So I am looking at 2018 M3LR with 47k miles. I think it's a good deal but my concern was the battery warranty going to be gone in 2 years. Did you not worry about that when you placed your order? I'm just curious.

@@oaks123 something I definitely considered when purchasing.. I drive 20-25k miles per year. Figured my warranty time and mileage would run out at a similar time. I bought mine straight from Tesla and got the $4k tax credit and project to save $1500 a year in gas (or more if I use the local free charging station on base).. if the battery dies within two years, warranty has me covered.. if it makes it just beyond the warranty, I have “saved” $7k in tax and gas savings which I would put towards the battery. Also you could prioritize saving for two years to come up with the difference.. just $200 a month would come up with $12k total savings, which I think is what a battery cost now. That’s at least how I justified it to myself. Lol

@@oaks123 I wasn't very worried about it at all because there hasn't seemed to have been very many early battery failures with Model 3's so far. Of course, like with any vehicle, there are some cases of premature failure. But those are far and few between.

If you hold your finger on the seatbelt warning on the back seat graphic it will go away/stop the alerts

I have a 100lb dog in my backseat and changed the settings to "child carseat" so it doesn't require a seatbelt (they have the safety latch system that doesn't have sensors for child carseats).

How much did the backpack weigh? It could think its a newborn baby or someone really light. Using 35kwh is about 1.04 gallons of gasoline, divided by the 128 driven gets 123 miles per gallon equivalent.

It didn’t weigh too much. It had my laptop and some papers in it. That sounds like pretty good gas mileage to me.

The seatbelt system is good actually. You should strap in loose items on seats because you don’t want loose items hitting you in the back of the head or flying through the air when you have a front end accident. People have ended up in hospital that way.

That's a fair point. But I'm just comparing it to my previous vehicles. I just feel the seat detection in at least this generation of Model 3 to be a little too sensitive in my opinion.

@@OfficialElectrifyingInsights Of course, the way to avoid the issue is to put the backpack in the footwell of the back seat instead of on the back seat.

As a person who is considering picking up a used Tesla, I appreciate this video on an older car. I also appreciate your closing commentary on how the trip would've been if you had used your old pre-LFP Standard Range Plus car.

Thanks so much, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I still would recommend staying away from non-LFP Standard Range vehicles. They just don’t have enough range, and don’t charge as well as the LFP cars.

I have a 85k miles 2018 M3 LR. 99.5% is L2 charging. Still on MCU 2.5, and has lifetime premium connectivity. If FSD transfer is still available by the time needing a new M3 LR, will just pay $2k to upgrade from EAP then transfer FSD directly to new car (without paying $1k to upgrade M3 MCU from 2.5 to 3.0) Had Michelin PILOT SPORT AS4 235/45ZR18 98Y XL tires (45k miles before it got too noisy with 4/32 and 6/32 thread) and currently on Continenal ExtremeContact DWS S06 Plus 235/45ZR18XL. 250 mi/kw lifetime average. Don't really track the battery/range health, nothing out of norm. Replaced charging door assembly at 30k miles. Replaced sensor for passenger seat (free) at 56k miles. Replaced 12v battery at 65k miles (4.5 years). Replaced 2 sets of air filter by myself.

How’s the build quality holding up? Squeaks? Rattles?

Surprisingly, there's only one small squeak coming from the passenger door trim. Not sure exactly where it's coming from, but I only hear it on really rough roads. Overall, the car is holding up much better than my previous BMW 328i with similar mileage. There were a ton of rattles and squeaks in my BMW.

Could you please do a charging video with your vehicle I am on the fence about getting an older vehicle because of the charging curve? How long would it usually take to charge up the Tesla to 100% on a supercharger?

Great idea! I'll be sure and do a video about that soon! I've actually never done a 100% charge at a Supercharger because you almost never do that on road trips as it's less efficient to do so. But on a road trip, my stops are usually 10-20 minutes

So I am in the market to buy a used Model 3, possibly from Hertz. Great price, low miles. But I have some questions for you. On this trip, how much did it cost to charge at each stop and the total cost of charging for the entire trip. The last half of your video slowed down dramatically, with intermittent sound. Not sure what happened, but I initially thought that it was the Celcius wearing off. lol Great video though. Please keep up the great work my friend.

Apologies for the slowdown with the video! I got quite tired towards the end as the Celcius definitely wore off lol. Next time, I'll be sure to document the cost of each charging session during a road trip. For this specific trip, it's hard to figure out the exact cost per session until I take the trip again, but I can check the total cost in the Tesla app, which was $57. Do you mind me asking what year Model 3 you're looking at?

Do you have a decent commute and a home to install L2 charging? It won't be cost effective if you have to rely on super charging stations.

I've done a lot of analysis of my 2023 Y/LR and it ends up for long trips costing about the same or slightly less using superchargers as my old Honda CRV which gets 30-33mpg on the highway. Superchargers are generally about 35-40 cents per kWh. Where you save money is charging at home, which is 1/4 to 1/3 the price. So for road tripping I leave at 95+ percent battery and try to get home at 8-10% battery.. Last weekend I did a round trip of 330 miles to visit relatives. Added 23kWh in 7 minutes at a V3 supercharger on the way back for $9, and the at-home cost to go back to 95% was about $7 for a total of $16. For my Honda CRV it would have cost 330mi/33mpg=10gallons x $3.50 per gallon = $35. Of course, this depends on your electric provider charges for electricity.

I am not against EVs. Not my cup of tea but whenever I watch a travel video (really enjoy them) , the EV drivers constantly talk about range, and charging, cost, and where the next charge is. When I see the videos with gas driven cars they talk about the scenery, stopping for food, exploring smaller towns, etc. They never mention gas other than stopping to fill up. My point? I guess that is for you decide as I know what I want to drvie,

Thanks for your comment! EVs are newer, so we focus on range, charging, and costs to educate viewers about their practicality on road trips. We want to show that traveling with an EV is easy and convenient, including how far they can go and where to charge. As people get more familiar with EVs, we hope to focus more on the journey and experiences, just like in videos with gas-powered cars.
