The HBX looks great but the RLAARLO is just next level design and quality. They killed it with this truck. I'm an Arrma and Traxxas guy but these look to be right up there in quality and performance, and I need a smaller basher to toss around. Kind of a mix between the XMaxx and the Big Rock. I think I'm gonna purchase the carbon version tonight. So much for the money!
Ya Rlaarlo did great with this one! If this video helped you, using the link I provided to purchase it helps us out, which we appreciate! Thanks man and if you decide to get one, I agree, the carbon version has a lot for the extra $50 👍👍
@publicprofilename4273 lol! Actually I have brought up a similar concept. I imagine China has fewer big diesel trucks running around and so on the non scale cars like monster trucks (the Omni terminator for example) this truly could be real. lol
Hey i want to also add and i don't think I've ever mentioned it but you seem like an awesome dad to your kids. Love how you combined the fun of the with them and spending a ton of quality time with them. They seem to always be having a blast with their pops and I'm sure they will never forget these memories when they're older. Definitely seem like the cool, fun dad lol. All dads should find a hobby both can enjoy and rc seems like the perfect one! 🍻🍻
Received my Terminator today. It's freaking awesome. Love it, best car I have so far. Control is smooth. It is built like a $500 truck. I recommend the aluminum model, the carbon model is sweet, but it's $50 that could be spent on a couple batteries for it as opposed to a bigger motor geared down to match the speed of the aluminum so you're not gaining speed. Love the Traxxas cars, but I would recommend this over just about anything out there for anyone getting into it and for those that want a full hobby grade truck without the 1/9 size. The response is instant, so theres no lag or cogging and the remote is pretty nice.
Hi guy's I've bought the Raarlo carbon fiber model RZ001B-C just waiting on delivery. I needed a Skatepark basher I can't keep using my grandson's vorteks 4x4 3s. Thanks mate great video 👍🦘😁🤣🤣.
The Rlaarlo suspension seems to be the cats ass. It ate up your little speed bump tester and seemed to be a lot smoother. Way netter brakes too. I gotta give it hands down to rlaarlo. Anyways it's my second time to the channel and I'm liking it. Hello from Canada 🇨🇦
I agree with your conclusion, but I’d say there is a caveat. The Rlaarlo, according to them, will be upped to $270 after pre-sales. Meanwhile, I’ve frequently seen the HBX go on sale for $150 since it was released. Once that price disparity kicks in, not sure the Rlaarlo will be worth the extra 💰
I agree! However I’m hoping the “crossed out” price is a gimmick. They raise it too much and they’re not gonna sell many. Hoping it stays where it’s at.
fully kicked.. is $270 now, I'm out on it. I can get a Redcat Blackout or Volcano Pro brushless or one of many Traxxas, Losi, Arrma etc in the 250 to 300 range, so I'm betting I'm not alone in noticing that. I bet it'll be back where I legit think it belongs, 200 sometime in the not too distant future.
@publicprofilename4273 I completely agree it belongs at $200 with the carbon version pretty reasonable still at $250. $270 makes it a hard bargain when not much more gets you a better and bigger truck.
I don't like the Chinese cars creeping above the $200 price point, but great video. I particularly like when you do the comparison videos like this. Can't wait to see the mods that are upcoming and the comparison of modified versions.
I hear ya, but I like the option to have a good China car. If it’s made good, I don’t care where it comes from. I would say for its size, the $200-$250 price is pretty topped out though lol Much higher and might as well shell out for a 3s Arrma. In other words, I definitely see your point lol
AT LAST! I've been over here in St.Albans England, waiting for your next vid. I can understand you must have time issues, what with the little people in your life(who are fantastic,by the way),and those bloody aliens getting in everywhere, but I have to say your content is worth waiting for. I like my RC reviews to be entertaining, informative, and fun.... That's you Buddy...Cheers.
Thanks man!! I shoot for a video a week, but comparisons take much longer to make lol I’m pretty sure my kids are part of the alien clan so that doesn’t help either. Thanks so much dude and super glad you’re enjoying the channel!!

Great comparison video! I haven't driven the Rlaarlo, but just from the video you can tell the difference in handling. And the suspension test was a huge difference too! As always, well done!
