tells us that he was not in a state of oppression during this story arc. It has been observed that Rizal was able to establish multiple roles and systems while in his time there, which could mean that he was well accepted in the place, and he did not live in isolation. So, I do think that he enjoyed his stay there, despite the formality of being in a state of exile. 2) I think that Rizal’s greatest contribution was his very presence. Of course, setting up a school is easily the most valuable asset a modern society needs to excel, but having a man of his stature there inspires the people to break out of their ideals, and strive for something higher. In summary, all that he did, as numerous as it was, only points up to how capable one person can be. And by the transitive property, how capable each and every one of them can be on their own accord. 1.) I may say that, Dr. Jose Rizal's life in Dapitan was amusing because, even though he was brought there as an exile, he managed to make something good with it. With his knowledge and skills, he helped develop a primitive community and somehow improve the growth of that community towards the development of their town. Another thing is that, even if he has the chance to escape the captivity through the help of the revolutionaries, he stayed true to his words with the Spanish government. This only shows how bright and innocent Jose Rizal's character is. Maybe Jose Rizal did enjoy his stay in Dapitan, because his presence there helped develop a community and shape it under his own from the places that he has been through. When he left Dapitan, the people organized a farewell and played funeral song to express their grief over the departure of Jose Rizal. 2.) Jose Rizal's greatest contribution in Dapitan I think was his initiative to develop that community. He did built schools for the people living there and even became the pioneer teachers there. 1. For me, Rizal may have been imprisoned in Dapitan, but he did not live like one. The threats of the Spaniards did not bind him; in fact, they pushed him to work harder and stand up to them. Rizal appears to be out on the streets. During his exile in Dapitan, Rizal led a fairly simple life. Rizal had established a school where he taught a number of children. He also had patients who sought him out in order to be healed. He also enjoys participating in agricultural activities. Rizal even fell in love with Josephine Bracken and began an intimate relationship with her. Rizal lived a simple but worthwhile life in Dapitan. 2. Since Zamboanga, or Dapitan, is known for uncivilized place and no proper medication for the people living there, his stay in that place became productive and must be also a blessing for those people living there. He managed to build, schools for the children, hospitals/clinics for the sick, build a simple lighting system to enhance the living of the people in Dapitan. He had surely offered his services as a teacher and a doctor there for almost four years, and it is unsurprising that the people of Dapitan felt strongly about Rizal when he left. The people of Dapitan were helped and inspired by our hero. Rizal reminds us that despite obstacles, we can still make positive differences no matter who or what we are. I could say based on what I have learned from the lecture video that the stay of Dr. Jose Rizal in Dapitan really tested his nationality and his faith on his principle as a person who loves his country so much. There were times that he felt difficulties in his couple years in Dapitan. He felt locked in Dapitan because he was not able to go outside of it. There were times where the parish priest there offered him to live in the parish convent in exchange of he will publicly retract his errors concerning religion, perform the church rites and make a general confession of his past life, and that he will conduct himself in an exemplary manner as a Spanish subject and a man of religion. But because of his principle, he denied the offer of the parish priest. He knows that what he was done was right and it was all for the seek of our country's independence. 2.) Rizal have made a lot of contribution in Dapitan during his stay there. Especially when he won the lottery that is worth of 100 pesos. He used the money to innovate the way of living for the people there. He was the first to introduce social and environmental engineering and he also introduce the principles of livelihood and self-reliance programs. It became a a large contributions so that his knowledge would be shared to the people living in Dapitan. Stephen Alconaba // A18 1. Rizal lived a pretty simple life during his banishment in Dapitan. Rizal had built an informal school where he taught several children. He also had patients who went looking for him to get healed. He is also fond of doing agricultural pursuits. Rizal even fell in love and formed his intimate relationship with Josephine Bracken. Rizal’s life in Dapitan was simple, yet worthwhile. Even if Rizal was an exile in Dapitan, he was still able to make his situation productive. This may remind us that whatever lifestyle we may have, we are still capable of doing anything; we can make a difference even in the littlest and simplest ways. Just like Rizal, we should not lock ourselves in a box. Our hero managed to do good things even if he was an exile. He didn’t limit himself, he embraced his surroundings. It was the people who went looking for Rizal during that time. It was the parents who sent their children, and it was the people who travelled to have their eyes checked. Rizal may be an exile, but he did not live like a prisoner. He did not let himself be confined by the threats of the Spaniards, this even urged him to strive more and stand up against them. It seems that Rizal is a free prisoner. 