I'm currently using Expedition Earth with my 2nd grader and 5th grader. It's fantastic!!! Definitely using Road Trip USA next year! Btw...I think you're a total rockstar! Love your websites, videos, curriculum, etc. I'm kinda a big Erica fan! 😃 Thanks for sharing you talents with the rest of us!
Starting lesson 1 tomorrow! I am so excited! waiting for lots of your ideas to arrive in the my mailbox like the map (2) for the wall and our Encyclopedia! This is exactly what I wanted for another added curriculum for our Geography this year! I am still trying to figure out printing the Travel Log but thank goodness for Staples! I sent the states and capitals for printing as well in card stock. I hope that's a good choice. I wasn't sure if I should laminate. This is all new to me. This is our very first time Homeschooling my grade 5 daughter but thanks to you I have so many wonderful, fun Units for learning! I am grateful for your ideas and your channel I found! Thank you!
Hi Lizzie, I included 7 of the books. You may be able to get them from the library! You can see which ones are included in the sample download. It's linked in the Road Trip USA page in my shop.
I purchased the curriculum and I'm setting it up for my 2019-2020 school year! What is a lapbook and how to do put that together? I see the lapbook activities for the first chunk of lessons and that we need two file folders for each child, but I'm at a loss. Also, do you have a recommendation on how many lessons are completed each week? I see 136 lessons total! Thank you!
Hi! this looks incredible! I have a soon to be 3rd grader and 7th grader. Can I use this for both? They would both love it! also, can this be the sole curriculum for history or geography or used as a supplement? thank you so much!!
Yes, you can use it for both, however it may be a bit easy for your 7th grader. There are reports/quizzes included that you can use as well for your older student to make it a bit more challenging.
Is this set up to do a lesson every day? About how long does it typically take to get through a lesson each day? I have a 3rd & 6th grader, so would starting w/ this be OK or would you still recommend starting w/ Expedition Earth?
Yes, it is set up for 5 lessons per week, but it's really easy to either spread out lessons over 2 years or condense into 4 days it if needed. your 3rd and 6th would be fine with this. I do recommend starting with Expedition Earth first just because it's easier for younger students, a little less writing and memorizing of facts in EE. But since your kids are a little older, you could start with either and be fine :)
Question: would you mind doing a video just going over the Colorado State Curriculum you created? We're in CO too and would love to here a little more about your State curriculum ( if you dont mind) =)
Hi Jennifer, Sure I'll add it to the list. It is a free download though so you're welcome to download it and take a look. It's fairly self explanatory. www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/blog/2013/10/colorado-unit-study.html
We’re planning to use a few of your curriculum this year (RT USA, WGA, & WGC). Love that they come with binder covers & spines. Would you be able to create spines for the Staples Better binder? Those are our most favorite binders due to durability. It would be great to be able to use your spines in them.
Thank you for your videos and your curriculum! I love all of ur stuff you come up with! Would I have to add in a history curriculum as well so is this enough? Also what age do you recommend starting this? Thank you!
NO! The Road Trip USA includes US history with it, so you wouldn't need to add in another one unless you just like to do a lot of history ;) This is recommended for elementary students 1st - 6th grades.
Hi, there is religious information included as part of the history reading as it's part of our history. It is in the "where were you when" series of books. I suppose you can skip the history reading if you don't want that.
We are planning a 15 month road trip across the US and I have (what will be) a second grader. Could I break this up and use what you have as I am in each state? If this wouldn’t be your first pick for our situation, do you have any recommendations on what we could use?
Is there a way to get the animal study separate from the rest for the USA animals? Wanting to do an animals of our country study for science this coming year and these lictures would be a helpful starting point
How did you work this ALL in to the rest of your schedule? I am trying to figure out a good schedule so I can homeschool my 4 children and it is so confusing! It looks like a really great curriculum!
Hi Dawn, in the TM you'll see there are only a few items assigned per day for the Road Trip curriculum. So while it looks like a lot of activities in the video, they are spread out through the week into bite size chunks :) So for example you read a bit, then do an activity or two depending on the day. Each lesson takes about 20-30 min unless it's a recipe or craft day. Those can take longer, and I usually just wait until we're done with the rest of our school for the day, then do those types of activities so we can take our time and enjoy them!
Erica Arndt thank you! Also I was wondering does the curriculum last all year? Would it be considered your history or science since it works on the animals? Or would your expedition earth be considered the science portion? Would you combine the 2 in 1 school year or just 1 per year? Thanks again for all your help! Can't wait till your lesson plan comes out for next school year. I am looking forward to using it for the first time cause we will be starting year round school at the end of jun.
I would start with Expedition Earth for a 5 year old, then move on to Road Trip in first or second grade. There is more memorization and writing in Road Trip and better to do it a bit further down the road :)
Hi! I wouldn't suggest doing Expedition Earth and Road Trip at the same time. They're both full programs and I think it would be too much. I usually suggest starting with Expedition Earth, then moving on to Road Trip USA the following year :)
It has 5 daily lessons per week, but you can combine lessons and do it less times per week, or skip activities you don't want to do. It's fairly flexible and you can adjust it to fit your needs :)
how much does it usually cost to print your curriculum? I love your products but I worry it would be very expensive to print everything. but i don't know, maybe it's not that bad. any idea on the price of printing? thanks!
I really want this curriculum but is this something I print out on my own, or do you send me the book? Does it come with all the materials and books that are shown on your video? How much is it?
+Moe Butler The Road Trip USA and Expedition Earth are both full year curriculum that should be done separately. I normally suggest starting with Expedition Earth, it is a little better for younger kiddos with more fun crafts, recipes, songs, and the like. The Road Trip contains a bit more memorization and handwriting work due to the state symbols, capitals, and major landmarks. So it's a little better to do that the following year when your student is a bit older.
+Barbara Lopez The Road Trip USA and Expedition Earth are both full year curriculum that should be done separately. That said, I would not suggest doing both in the same year. I don't see why not, it's mostly hands on, there is a lot of memorization for state facts, but you can do all of that verbally, and skip the reports and written work.
Hi Erica! Is this a good curriculum for a 7th grader? I would love to get it for my 5th grader but I would also love to use it with my 7th grader as well. I am planning on concentrating on US History next year.
There are 136 lessons, all of the information on what is covered can be found here: store.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=70_73_75&products_id=189
Where do I buy this curriculum? Sorry I'm new to this. I'm going start home schooling my 9 year old girl because we have try gifted school and catholic school in NYC and she still not been challenge or taught enough. Catholic school was a safe and loving environment but curriculum to easy and boring for her. Gifted program Challenged her on some subjects but they did just to much writing , reading and math that she would lose interest. And the environment where the program was was horrible and Violent. I'm tired of having her all day in school and her coming home asking to do work online and watch RU-vid channels for things she like to learn. Finding your channel has help me so much. Thank you
+JadaNmomFUN AG Hi, you can get it from my store here; store.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/ I also have a Homeschooling 101 book in my store you can check out if you need help getting started. Just click on the "books" link on the blue bar navigation at the top.

+Tonja Merrell Hi Tonja, I'm sorry, I don't know why you can't hear them! make sure the speakers on your computer are not muted and are turned up. As well as the video slider bar on RU-vid.
