The 2012 Audi A7 may very well be the best-looking car Audi has ever built. And it's close to being the best Audi built, period.
There isn't a weak spot in its design. In person it's sexy from any angle, and the interior is one of Audi's best and most logical.
The navigation now uses Google Maps, and that alone makes the system worth the extra money in my opinion.
Performance is stout, if not stirring: the A7 uses a 310-hp version of the S4's supercharged 3.0L V6. It goes from 0-60mph in around 5.5 seconds, which is darn quick...but it does it in such a smooth, subdued fashion that I hardly noticed. It's very difficult to keep your freeway speeds under 90mph in this car.
There's a well-designed hatchback with lots of tie-downs and a monstrous opening that extends the functionality of the cargo area beyond its nominal capacity of 24.5 cubic feet-six more than a BMW X5!
The A7 is fast, fun to drive, and practical with the huge hatch and standard Quattro all-wheel-drive. It's a sporty luxury car you can drive quickly in nearly any kind of weather and get decent mileage doing so (18 city/28 highway mpg). That makes its as-tested price of $66,220 seem like a real steal.

The Audi A 7 is a beautiful car. I actually road tested one. It was smooth handling and fast. When you start adding in some of the desirable options, the cost skyrockets to over 70K. Nice review as usual Ross.

Really great review. It is nice to see reviewers with personality rather than just list off stats. It is also nice to see reviewers who understand what, and who the car was built for, rather than just commenting on how the car is not fast enough around a track. Love the car too, if I could afford it, this would be my new family car for sure.

I'm totally out of the target market but I'd definitely purchase this car (27yr old single male with no kids). The MPG is amazing and 0-60 in 5.4 secs!! Kinda reminds me of the Jaguar XJL, but the Google navigation and wifi connection seals the deal. It's like driving a computer.........

I had occasion to drive an A7 for an extended period recently. I have to say that I sort of "get it" now. In a straight line, it does with an 8 speed auto what my Acura does with a 6M. And fuel economy in everyday use is about the same. The technology is a generation ahead of anything I have seen. The navigation uses a resolution and multiple technologies (GPS, 3G, independent SIM) that is amazing and very easy to use. I'm not exaggerating...navigation is a full generation ahead of all of them.

Looks like the target market will be for ppl in their mid 40's and up. I'm not a fan of huge cars, but I am a fan of Audi and I think they did a nice job with the A7

I'm test driving one tomorrow. I'm not a huge car guy, so I don't really care about performance. (HP, Traction). I do love the 28 mpg, Quattro, and the look! Here in the Bay Area, a lot of people have 5 Series, Benz, and G35s or 37s. I think it's the best looking car within my budget. (I am stretching it with this purchase.) With all that said, should I still buy it? Since it's a huge purchase, this will be my car for life.

Test drove the a7. Exterior=A-, Interior=A-,Size=C-, Power=B+, Technology=A-. This car has power on demand, looks great inside/outside, great features, and great mpg. My dislikes would be the size of the vehicle and the high price. I'm 6'4 and when I'm outside of the car looking down it seems as if I'm looking at a midget car. The rooflines are very low and their is limited back seat space. Cost is $70,000, which is $14,000 higher than the 2013 Lexus GS Sport.

i must say i didn't see the point to this vehicle... but now I get it. I thought it was just going to be a Merc CLS competitor - but it's more than that. It's an A6 Avant (wagon) with styling that for the fashion conscious. The car is downright sexy - like a CLS - but with more utility. Smart!!

Well you have your shot - the new S7 will have the 420hp twin-turbo V8 but quite honestly the supercharged V6 is a pretty strong engine on its own

@GeorgeKnighton What you'd have to decide, of course is whether the fair market value of an A7 is worth the extra over the fair market value of an SH-AWD Acura with Advance package. My answer is no, it is not worth the extra expense. The quality of the vehicle is not worth $25,000 more, and Acura's reliability is much better. But...I admit, I "get it" with the new A7 and A6.

Lexus GS350, natural inspired, no turbo, no supercharged. no over priced, yes top resale value, yes much cheaper than A7, yes good looking too. does 0-60 in under 6 sec as well.

i do like fast custom modified cars, i do have fully modified drag car, and i had a 500hp street drift car (cefiro with rb26swap),in short im not a total newbie on a fast car, my ceffy could easily smoke this stock car, but what im saying is, it is nice to drive something elegant+comfort for daily drive. you cant have all the good things together at its maximum performance ,eg super fast &comfort....you gotta pick one, or you can have both at 50% performance only.

At least Audi still gives us the A6 Avant, unlike BMW that dropped the 56 wagon in the US in order to sell the unsuccessful 5GT---the 5 wagon buyers just went to Mercedes, and the few sales it did get were poached from their own 7-series. Do you think the A7 will sell? Or will people just skip it for the A6 Avant? Will it hurt A8 sales as well? An A7 TDI would be a real statement maker though, and I'm surprised Audi doesn't offer one.

can't agree more why they couldn't make it a 5 seater and that was one of the sticking points I had to deal with when i purchased this car but I'm assuming they were probably afraid the 5 seater would eat into the sales of their A6 which is basically the same car without the exterior design and is supposed to be one of their volume leaders in the mid-size luxury class

It took me awhile to figure it out but all the 4 seater coupes in the segment are priced toward the higher end of the market - at that price the a7 or panamera will not be that person's first vehicle or family vehicle -

This is not like it should be a law, i just really think that driving a manual car is such a pleasure that nobody should jump right to a automatic, at least when he or she is a young person. Here in my country, Brasil, even old persons like to drive manuals and most of then have manual cars.
