What a huge insult to the memory of Roald Dahl absolutely disgraceful what they're doing

George Orwell predicted this back in 1948 with the concept of Newspeak; "The whole literature of the past will have been destroyed...not merely changed into something different, but actually contradictory of what they used to be".

I was about to write a comment much like the others already here...saying just how ridiculous this movement has become, when I realised that that just wasn't enough. This movement will railroad the whole world if the dare I say "sane" amongst us do not actively fight it. In this particular case, Puffin publishing are a business and money talks. From here I am heading to their website and will email them, outlining my disgust and plan to boycott any purchase that has been published by Puffin. I am only one person...but that is EXACTLY how this insanity all started. If we all stand together and fight surely common sense can win. Just shaking our heads and being outraged is not going to win this fight.

Just ban them outright and write a different book! Oh, wait, in that scenario they wouldn't be able to use his well known name and genius to make money!

It’s a disgrace to his memory. Roald Dahl was and still is one of the best children’s authors to ever exist. I loved all his books as a kid. I probably still would now even though I’m 20. Just as well I’ve got all his books from ages ago. I’ll defo be giving them to my kids. Not any new editions.

Roald Dahl books are brilliant, but their are people out there that are ridiculous, petty and idiotic.

The changes are almost hilariously arbitrary: 1. You can't describe a tractor as "black" or a silkworm as "white." 2. You can't describe drums as "tiny." 3. You can't use the word "hag" in a book titled "The Witches." 4. You can call a character "enormous," but not "huge." 5. They delete all use of the word "pale" in BFG, then later replace the word "white" with "pale" in Mathilda. 6. The small badger in Fantastic Mr. Fox is no longer Badgers son. They delete all references to his gender and any familial relationship with the other Badger. 7. You can't describe the Oompa Loompa children as "No more than four inches tall." 8. You can't say "crazy" or "mad," but you can say "barmy," "nutty," "dotty" or "out of her mind." 9. You can refer to shooting people but not "with guns." You can refer to "knuckledusters" but not "stilettos." 10. They delete a reference to a Keats poem. 11. You can say a man has a "wife and children," but not "a wife and ten children." 12. They replace "midget" with "tiny," then replace "tiny" with "little," then replace "little" with "titchy," then delete the word "titchy." WHICH IS THE OFFENSIVE WORD? 13. They replace "boys" with "children" and then replace "idiots" with "boys!" And it just keeps going on like this!

Can’t they just make it so that people can choose which version that they want? I want the original versions and I’m going to be upset if I can only buy the books by digging through bins at used book stores or having to scour the internet for original copies which will now cost a lot more. What the publisher is doing is annoying and stupid. I want my future children to enjoy the exact same books that taught me to love reading, and I want those books unadulterated. This really upsets me more than I thought it would have.

I’m crying here….I loved Dahl growing up, and I still do, editing his stories is true blasphemy! I’m a free thinking artist who feels, dances and enjoys art, music, history and literature…. I still have some of my old childhood books but will make an effort to collect what is left of his original work before this occurs to pass on to my family members. I will not purchase any new additions with changes; it will not be Dahl's work. It would be like purchasing a portrait by a famous artist that somebody else had drawn all over. It would be ruined and would have lost its authenticity. Let adults decide what they believe to be appropriate for themselves and their children. If they are offended by material then they have the choice not to purchase, read, listen to, or watch it. That is freedom. They should not have the right to remove my choice to decide.

Stock up on old copies of these books from online, second hand or charity shops!

Just read/watch Japanese creative writing e.g. anime series/films, light novels and manga. Most of these are free online. Plenty to offend the sensitive WOKE folks. Most are fine apart from the ones that are NOT translated for a good reason. Also, only buy children’s books from charity shops etc plus CHECK the publishing date. It is easy to spot the revised censored editions.
