Every father is imperfect, compared to Mick in the film my father was evil. Funny that his brother died a year ago and he didn't want to go in the funeral and my aunt said he was afraid to go back to where his mother was buried because he used to beat her and his father up when he was drunk and he was overcome with grief cos she died suddenly. He's father was a psycho like him. Just your regular Irish family lol. Thank god I only fell for a few sluts before getting sense and have no pesky kids
Yeah I know how you feel, I too have a nine year old son. They say there is nothing like the love of a mother for a child but heck we are not far behind. Magical blessings to you and your son . Perhaps in another life your roles will be reversed. There are more things in heaven and Earth that can be dreamt of in your philosophy said a wise metaphysician. Travel well.... I can't stop listening to this music, there is something there that is timeless ,I think its the signature of the essence. Thomas Newmann is connected with it at some level.
To summarize popular thought-controlling media reviews of that time: "Not enough women" Look up the old 2002 reviews if you don't believe me. Always think for yourself.
Thomas Newman weaves beautiful soundscapes that makes you look at the big picture, reflect on your failings as a human being, questions the unjusts of our world, makes you cry.
You nailed that one, amigo. Bravo. Such music takes us to our 'Moments' ... the great ones, the not so good ones -- -- and of course, to the 'Moments' that will forever haunt us ... be they of heartache, un-fixable regrets or a love lost. His is music you listen to when you're in need of a good think. But then, one can always find a bright horizon of redemption in a boiling sky of conflict with Thomas Newman's wondrous music. D.A. ps: Colin Watt -- there's a book by the late, great William Goldman called, 'THE COLOR OF LIGHT' and I think you might dig it. Please let me know what you think of it and especially, the last line of the book. You'll understand then as to 'why' you should read it.
This helped me when I was in my darkest days, after I lost my brother❤️ driving around, hoping to see you somewhere, some signs, just something. But you are gone. Love you forever my Brother. God bless❤️
Hi i'am french, i understand you i lost my brother too 8 years ago, i see him all the time in my Dreams, i hope so much there is one heaven to see him after i quit this life on earth, god bless your brother and mine, sorry for my bad english
This is the sound of a man’s heart opening up and realizing his faults and wished things could’ve been different because his heart is truly broken inside
I got it when I bought a Tom Hanks 3 Movie DVD combo, it had The Green Mile, Forrest Gump and Road To Perdition, after watching the other two I decided to give Road To Perdition a try, I must say I was NOT disappointed, a very underrated film imo
'The Road to Perdition is a long and lonely ride, no matter how numerous the passengers...seldom is it a trip made by one's self, but all travel and arrive alone.'
“The road to perdition is a long and lonely ride, no matter how numerous the passengers. Seldom is it a trip made by oneself, but all travel and arrive alone.”
It’s beyond ridiculous that this movie or the score didn’t get what it deserves but anybody with half a brain or a decent heart knows that this movie was uniquely special on so many levels
Well said, almost always one of my first movies to recommend. This is a true sleeper hit, I think if I remember correctly it's release was very close to 9/11 and that had to do with why it didn't get a lot of views.
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams..
The past the present and the future are all progressive and linear moments seen all at once by the mind. Yes - the past is progressive, you only see it the way you have defined it, and that what controls the future. the present is the window of change, and it only passes quickly if you feel out of control. The present can be as long as you want it to be. Tennessee Williams is ascribing humanity from the prospect of linear perceptions, but time is spherical, and cycles, it doesn't go forward or backwards, it expands.
This music is for us boys and girls that have lost our fathers and this beautiful music pulls the emotion out of us and it’s good to experience the feelings and emotions of what we’re afraid to face and yet when we do we feel better because we faced what we couldn’t overcome but did
This movie is about a father doing whatever he can to save his son and he pays the ultimate price in the end. I think any father could relate to that as I think any father (or at least most) would die for their sons and daughters. I know I would. As someone who never really had a positive father figure growing up I will do anything to make sure my son does, this movie is criminally underrated as it shares a message we can all relate to. None of us are perfect but we do our best
When people ask me if Michael Sullivan was a good man, or if there was just no good in him at all, I always give the same answer. I just tell them...he was my father.
My dad and I went through The Recession together. There was an.... undeniable lack of food. And room. We were not chased by assassins because no one cared. Everyone else was broke and hungry too. We argued a lot. But we never begged. I love my father very much and although things are much better now, I never forget the times he lied to me and told me he wasn't hungry so my brother and I could eat. Always those meals he made in the microwave, left them in there for when I came home. Anyway, years later I showed him this film and he smiled. He is 67 now. I hope I won't have to do what he did with my own son. But I will if I have to.
Sounds like your father had children as a teenager 🤔 which recession are you taking about? The great depression was in 1929, surely your referring to the 2008 recession.
Absolutely incredible movie. The first watch was okay; every subsequent watch was fantastic. So much to absorb and so much to appreciate. The acting is incredible, the cinematography is fantastic, and Thomas Newman's score is remarkable.
It’s funny how many great movies take a second viewing to really appreciate their majesty. I think it’s because you know where it’s taking you so you just sit back and enjoy the journey. I sometimes wish real life was like that.
My dad died 4 days ago and I feel his soul specially in this part 10:39. he was the most kind person in my life and I wish I can see him again .. rip 🙏
If you look deep down into this movie it’s about a father reconnecting with his son in the most terrible situations and yet they made it and when all seemed great it was taken And that was the heartbreaking moment that is felt to this day
One of the best films. Totally overlooked. Probably one of Hanks best performances. Everything about this film is tragic with some glimmer of hope. The score pulls at you.
It doesn’t need to get any jury recognitions to win awards!! It’s stay a classic forever! Everything about this movie for a true movie lover is orgasmic! Rarely get to see such subtle art making such an impact!