It’s awesome get an actually tuff and fast rc for low price now. anything hobby grade at 200$ was not fast or durable surely not both. Awesome small ramp too. Love it. I want one of these smaller scale rockets but each one of ur vids i see the one i want more now. Lol. Looks too fun.
Terminator roller version sounds like a great option also.. just a matter of finding the right motor pinions...i have a few big brushless motors i used in boats laying around, but this truck would probably need a higher kv...would run mine on 2 and 3s..so around 36 mph on 2s and 50mph on 3s would be ideal...thanks for sharing 😊
My recommendation for cars that automatically come with a 2s in the box to just run them on 2s. I have had multiple problems with cars that claim to run on 3s but will stop working the next time around. Unless obviously the car just does not come with batteries.
So I snagged the 2997a after watching some of your videos and for some reason I was completely underwhelmed. Snagged the OT and instantly felt it was the right purchase, amazon has the s2 diff cups so I got those on the way just because. Sent the 2997a back to Amazon, got to love amazon returns! Great videos man, thanks.
@DerbyCityRC yessir. I'm loving this Terminator, definitely had a smile on my face running it the last couple days. Got the kiddo a 16889 and we are both having a blast. Picked up a maverick quantum flux mt 1st and it's fun, but the Terminator just hit that sweet spot for me. I have an old tt01 I built probably 13 years ago so it's my only frame of reference. I think the controller on the 7a may have been what turned me off a bit.
Hey man, I absolutely love your channel. You are the reason my son and I have 5 Hbx cars today and absolutely love them. Also ordered the rlaarlo. I'm curious how the big upgrade tyres you have on your 2995 would do on the terminator. What do you think? Worth a try? Maybe you could test that. I also have them on my 2996a and they are really awesome. Keep up the good work, dude. 👌🏻
Awesome man, thanks! I think you’ll love the terminator! I may try those tires, but probably will need to do the motor upgrade first, which is in the plans! Thanks again!!
Hey, thanks for your reply. So you think the small motor won't handle the tyres well? You only plan upgrading the motor or also the ESC? Whatever you do with the terminator... Upload a video about it please! 😎 And try those awesome wheels. 👍🏻
It was tough for me to decide between these two trucks but went with the OT. I was very impressed with its performance out of the box, on batt pack #10 a rear knuckle gave up, now waiting for upgrade parts from Rlaarlo. Parts shipped from China next day, should take 7-10 days total. Maybe for prime day I'll get the HBX to have a backup :)
Love it. Can't wait for my carbon to come. HBX is still top notch for budget cars, but Rlaarlo just set a new bar! As always, thanks for the videos. Such a major help with purchases.
for 200€ you can built a bigger and more powerful rc car, maybe not as durable, but which you can bash. there is the vrx racing cobra chassis kit, the remohobby hq727 chassis kit (exactly like atraxxas slash), the hsp brontosaurus kit, the zdracing dbx10 rtr (for 220€)
Finally took out my new 2997a today The body cracked on the first flip, which is a bit silly, and the rear shocks are pretty slappy, so prob underfilled or underweight. Otherwise, digging it.
Yup definitely have glass like bodies, which stinks. In the video you saw this morning, I used these shocks for that HyperGo build and put 80wt fluid in them. Could try that!
The hbx has longer wheelbase..plus for some reason the center diff slipped alot despite what u do to it...I have one..I put thick fluid in center and rear diff...it will do wheelie on 3s now...ohhh..also put a bit bigger tires on it😊
Rlaarlo was $240 shipped with no ship date in sight, HBX 2997a was $165 delivered in under a week to Hawaii. $75 difference, and the cheaper one is actually available.
Yes. Shipping from China definitely takes longer and they fumbled the preorder process pretty badly. But both should be available on Amazon now or soon so hopefully that won’t be an issue. Some places don’t have access to this HBX model at all or shipping is very high. To your point, that quick shipping is definitely valuable!
