👩🏼🎓From Baku with hope🇦🇿. Omar Al Braiki, Deputy Chief Negotiator for COP28, delivered keynote remarks to the group of Least Developed Countries, where he highlighted the importance of inclusion in delivering climate action, highlighting the needs and circumstances of the most vulnerable, including the LDCs, and the importance of implementing the UAE Consensus. The meeting, Chaired by Malawi, highlighted the strategic priorities of the group on the Road to Baku and beyond.
Cop events are significant since it's not only about discussions about how to prevent Climate change, but also putting those into action worldwide. 🌐 Changes need to be done or we are going to face irrevocable consequences..💚🌏💚
This is just a networking event for the elites. Nothing ever comes from these events that makes any difference. They still think EV's are gonna reduce emissions but in reality they will only make it worse for the foreseeable future. Building EV factories, mining, and most significantly of all upgrading the entire power grid that took decades to build from the top down. The EV mandate will also put innovation on the backburner when it should be the main focus because current battery tech isn't sustainable. There should be a focus on 1 thing and that's upgrading the power grid by installing solar on homes and businesses. This makes the grid stronger from the bottom up while reducing emissions at the same time. Rolling blackouts will be a thing of the past in a few more years.
@@derekgrey3927I agree that installing solar ☀️ panels does offer a path toward greener energy, but there are practical limitations. 😔 One issue is efficiency - solar panels typically convert only around 15-20% of the sunlight they receive into electricity, and their performance decreases with shading, clouds ☁️, or poor positioning. This makes it hard to rely entirely on solar☀️ power for all energy needs, especially in homes with high electricity consumption. And the more technological revolution 🖥💻📱we have, the more energy is needed. ⚡️ Another barrier is installation cost. 💰While prices for solar technology have decreased, setting up a system still requires a significant amount of money, especially if you also need a battery🔋 for saving the energy collected during the daylight.🌄 For apartments🏢, the problem is more complex - there's limited roof space, and structural concerns can arise from the added weight of panels. In Azerbaijan🇦🇿, the move toward renewable ♻️ energy started even before COP29. We already use hydro 💧🌊 energy from the Mingachevir plant and have built wind🌀 farms both onshore 🏖and offshore🌊. COP meetings have helped countries take more steps toward green♻️ energy, but fully switching takes a lot of time⏳️, money, and effort. And there is very little time left ⌛️to act since we need to keep global warming below📉 1.5°C to avoid serious climate problems.🌡 COP's main purpose is to assess progress in dealing with climate change and set international 🌐 agreements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 🏭🚗💨 and promote sustainability. Gas emissions were proven to be the main issue that causes climate change. And in order to reduce it, we need to find alternatives. EVs play an important role in the transition. EVs are easier to adopt since they run on electricity, which can be powered by renewable ♻️ energy⚡️as well. The energy that we get from solar panels, wind 🌀 turbines, and hydro🌊 plants can and are converted into electricity.⚡️♻️⚡️ Even though most EVs today charge using non-green energy, once we switch fully to renewables, they’ll fit perfectly into a green energy system.👍🏻 Fuel-powered cars can’t do the same - they can’t just switch to green energy without major changes. Also, COP29 in Baku is open to everyone👥️, not just world leaders. You can buy a ticket 🎟 and join the Green 💚 Zone at the Baku Stadium 🏟 to share ideas. If you have innovative ideas 💡 on making solar panels more affordable or efficient, this is a great place to be heard! 😊💚
👩🏼🎓We are still nowhere near the scale and pace of emission reductions required to put us on track toward a 1.5 degrees Celsius world. -UN Climate Change chief Simon Stiell.
*👩🏼🎓COP28 was more than a meeting of minds. It was a gathering of diverse voices, coming together to achieve what once seemed impossible, to set the world on a clear path to keep 1.5°C within reach and to protect those impacted by climate change and to leave no one behind!*
👩🏼🎓Last year, I said, Houston, we have a problem. And today, I am pleased to say that in Dubai at COP28, this industry showed that they are essential to the solution and can actually drive it. -At CERAWeek, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber reiterated that the oil and gas sector is a critical player capable of stepping up to the climate challenge. The COP28 President encouraged all countries to adopt ambitious economy-wide Nationally Determined Contributions that cover all greenhouse gases, if the world is going to meet its climate and development goals.
By participating in COP29, we are making important progress in fighting climate change. At this event, we will show our leadership in sustainable development and protecting the environment. Long live Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 #COP29 #COP29AZERBAIJAN
👩🏼🎓In recognition of delivering the historic UAE Consensus as COP28 President, Dr Sultan Al Jaber has been awarded the ‘Leadership Award for Building Global Consensus towards a Sustainable Energy Future’ at the annual CERAWeek Energy Conference in Texas. The award was presented by Daniel Yergin, Vice-Chairman of S&P Global and CERAWeek conference chair.
👩🏼🎓During his acceptance speech, Dr. Al Jaber reiterated that multilateralism, inclusivity, and the spirit of partnership were instrumental to achieving the UAE Consensus - urging CERAWeek attendees to keep this spirit alive and build on the momentum achieved at COP28.
👩🏼🎓The UAE Consensus that emerged from Dubai outlined pathways for governments and industries to work together to achieve a historic transformation of the world’s energy systems, including a roadmap for decarbonized growth.
👩🏼🎓The UAE Consensus has emerged as a roadmap for countries and the private sector as it delivered a series of firsts, including a commitment from countries to a responsible and orderly transition away from fossil fuels, and targets to triple global renewable energy capacity, and double energy efficiency by 2030. Industries, including oil and gas, must follow the new path set by the UAE Consensus to keep 1.5°C within reach.
👩🏼🎓IRENA’s latest Renewable Capacity Statistics report highlights that 2023 saw the largest increase in renewable energy capacity to date - with the addition of 473 GW of renewables. Despite this record growth, more needs to be done to accelerate progress to triple renewables by 2030 in line with the targets of the UAE Consensus.
