Early this year, I joined the Subway Lottery for the first time without expecting to get it. I was really surprised when I received an email from Recreation Gov that I won the said permit! You could only imagine, there was so much happy dance happened that day!
Last week was when the Subway hike actually happened. I took three days off from work and headed early to Zion National Park on the first day of the road trip. I did not realized until I was already on the road that there's an hour time difference from Arizona and Utah. I have decided only to stop when I need to gas up. I only stopped twice and oh boy, I was tired driving for six and a half hours! Before the day ended, I got a chance to stretch my legs and hike one of the beautiful area in Southern Utah. Red Reef Trail is what I picked from the Red Cliff National Conservation Area. It was only about two miles with glowing red rocks and stunning surroundings! After exploring around, I camped just twelve minutes away from the Subway Trailhead. The next morning, I started heading out to the trail at nine. The parking was almost full when I got there. It was warm but as soon as I descended at the bottom, it got chilly and I already knew that inside the Subway will be much colder. The hike was pretty amazing but exhausting from the climbing up and down of the rocks. It was slow and wore me down at the last mile. But as soon as I saw the entrance of the Subway, my spirit lifted! The water on my feet is freezing and it was definitely cold inside the canyon. I totally bailed my plan on cold plunging in one of the pools! AS every other Subway hikers, I removed my shoes and socks and sun bathed for a little before heading back. At the end of the hike is the hardest part, climbing back up in the middle of the heat. AS soon as I got in the van, I made an iced cold macha and laid on the floor for a bit before driving to Lone Rock Beach. It wasn't a long drive and I actually shredded some time going home for the next day. Lone Rock Beach was a really good choice for staying the night. I feel like every time I camp here, the moon is spectacular! I lit a campfire and enjoyed the evening view of the surrounding. I felt completely rested when I woke up the next day! Until, I got stuck in the sand after a few minutes of driving. I calmed myself down and talked to myself. I was confident that I was going to get myself out of the sand using the recovery board I have but I was going the wrong way so I got myself in worse situation. Thank goodness to Matt and Kristina who happened to be walking their dog to where I was stuck. They got me out of the sand really easy! Matt and Kristina has a RU-vid channel of their own called Clarity Off-Grid. Make sure to give them a follow! I stopped by the unnamed cave right by the Shell gas station at Page. It was a short hike from the gas station and people come and go really fast so I got the cave all to myself when people left. It was a fun three day adventure for sure. I cant wait for the next road trip!

Oh I am so jealous now 😂😂 The Subway has been in my bucket list for some time now. Hopefully water won’t be as cold when I visit 😬 I tried to go to that cave behind the gas station but it looked fenced 🤔

Are you doing it in summer? I think it not as cold in summer. I've seen videos of hikers jumping in the pools. As for the cave behind the gas station, there's an actual parking closer to the trail and there's an opening to hike going to the said cave. Some people go all the way to the top of the rock for higher elevation. I just wanted to see the famous unnamed cave :)

Hey Mary what are those socks called and/or where I can get them? 🤔 I just bit more than I can chew on my last hike and the worst part was taken by my toes rubbing against each other 😖

@@sunkissedmary bought me a pair of those socks and tried them up first wearing them to go to the office. And wore them yesterday going down South Kaibab Trail 🤘, I think they did a great job at reducing the discomfort a long climb down like that can produce. Changed into my regular hiking socks to go back up via Bright Angel 😉

@bobbafett7407 I love these socks. All my socks now are wool, either hiking socks or runners socks. It's a good investment 👌