2. As a physician, Rizal provided free medicine to his patients, most of them were underprivileged. However, he also had wealthy patients who paid him well enough for his excellent surgical skill. Among them were Don Ignacio Tumarong who gave Rizal 3000 pesos for restoring his sight, an Englishman who gave him 500 pesos, and Aklanon haciendero, Don Francisco Azcarraga, who paid him a cargo of sugar. His skill was put into test in August 1893 when his mother,Dona Teodora Alonzo, was placed under opthalmic surgery for the third time. The operation was a success, however, Alonzo, ignored her son's instructions and removed the bandages in her eyes which lead to irritation and infection. As an engineer, Rizal applied his knowledge through the waterworks system he constructed in Dapitan. Going back to his academic life, Rizal obtained the title of expert surveyor (perito agrimensor) from the Ateneo Municipal. From his practical knowledge as agrimensor, he widened his knowledge by reading engineering-related books. As a result, despite the inadequacy of tools at hand, he successfully provided a good water system in the province. As an educator, Rizal established a school in Dapitan which was attended by 16 young boys from prominent families. Instead of charging them for the matriculation, he made the students do community projects for him like maintaining his garden and field. He taught them reading, writing in English and Spanish, geography, history, mathematics, industrial work, nature study, morals and gymnastics. He encouraged his students to engage in sports activities to strengthen their bodies as well. There was no formal room, like the typical classroom nowadays. 1. Rizal was exiled and was deported to Dapitan because of the books and articles that Jose Rizal Published that is criticizing the Spain. Due to the difference in environment and him being an exile, Rizal’s life has been difficult and not very enjoyable. I have learned that Rizal was actually placed there by the Spaniards to restrict and limit his influence that may result to a revolution. Jose Rizal was Given a choice to retract what he said and conduct himself in an exemplary manner as a Spanish subject and a man of religion which Rizal obviously declined because it contradicts his beliefs and way of life. 2. 1.) Yes, I think Jose Rizal enjoyed his stay in Dapitan. He has a lot of activities in this place that enhanced his concept of practical leadership and nationalism. He improved the life of citizen in Dapitan. When Jose Rizal won a lottery, he did not keep it to himself instead he built houses, clinic, and school for the community. He beautified the plaza, construct water system, and fix the lighting system. Rizal’s life in Dapitan was very productive in a way that he helps a lot of people while staying there. He was a surgeon, doctor, teacher and engineer. So, yes Jose Rizal did enjoy his exile in this place because he was able to do things that he wanted and hoped for the country and that what makes Rizal as a person. 2.) Jose Rizal has a lot of contributions in Dapitan. He built houses for his students and patients. He gave the town a school that is a very first one to set up in Dapitan. He also built clinic, which I think is the most important of all. It is stated that there were people dying with different disease because of no proper medical services. So, I think it was the greatest contribution of Jose Rizal among all the things he did in Dapitan. In here, he was the first rural doctor and first Filipino doctor with social conscience that shows Jose Rizal was indeed a doctor in mind and heart. Life is very precious to anyone, and someone dying from a disease is a very difficult times especially now that we are in pandemic. And it is very important to sought the right treatment with the help of a doctor. So, I think Jose Rizal already did great when he gave importance to the health of the people living in Dapitan. 3.) MACEREN, A01 I think that Rizal had lived an excellent life in Dapitan. While he had less connections with other people since he has been exiled to Mindanao, he did try his best to improve the dull-looking town at which he lived in. He first saw the moment he entered the town as a desolate place, to which people would less likely to live in due to uninhabitable conditions. Initially, for me he would not like this place, however with his high intellect and the knowledge he learned during his travels, he transformed the town to which it was more beautiful and suitable for people to live. Slowly, Rizal organized everything to which he handled school, business, knowledge, introduced new learnings, and beautified the place. It was the dream he wished for the Philippines to be, to transform the country into a beautiful place for every Filipino to comfortably live in. Even though he accomplished it in a small town, for me he was still happy because he was still able to accomplish his goal even in a small scale. He saw a glimpse of hope that even a small desolate town can be transformed into a beautiful place as long as there is good governance. For me, Rizal's greatest contribution would be the improvement and beautification of the town, from providing schools to improving the economy and the needs of the people. He felt like he wanted to improve upon the town since it is unsuitable for people to live in. He built his house in Dapitan, however he also built houses for his pupils, clinics, and a school. This would provide people to have a good place to live, have good education, as well a place to have check-ups. He even beautified the plaza, improved the water systems, farm production and fishing industry. As a result, people would have a clean water to drink, and have food to feed, and the town look spectacular than before. He did a lot as well during his stay in Dapitan, however the improvement of the town for me was the greatest contribution that Rizal had ever made. This have made a lot of people happy since before it was not a good-looking place, however as Rizal improved it, the townsfolk became happy and will be forever thankful that Rizal took his time and effort for the town and for the people. 1. I think that Jose Rizal managed to make the most of his time in Dapitan despite being exiled. The politico-military Governor of Dapitan treated Jose Rizal like a friend. He enhanced his concept of practical leadership and nationalism and self-development and community development in national integrity and good governance with the activities he did during his stay. We know that Jose Rizal is determining learn various things so even if he has done so many activities, it is still an advantage and enjoyment for Jose Rizal. He also meets Josephine Bracken, his last love, even though they are not married, they still have a live in relationship. 2. I think it would be the list of what the first thing happened in Dapitan that was started by Jose Rizal. Such as being the first to introduce social and environmental engineering, first to show the way to develop their community, first to introduce the principles of livelihood and self-reliance programs, etc. especially the part where Jose Rizal set up a school and became a teacher.