@@DerbyCityRC been playing with the 2997a for a week, tons of fun and plenty fast for me with the 2s, just wish it had more room for a longer lasting battery. Got a deerc 9206e for my 4 year old as well, my 11 year old niece promptly sent it down a storm drain after using it for 5 minutes (and being warned about the storm drain lol 🤦♂️)
My Rlaarlo sucks big time, and I only had it for a couple of months and didn't put it through your testing which is excellent well make video probably the best review video out there kudos. If I had to by my Omni over again I wouldn't its fast but runs crooked the motor shuts of when it feels like it and parts have fallen off of it anyway thanks for you video's I enjoy all of them you gots talent thats for sure, cheers.
I’m sorry to hear about your Omni 🤕. Are you gonna fix it up? Sounds like something must have been defective. I appreciate the comments on my videos. Thanks man!
Great entertainment as always, Evan! Bit of a bummer with the HBX, lots of issues, I guess the Terminator didn't get terminated as I thought this time... I'm looking forward to spring, maybe finally sometime maybe get my version of the HBX out for a run...
My esc burned out playing in snow on my 2997a. Motor seemed fine but i swapped it with a 3650 4300kv motor and 45a esc due to bullet connectors being different sizes.
Ya seems like “splash proof” is all it’s good for. Definitely not a good esc to get too wet 😢 this car takes upgrades very well! You like it with your new combo?
The Terminator is as far beyond the 2997A as the 2997A is beyond a Newbright RC. I own both. The Brakes on the Term are Phenomenal while on the 2997A hardly even work. Love the 7A but if i had to do it again I would get 2 Terminators. I have the Carbon version btw.
Ya I know what you mean. There’s alot of pluses on the term over the 2997a. Try adjusting the throttle trim for the brakes as mine I recall working pretty well, but ya definitely not as good as the Omni. The 7a is still an excellent upgrade platform. I did a video on that a few weeks ago and it’s excellent.
Good old danchee ran it over I bought that the ridge rock cuz I had to have the upgraded brother then they have to come out with a combo of both for the steering options and metal upgrades
Other than 3s is there much difference between the 2996a and the 2997a? Would it make more sense to upgrade the esc to run 3s on the 2996a. Seems I remember some dude on RU-vid tried 3s in the 2996a and it didn't go so great. 😂
Who was it that tried 3s on the 2996a? 🤣🤣🤣 oh ya… So yes that should work perfectly. Same motor, just do yourself a favor and get a 60 amp. A good 45 would work but 60 would be better!
Ive got the am-d12 and i like it a lot. The Terminator is very tempting but man..those gears sound ROUGH.. still a good sub 200 car though. If i had an excuse to get one..like you, who will profit from the purchase, then of course.. keeping my current fleet going is hard enough.. without adding the Terminator..which requires its own parts, which most likely are not fully compatible with 12 scale
The AM-D12 is a good car too but doesn’t quite compare. They really did good on this one. The gears don’t sound bad at all. Could be the way the camera picks it up? Loud yes because they’re metal but very smooth.
Amazing comparison! I think I would give it to the Rlaarlo too based on your review but isn't there a pretty big price difference? The HBX typically goes for $165 and at times $150 but what price is the Rlaarlo typically at ($200)? Granted, a 3s LIPO and charger would add say $30 if you went with a 3s USB charger for the HBX. I am not sure what kind of charger the Rlaarlo comes with? But it seems that Rlaarlo is just much more substantial so it is worth a premium... hmmm, if my numbers above are right it seems the Rlaarlo is at least as good of a value if not better. I have my HBX up to 60 mph on the stock LIPOs (in series) and the stock motor on a 120A ESC. I would love to see you slap a 120A ESC in both and see how they handle 4s power compared to each other!
Thanks man! Ya that rlaarlo is currently $200 making it, in my opinion, a similar or better value like you said. Actually I forgot to mention, the rlaarlo doesn’t come with a charger at all lol. So weird. I don’t know if I’ll go 4s, but a high quality 3s system would be plenty! Yes I’m going to watch your 60mph video just haven’t yet!
@@DerbyCityRC No worries, you may also enjoy the 65 mph one.... it was great until the motor ceased up and took at the pinion and spur gear!!!!! The inside of the motor was comical when I took it apart!
