I did a report on the Lusitania in 8th-grade, nearly 60 years ago, and hadn't given it much thought since. But a minute into the video the date, May 7, 1915, popped into my mind ...
I can actually believe that! Remember in history, RMS LUSITANIA was listing on her starboard side after the two explosions caused serious damage in her forward hull and when the sea surface was reaching up towards the Boat Deck, only 6 lifeboats were successfully launched, some lifeboats got damaged from falling down into the sea and few lifeboats got capsized while they floated away from the mother ship LUSITANIA. It was very hard for the crew to launch away all 48 lifeboats from the sinking of LUSITANIA, but I seriously wish all of the 48 lifeboats were successfully launched without 18 minutes of sinking.
Look but don't touch, that's my view, both here and with the Titnic etc. Every aspect of both ships is known, regarding construction/trim/fittings etc so I really don't see any need to raise/plunder anything from either wreck. Let it and those who died rest in peace.
@@randompolishguy6476the most probable ocean liner raise would be Britannic considering how intact she is as well as how shallow she sank. Apart from her bow getting broken when she hit the bottom, and her funnels getting torn off, she’s in one piece. But she now serves a new purpose as an artificial reef, now harboring way more life than she ever did above the water. But I do agree in letting the ships be. They are war graves and serve new purposes now as reefs. It’d be probably cheaper to just rebuild them too.
Why can't they take pieces of her and have the world see her beauty and tell the story of her demise. The people on that ship had know idea that's German shipd would destroy her and over 1000 people died and Some 700 were saved. This story should be told like the Titanic.
Nothing would be left to see inside the Lusitania….nothing. All the beauty in carved wood and decorative plaster and all interior finery would’ve been eaten up by plank tin with in the first decade of having been under water. Also, the steel and iron posts and beams are completely untrustworthy. It all appears that it is all fattening out to nothing in time. Dishes, cutlery, and bronze elements are all within reach. It was indeed an exquisite ship…yacht-like even… You might enjoy the the Canadian Liner set of ships builded in the 1920’s and interior design by White*Alom. The New Britain and the New Ireland.
They were warned by Germany in the Washington post to travel at your own risk to a war torn area because of U- boats ( 20) were in the area . RIP to all those 1198/1960 who perished on that cold May Day in 1915 . ❤️🙏🏼
In 1915, no-one thought Germany (or any nation) would deliberately sink an ocean liner. Particularly not one still painted in civilian colours (troopships were painted in camouflage paint).
@@allewis4008 I’m pretty sure the german military had no idea that Lusitania had any weaponry or ammunition on board, even if they did it was still a deliberate act of terrorism on civilian lives because the ocean liner was technically not operating as a warship at the time. If the german military did know that Lusitania was shipping military supplies I can see why they would want to take down the ship but i can’t help but think whoever made the final decision to fire the missiles was not the smartest tool in the shed, because they should’ve known how the public and military in America/Britain would take it
Let those that be entombed in the Lusitania rest in peace , do not turn it into a circus as with the Titanic...as well as those lost on the Indianapolis..let their story be told through books/history.
Both RMS TITANIC and RMS LUSITANIA share a place together in the same ocean where they both sunk but at different locations! Don't forget both ships and their passengers and crew from 1,500 and 1,200 lost souls have all suffered the same fate. R.I.P. 🚢TITANIC🚢LUSITANIA
Very haunting music to accompany the footage. Actually teared up watching. 😢 Thank you for providing photo references from the Lusitania with the images of the wreck at the bottom. Have there been very many artifacts ie. dishes, bottles or ship parts brought up from the wreck, as with the Titanic? If so, have they been preserved and on display anywhere? 🤔
It is very emotional. We didn't recover anything from the wreck as our licence didn't permit. I'm not sure how much as been retrieved and preserved to date.
@@ohlawdy6855 How? i thought it was a "protected site" was the bell ever retrieved? and if so, where is it located? uk or usa? just taken a piece of the hull even "hand size" would sell A LOT
I would, even though "it's a protected site" as they say.. fuck that The bell was recovered (i've seen it) somewhere in manchester now (was in liverpool)
Great video. I have two questions, if I may; 1. Do you have to obtain special permission to dive on the wreck? 2. Does the Irish navy maintain a regular patrol around the wreck site to prevent looting? Thank you very much.
@@kirandhakne1768 Ok, thank you very much for the information. But does the Irish navy keep an eye on anyone around the wreck? I read somewhere that they do.
bruh I don't think theres anything left in there to raise other than a few rusted metal sheets, couple of porthole windows and some furniture pieces. The ship is completely gone bro.
Lusitania is almost completely collapsed so they were outside the ship. The interiors are mostly scattered on the seabed where the superstructure fell apart.
No mention of the war supplies loaded onto the ship . Like the thousands of rounds of .303 British ammo ? . We are partly responsible for the loss of every life on this ship . Using a passenger liner to smuggle war supplies means this ship was not neutral . Sad but true .
I spoke to a British navy diver once who dived the lusitania who said there were detonators scattered on the sea floor Lusitania sank in 18 minutes after being torpedoed
Not only rifle cartridges aby shells, detonators, aluminum powder and Canadian troops. Churchill and Fisher were actually quite pleased with the disaster, as they wanted President Wilson to declare war on Germany. Had the USA stayed out, WW2 would never had happened.
No chance she's in too badly damaged to be raised in my opinion she's in worse shape than the Titanic the strong currents and her laying on her side don't help
