Artist and costume designer RaeJeanne Newell recently died after a brief but intense illness. RJ brought joy and laughs to Halloween celebrations throughout the Illinois Valley as co-founder of the dance troupe called the “Hocus Pocus Hags.”
Not only did she and her fellow “Hags” rock German techno music every fall, she also designed and sold clever, fun, and traditional costumes and artwork for any and all occasions.
So while RJ is gone, she is certainly not forgotten. As a fun memorial to her lively character and real talent as a costume designer, her family and her friends at NCI ARTworks are pleased to present her final costume design collection exhibit that we are calling, “Out with a Bang” from 6 to 8pm on Friday, June 28th and from 1 to 4pm on Saturday June 29th at the NCI ARTworks Gallery at 400 5th Street in Peru (the west wing entrance of the Westclox Building)-Stop for a libation in her honor and check out her designs. All items are available for purchase via donation, which will be given to RJ’s favorite charities