@BriansRCStuff lol I knew you messed it up lol. I think I saw the thumbnail or you posting about it. Literally was gonna watch it last night but I got this video done around 2AM 😂 I’ll be watching tonight for sure!! 😃 The whole series! Lol
@@DerbyCityRC thanks for the interest. I have a lot of videos to catch up with on your channel! I just haven’t been watching many RC videos… I spend so much time making content. It’s hard to keep up with all the good content out there! Good to catch up with you!
Have you tried different oil in the shocks the hbx 2996/7 come with? I put 70wt in the 2997a, but didn't make as much difference as I thought. I might try 2500 diff fluid, or a mix of the two
Man I love your videos. 😂. You’re a funny dude. Hey for that body try painters mesh tape and shoe glue. Awesome video. I ordered the Rlaarlo yesterday.
Thanks!! 🤣 Yes I need to reinforce more bodies. I’ve done it a few times, but I don’t want to do it for a review because it can hide weaknesses. You’ll love the rlaarlo!!
I really need to get my xs back out. It’s way faster than these two, but it handles like a garbage can. I want to try some better tires on it soon. So I don’t really know yet. Good question though as they’re in the same class I’d say.
How would you feel the way it drives and handles between the rlaarlo vs the TEAM ASSO MT10? And speed wise? You think it would be comparable in the suspension too?
They drive and handle pretty similarly really. Rival wins on speed and size. Suspension pretty comparable I’d say, maybe even tipped towards the rlaarlo in suspension especially being that it’s super tunable.
I show it in my actual Omni review video. It’s in there if you haven’t seen it. Not really instructional, but it may help. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1rPEqOk0n74.htmlsi=CSv_bAs_j0TrrK-U
@@DerbyCityRC I urge you to try it. I don’t do wltoys either and i feel they have been over taken by HBX/Haibox, but I challenge any buggy to drive this well and be this durable at 12th scale. Also 2200 3s lasted 34-40 mins of being spanked hard. I have been thinking about upgrades for it, but quite frankly I would be wasting time and money, it’s that good out of the box.
The hbx is still a good car, but yes the rlaarlo is superior. Actually this car had the bar set in this class (imo), until now!! I love when the bar gets raised!!
Well they have actually had a $35 coupon on Amazon for the hbx for like 3 months lol went even cheaper for a few days. It’s definitely worth those prices I think, but the Rlaarlo is still a better car.
Hey Evan, psyched for the next video to come out, whatever it may be. I just bought and then traded a Redcat Rampage XT two-stroke 1/5th scale truck that was literally brand new. I got the truck so cheap for what it was, had a terrible time starting and tuning it, it never worked for more than 3 mins so I traded with a guy for an Outcast 6S which is what I wanted all along and couldn't afford. Anyhow, I noticed that Redcat put out a brand new 1/5th Electric called the Vigilante. I haven't been the biggest Redcat fan but this one might be worth a look and so I am asking (begging) that you review this one for us. I think the 1/5 scale would be such a cool shake up from your regular stuff and this one is red hot new. I would really love to see how it holds up to your technics. Thanks!!
Not sure of the exact measurement right now, but almost definitely too tall for the H14BM. Just uploaded a video yesterday putting them on that HBX 2997a and it lifts it way up. I don’t think the control arms or axles will be able to take that angle. If you widen your H14BM like I did, then you could lol
@feverexplosion1968 shocks alone I have not tried any. The arms on that truck just don’t have much sway in them. Too short. The best thing I ever did to mine was this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HE4qzl-nBao.htmlsi=Yy5yacmoXgaFlMih It’s a bit involved, but it may even just give you an idea of what might help.
Would love to see you review the newer rlaarlo brushless monster truck that looks kraton ish. I bought one thinking it was the omni lol and love it very happy mistake 😂
Haha, nice! Lol So I reviewed the older version of that truck. The brushed one. It’s probably close to two years old. Here it is if you want to see it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yud3FHJpua8.htmlsi=EtW_-nwVmXNVWvjr Not really sure if there are other differences or not.
They’re pretty similar, just the mt10 is bigger. Mt10 might be a little more durable but it definitely still breaks and has weaker metal components. It’s cool that rlaarlo also offers their own upgrades.
@@DerbyCityRC thanks for your response. I'm looking for a replacement for my hypergo 14210 which handles super bad (even after some minor upgrades). I've seen your upgrade video on the hypergo but I don't think I can bring myself to spend another penny on that piece of garbage.