This soundtrack brings me enormous peace. ❤️ Whenever I talk to someone about cinema, and I immediately remember this masterpiece that is the path to perdition, I have the great pleasure of recommending it, for me it is among the two best films to watch, my wife, when she was alive, already asked me , again this movie. I really hoped he didn't die at the end of the movie.
Just finished watching this for the first time. What a phenomenal movie, I was introduced to Sam Mendes through 1917 and it quickly became one of my favorite historical pieces. Road to Perdition I think is up there on my top historical period dramas. I like a lot of movies, I like a lot of Tom Hanks movies, but this one is different. There was this sort of emotional bond I shared with the Sullivan's struggles in this movie. For the elder in his quest for revenger and the younger for struggling to come to terms with his father and their relationship. The movie had the perfect level of tension and drama and I felt visually arrested in some scenes just like how I was in 1917. Sam Mendes is one of our brightest stars in the director world. Thomas Newman deserves as much credit for creating the atmosphere for this wonderful picture.
This music just absolutely destroys me emotionally because I’m a father that’s less than perfect and I would do anything just like in the movie to keep my child safe. This music is absolutely incredible and it brought emotions out of me that I thought had died
I hope my comment remains here after until I cant no breathe anymore.... And someone read this on the future... This is a powerful movie and my dads favourite.. Shows that a man should really do Take care of his child!
Though my dad and I were never chased by an assassin, this movie really helped me appreciate everything my dad has done and continues to do for me and my family. That ending scene made me cry so much because it really helped me see how far fathers will go to ensure we have a good life.
My Father hurt me beyond measure and yet I loved him. And could never reach the depths of pain that he had to endure growing up in Ireland in the 1940s . His irrelevant words towards church and state ring true today. He wasn’t evil just hurt. He took no pleasure in hurting me and my mother and brothers and my only sister.
This was my first viewing and I was just stunned as well....This is the most beautiful film I ever saw or heard about gangsters!!My grandmother was 16 in 1931. Hope you all are well.
This is my son''s RU-vid photo! I cannot remember my password!! May24, 2020, this is the most beautiful gangster movie I ever saw or heard!!!!I read where the cinematographer won an Oscar for his work, and quite right.I have to say to you, Airborne, I certainly give you a LIKE, a hug and a big kiss from Mom
The sheer amount of emotion this score demands is second to none and one day it will get the Honors it deserves but has never asked for because this is original and beautiful
Consider the greatness of the Newman musical family. Thomas' dad, Alfred, was the head of the 20th Century-Fox music department for two decades. When he ran Fox's music, Alfred watched over the careers of two young composers named John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith. Thomas' brother, David, is also a first class composer. Thomas' uncle, Lionel, ran the Fox music department after Alfred left to go free lance. Thomas' cousin, Randy is the hero of all short people. This is just a stunning piece of music, worthy of being played in any concert hall.
such a benevolent family, this is what life is about, giving, nurturing and protecting, outstanding Newmans ! outstanding, thank you for your talent, music and journeys, all of which are warmly and deeply appreciated
Good morning everyone 🌎, I come here to say that for me it was one of the best films I've ever seen, it's in the top 3, not to mention this super cast of big Hollywood stars❤
This is an excellent movie and very much underrated. The music is great and the cinematography excellent. Excellent acting all around. I look forward to watching it whenever it's on tv
This song brings tears to my eyes each time i hear it,it's such an emotional song,i loved the movie and i really love the theme, seeing the film and listening to the music made me think of my music career of always leaving my sons,my mother and family to leave home and tour the world performing not knowing when i would come home to see them again,it gets lonely leaving sometimes but it's what i chose to do and what i've been doing since i was seventeen now that my parents are no longer here and my sons are grown i'm lonely and only have my music, thank you GOD,Steven Speilberg and Mr.Newman for such a brilliant piece of emotional work sincerely guitarist,Emmett North Jr.
The build up to this song reminds of my acid house raving days, you'd get that one song that would build and build then it would drop...The rest is history!!
This is the closest thing to envisioning my Grandpa Lester Hunter sitting in his old car outside my grandmother's house in the snow drinking whiskey and smoking a cigarette in the 30s. What I perceive to be what their life might have been like. Innocent and wise.
This track and "Twenty Dollars Worth" from the soundtrack Michael Clayton (by James Newton Howard) are so mesmerizing, chilling, and transcendental. Sure path to self-reflection each time. A mix of coping, "feeling lost", regret, solitude, and asking "how do we go from here onwards" imposes itself on my register of emotions.
Dedicado a Mi Padre Luis Gadea Barba.Gracias por enseñarme todos los buenos valores de esta Vida y pasar por ella con la mejor de las actitudes dentro de la lucha diaria. Siempre te Querré !!! Te veo en las estrellas..Se que estás allí mirándome con una sonrisa !!! Salud y Vida Pa'Lante !!! Cheers and Life On !!!
This was such a great movie. Jude Law was the essence of creepy. Paul Newman was the essence of sinister. And Tom Hanks was just a guy who was trapped in some bad decisions he had made and didn't know how to get out of it. All he wanted was his wife and his two boys. I think the scene towards the end, when Hanks takes out Newman and his henchmen, is one of the best in cinematography.
Reportedly Conrad L. Hall has spent ages setting up the lighting and cameras in the rainy scene, but when they all saw the result, realised it was worth the wait.
I know in my heart what this picture and score deserves but it’s the fans that understand the real meaning of what this movie means to us. A trophy means nothing compared to the emotional significance of this I hope people understand that
I wish more people could watch this movie and listen to this amazing score music whatever you want to call it because it totally changed my whole outlook on life. Paul and Tom were so close to being father and son on this movie that’s why it resonated so well with people because it was real
