At the beginning of the video, you can see the storm front (shelf cloud) in the sky that pushed through. It's a cloud line. The freeway tour begins on I-94 near the Wisconsin border towards Chicago, we pass Six Flags in Gurnee, then we split off onto I-294, the Tri-State Tollway. We are outside Chicago city limits in the suburbs (Chicagoland). Enjoy this drive through rain & winds, traffic, and construction!
CHICAGOLAND
The Chicago metropolitan area, also referred to as the Greater Chicago Area and Chicagoland, is the largest metropolitan statistical area in the U.S. state of Illinois, containing the City of Chicago along with its surrounding suburbs and satellite cities. Encompassing 10,286 square mi (28,120 km2), the metropolitan area includes the city of Chicago, its suburbs and hinterland, that span 14 counties across northeast Illinois, northwest Indiana, and southeast Wisconsin. The MSA had a 2020 census population of 9,618,502 and the combined statistical area which spans up to 19 counties had a population of nearly 10 million people. The Chicago area is the third largest metropolitan area in the United States and the fourth largest metropolitan area in North America (after the metro areas of Mexico City, New York City, and Los Angeles) and the largest within the Midwest, and the largest in the Great Lakes megalopolis. Its urban area is one of the forty largest in the world.

I remember when 294 used to only back up by O’Hare during rush hour. Now the whole thing is a parking lot!

As one who grew up in Chicagoland, I-290 (the Eisenhower) is arguably the biggest nightmare drive of all....

I would agree to a point. But this was a nightmare commute also, and you only get to see about 1 hour of a 2.5 hour ordeal. Thanks for watching!

The Ike is where you'll go from a parking lot to 75 mph in the blink of an eye and with no apparent explanation

I lived in the Chicago area for 31 years. I moved to Las Vegas in 2015. This video brought back the driving nightmares that I dealt with so often back there. The traffic, weather problems and construction never ended. I used to get so claustrophobic when I got stuck in traffic. This video made me feel that way again. I do miss living in Illinois (to a certain extent), but I don't miss driving there. Vegas does have some traffic issues, and they are getting worse with so many people moving here, but they are NOTHING compared to Illinois. I enjoyed seeing my old "stomping ground".