Is it possible to turn down the power on it? Cause I'm thinking of getting either this or an Arrma Gorgon for my 7 year old. What do you guys think. Gorgon is about 40 dollars cheaper than alu terminator.
Yes the terminator can be turned down to practically a crawl. The 2997a cannot. I don’t have a Gorgon. It looks cool, but I believe my style would lead me towards wanting the terminator over the Gorgon.
Cool to see you bring out the JJRC q130a still rocking my q130a but im about tired of it. The front knuckles are a massive weak point on it. Im trying to find a once piece set of front knuckles for it may just take the motor and ESC out and put it in my sons brushed truck and get my self some better.
That was actually my friend’s brushed q130, but we love ours! In fact, the ONLY thing we’ve ever broken on it with tons of abuse is one of the front knuckles. Did you know there are metal ones available for it?
@ECGxSilvernexon dang. Hmmm. I haven’t had that happen yet. Maybe when you get a new one, put some super glue on the threads first and tighten it back up real fast. Not too much or it will stop you from being able to tighten all the way. Those ball joints unscrew with an allen key if I remember right.
I couldn’t help but notice you have the mjx hyper go tires on that hbx 16889 in the background. How did they work on there and are they smaller than the tires from the 903?
So that’s my HBX Frankenstein build. It’s a hybrid of a few different HBX cars basically making it a 1/14 scale but has the width of a 1/12 scale. Built it almost a year ago if you never saw that, but I’m working on a video giving it more power and a better servo (hopefully). I think they’re slightly taller than the 903 wheels. So far I like it but haven’t been able to run them much yet.
The Frankenstein build was awesome. I have a stock 16889 with the 903 tires on it. It wants to flip backwards way too quick for my son to handle. Any chance u can measure the height of the MJX wheel u have on there? The 903 is 3.77 in. tall. The MJX look shorter than that. Thanks
Hello, always good videos with good advice for affordable rc You are a fan of rc with 3 differentials, a fan of the fc610, the HBX 2996a, the mt10, now the terminator If I understand correctly the terminator is now the best compromise, but is the mt10 still worth adding a ticket to have the top?
Thank you for the answer @DerbyCityRC I didn't want to miss the "launch promotion" on the Terminator so I ordered the Carbon yesterday, it still makes a lot of difference with the mt10
Great video! I am looking to get into the hobby. What would you recommend as a first truck? I am considering the omni terminator, arrma granite and rival mt10. What do you think would be the best all around experience? Or would you recommend another truck?
All of those are great options. The Omni is almost a perfect truck for its class, and the other two you mentioned are pretty awesome as well. Granite would be the biggest and the fastest, then the rival, then the Omni. The granite can be turned down to 50% power while you learn if you need it, and the other two can be turned down to almost a crawl. The HBX in this video is still a great option, especially being its only $165 with the coupon on Amazon, but it would be my least favorite out of all the options you mentioned. If you haven’t seen it, I actually have a comparison video between the rival and the granite from about a year ago that would help if you haven’t seen it. Here it is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iCBEA0wPSLo.htmlsi=hgVg9ScqNCyuIMU9
The Terminator is new, and Rlaarlo is slow in shipping them out, I've ordered one 3 weeks ago and just got an email that it's shipped, will probably be a couple more weeks. You have been warned!
Yes they’re a newer company, maybe 2 years now. The Omni is awesome and while the shipping times are pretty standard for getting goods from China, they overpromised which is the main issue lol. It’s worth the wait if that’s the size and class of truck you want.
What's you ultimate dream truck? Buy the blue Arrma Gorgon for $139 and a couple Amazon 2s 5000 + or - mah batteries for $20- $25. Learn to drive by trying to break the Gorgon. (You can't) All that time save money for your dream truck. If you get bored with the Gorgon get a Amazon 3s esc/ motor combo and a dumbo rc tx/rx combo and upgrade it until rest of money is saved. It'll ultimately be easier to buy your dream/ most expensive rig first. You'll spend more working your way up than just jumping in with both feet. After you've dropped a grand or more on a truck is easier to spend $500 on another. There will be more, lol
