Welcome and join me here on the next part of my summer journey as we travel from Pskov to Nevel and my home village of Klyastitsa (klya-stit-sa) near the Belarusian border. The further from the cities we go the further back in we will go also. And you will see a Russia that no one sees in movies, Saint Petersburg, or Moscow but is still authentically Russia.

Thank you for this, Natasha. Very interesting and very beautiful. 'Dry grass'? I think you mean what we call 'hay'? (CEHO). That's an easy word to type, even using the English keyboard. I can read and write Russian, but it's a hassle to change keyboards. Excuse my laziness. It's late at night here. Maybe one morning, when I am bright and awake, I will send you a comment in Russian! Thank you again. I love these unpretentious visits to Russian villages. They are more interesting than Moscow or St P'burg, at least to me they are.

Pardon me, I wish i could post without having to; 'reply' to another viewers thread. Strange there was no place to post ~ shakes head ~ but for sure the Maps you share are exponentially important. A few more seconds on them just adds to the importance of your no holds barred tour of Russia. I see bits and pieces on Instagram ~ and tonight after b-day dinner at my daughters house i promise myself to take in Natasha's Russia on you-tube ~ now back to Pskov. Having enjoyed St Petersburg as the #1 thrill of a life time and Moscou too. Viva Russia.

difference of buildings, is more alike in USA, wood as material, in France it's stone or brick- btw my grandfac there (father side) wis a mason, built his hous himself. my grandmother was a teacher, and my father went ingeneer, there was social mobility upwards then, growth "30 glorious years after the war.. but my father saw the war as a kid.... was also drafterd during algerian war, not pleasant.. but there was no unemployment then"

russian toilets remind me some I saw outside in henin lietard in mining basin north france, actually much of equipment you found in counryside may seeml similar, I wonder how it is in rural area in US, but, with national specificities, wouldn't be surprised if it was not comparable. my grandfather also had a big garden, he grew lots of things, I am not even sure I know the name in inglish, but he had lots of vegetables, fruits (apples, pears, mirabels, cherries, quetshes, strawberries, other berries, apples, lots of salads "asperges" "cassis" "groseilles", cuncumbers, potatoes, carrots, had some rabbits (poor rabbits, I was a stupid child once) and hens ..know what, countryside life ahas real similarities. but of course, in France distance are wayyy smaller. we 're a concentrated country comparatively, even in countryside. it's not hong kong but everything has benen tamed, changed by man, even woods, forests, almost all except in mountai,ns has been cut and planted at some point, sort of ...not many savage areas, bigger density...

lots to see, so many remarks ...wow, nevel is real close to bielorussia, so far from petersburg - too bad for the bag - glad to see your parents again - shop modernized, yes, I've known soviet times - guess economic collapse must have been worse - watched it on Tv, godds were there, money wasn't heartbreking - ouch, the roads ...yes, had to see that. maintenance begins to be a problem in west, because of tighter and tighter budgets (big state expanses means less private porofit for stock owners, taxes .. butr roads aren't to that point, except if abandoned small ones in remote parts where nobody ever comes of course) Very very interesting thanks Natasha

Thank you for this My husband's grandmother was from here -- Augusta Rove, b. 1884. She immigrated to NYC with her husband, David Grebow, who was from Vitsyebsk, Vitebsk, Belarus,, but sailed to the U.S. from Hamburg, Germany. They were Jewish. His son (my husband's father) married an Irish Catholic(he met when she was working behind the counter in a bakery when neither had any money) . The son (Leon David Grebow) became an inventor. My husband was born on Fifth Avenue, across from Central Park and graduated from Harvard -- .so the American dream lives. From immigrant Russian Jewish tailor to inventor living on Fifth Avenue with servants and nannies and chauffered limos n 1 generation.

Lol! Driving from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok is about 10,000 km. That's about 1/4 of the way around the world. That would be like driving from the equator to the north pole. That's pretty big.
