In this video I take my Caterham Academy car for one final drive on the road before it receives it's upgrades ready for my season of motorsport with Caterham Graduates Sigma 135 class. Find out what it's like to drive a road legal race car and is 125bhp enough for having fun on the road?
About my RU-vid channel:
I started this channel in 2020 to follow my first season of motorsport, Caterham Academy. My story continues for 2021 as I compete in Caterham Graduates Trophy Series. Also, during the year I will be support Sporting Bears who raise money for children's charities, so will look forward to bringing you content from exciting events.
Please do get in touch if you have any questions or comments, it really is fantastic to hear from you. I'm also amazed with how generous drivers with experience our with sharing their knowledge. As I am learning, I really appreciated your thoughts, comments and hearing your top tips (and so will the other RU-vid viewers on this channel).
Thank you to my sponsor SOAR Electric Karting

Great review. I’ve got an ex-Academy car that’s been very much converted to road spec (carpets, leather, heater etc) but your video totally nails how much fun these are on the road and the sheer joy of being able to regularly give it full beans without doing stupid speeds. Thanks for making the video!

You make some nice videos and this is no exception. And I love your enthusiasm which I share too. I've owned many Ferrari, Porsche and GTRs but as soon as I test drove a Caterham a couple of months ago I realised what I'd been missing. So I bought one immediately and have loved every second driving it. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Mike for taking the time to comment, much appreciated 🙏 Now, you have owned many cars I would love to even test drive!…I’m pleased you love the Caterham, a wheel, 3 pedals and a gear stick! Enjoy, thanks Rob 👍

You are getting so good at this, Rob. Well done. There are many serious RU-vidrs who do not present as well as you have in this video.

Epic video. A great perspective of enjoying a car. It proves you don't need all the power in the world to have fun and still be quick.

I’m loving these videos. I just ordered a Mitsuoka Zero1 and watching these excites me for when I get to drive it. Caterhams are like unicorns in the USA, and even more so for ordering parts.

Hi, I just looked up the Zero 1 - what a fab car! That will be loads of fun and I bet you don't see many of them in the USA either! Thank you for following my channel. Cheers, Rob

So glad you said that about the tyres! I was worried about them having just signed up for academy. I'm used to the softer super sticky race compound zzr's for trackdays in my r400, do have some zzs's but consider those ones to be slippery/fun/road tyres ... so I'm thinking academy treaded tyres, yikes! 😱😳😅. But didn't wanna go straight to roadsport & miss all the learning, altho the tyres made me consider that tbh

Hi - thanks for following!.....and I'll look forward to following you next year, you are going to have the most amazing year ever!!! The Avon Academy Control tyre is really something brilliant. See you in the paddock, cheers Rob

Great vid Rob, must admit I agree with you regarding power on the Road, I went from a "K" to a Duratec with over 200 and its not as enjoyable on the road. Keep up the good work and look forward to seeing you race when the season starts.

I'm the same - I used to get a lot of speeding tickets - kept my lawyer busy. Since I started racing - none. I just don't care about speed on the public road any more. I still like the skill of driving - dealing with traffic and so on. But raw speed - nah, boring.

I have just watched your latest race here on RU-vid and I would encourage others to do the same, great racing and an incredible circuit in USA!

Hi, could you explain how you made your seat? Is there something underneath or is it the pure foam seat? I'm looking forward to your 2021 season ...
@roboladland
@roboladland 3 года назад
Hi, it's made from 2 part builder's foam, formed in a strong survival bag and then covered in tape. I will need to make a new one for this season, so will create a how to video! Thanks for following! Cheers, Rob. Here's a link to the foam I used: www.cfsnet.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000002.pl?WD=foam&PN=2%2DPart%2DPolyurethane%2DFoam%2DLiquid%2D5kg%2Dpack%2DN2PSTD_005%2Ehtml#SID=415

Same views as Captain Slow James May, must be an age related thing, I'd rather have all the power & not use it all the time rather than one that any chipped Corsa boys will stay with from the lights

Wearing race harness on the road, is that not dangerous on collision?
@roboladland
@roboladland 9 месяцев назад
Don’t see why? It would restrain you much better than a 3 point, stop submarining. I guess that’s why they are worn on a race track rather than a 3 point! I think you’ll find it’s just the comfort and convenience of a 3 point why it’s chosen for road cars and that a 5 or 6 point harness would be safer. I’m not expert, but would be keen to see what others think who read this conversation. Thanks, Rob

@@roboladland thought a HANS device is needed with harness?
@roboladland
@roboladland 9 месяцев назад
@@mannysingh6618 no, not at all. What is true is that a has device needs to be correctly restrained by a harness 👍
