I can’t explain how much I love your content. The way in this one you explain where you initially went wrong with it is something no one else really does or explains. Kudos to you my man
Always appreciate the support!! I was hoping that section would be helpful about the midfield issues... I didn't want to just show the finished tactic, but show why I did the changes so maybe it can help others see what to look for. My buildups were stunted and it's always easy to just blame the players but it was 100% my fault for not getting the roles right. Plus it's funny how a simple switch in a player's duty can change so much
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker couldn't support duty with "get further forward" work too? btw your channel is a hidden gem and i'm so glad i found it after like 6 vids 😄🙏
@@syamsutajrinozahibatullah7566 It's the Rensie FM24 skin on FM Scout. If you check out some of my recent videos, there's a link in the description to it 👍
A roaming playmaker thrives on space to operate. Using a lone roaming playmaker in defensive midfield is challenging as they often become entangled with other players. To fully utilize this role, it's advisable to avoid using a lone roaming playmaker for inexperienced players. For simplicity, a roaming playmaker and ball-winning midfielder partnership in defensive midfield, without additional players in that area, works well. Alternatively, a roaming playmaker in central midfield can be easier to integrate than a lone defensive midfielder. The ideal roaming playmaker is a versatile player with a well-rounded skill set. To easily identify one, look for an octagon profile. High stamina combined with balanced technical ability and vision are characteristics of a good roaming playmaker. Good Video mate.
Fantastic additions/counterpoints to how I used the role (and a good example on how there's not just one way to use a player role). Thank you for the write up and contrasting view! If you'll allow me a rebuttal on why I chose him for the DM position haha. It was purely personal preference, but when placed in the central midfield on one side (say the LCM area), I didn't like how he became too dominant on that side and would be less focused on the right sides of the field. Placing him in the DM slot gave him equal chances to influence both sides of the field, and I liked his movement from that area as well. Almost like he was a mixture of a box to box midfielder and a regista from the DM position.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker You are now the talk of the football manager community, and lots of new players are looking for your channel. You must have noticed that you are getting noticed by the community recently. I think the majority of them are new players, and they need to understand these roles simply. You will also agree that RPM on DM is far more complex than on CM. For beginners, simple roles like GK, FB, WB, CB, DM, BWM, BBM, CM, AM, AP, W, IF, CF, and AF are must-understand roles in their normal duties. They must learn to stabilize the team with these roles before trying to stabilize tactics with fancy roles, for example, the midfield with IWB and wide space with Carillero or attacking mid with F9, or playing no striker tactics with SS. And I can’t see the DLP video? That’s my best position and role. Make one, mate.
Last week I pointed out your amazing cap. This week I noticed when listening to you. I really like how you do these pauses when you speak. You don't rush to give the information. This makes me curious if you write out and are reading the information. Whatever it is however really like the presentation style.
much appreciated! Usually it's a combination. I have a script written out, but I give myself the option to go "off the cuff", so to speak. So like the section in this where I'm talking about the tactical issues was more freeform, since I wanted to keep it natural. But other stuff (like breaking down a highlight) is more exact because it has to follow a highlight that I can't change. And I find the pauses and general speaking flow is much more in line with my personality, so it's easier for me to edit like that (if that makes sense). That may be more information than you wanted but there you go hahaha
On my Villarreal save, I used to play Maximo Perrone as a DLP on the Defensive Midfield on my Gegenpress 4-3-3, much like a successor to what Dani Parejo did, an old fashioned metronome that will keep hold of his position and the posession. After 3 seasons of qualifying to the UCL but not challenging for the title (even though on the second season there I finished 2nd), I decided to build something from scratch in order to get all the bits and pieces working at the same time. I checked again on his Traits and that "Tries Killer Balls often" sounded like poetry to my ears. So I moved him up a bit on the field on my 5-2-3 Wide formation, in which I have given almost zero team instructions but personalised ones, according to how I want each role to play on the pitch. Perrone is now playing as an RPM, with Andy Diouf next to him. He is so damn good in chances creation and the assists he pulls out of the hat remind me of the golden generation of Spanish midfielders. I'm in early October in the season and he already has 5 assists, despite coming sometimes from the bench (I also play Martin Baturina in that role). Now the biggest challenge is to find the balance on transition to the defence, as sometimes I am caught off guard in the counter. Secondly, I would like to fit them both in the formation, preferably having Baturina as a Mezzala, in order to get more goals from his finishing/long shots.
One of my favorite parts about making these videos is reading about how you guys use these roles in other ways. I naturally have my ways I like to use roles, so love seeing how you use the RPM. Plus that player trait is so good. What do you use for the centerback roles? I liked using the libero in this tactic because he pushes up in attack to cover that midfield area (since my RPM so far up) And I am the same way; I don't use a lot of team instructions, but in my proper saves I love giving the players more specific instructions to highlight what they're good at
I play Jorge Cuenca as a Libero (last season I trained him at defensive midfield, mainly as Anchor or Half Back). Technically and in terms of vision, he is good enough but he has 9 dribbling. I also think of training Mario Vuskovic (summer signing, now playing on the right as BPD) on that role as he is perfectly well rounded (better long shots too and his attributes are all between 12-15) while on the left there's Abakar Sylla (which I signed for free) as WCB
Thank you that really means a lot. I remember when I first started playing the game, I didn't know what any of the player roles were and it was tough to find resources back then. So I always try to think about my past self when making these like "what would've helped me?"
When you said let's go to Spain to a top level example, i was pretty sure you'd go for De Jong. IRL he's the archetype of RPM for me, especially how he played at Ajax (i didnt watch him too much at Barca) Also probably Kobbie Mainoo can be a great player for it, i think he has great attributes in FM for this role
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker (This would be easier if I sent screenshots) So left to right... Anchorman - D, RPM-Support FullBack-A, CentreBack-D, Libero-D, IFB-Defend The RPM pushes higher up into the centre midfield the libero plugs the gap left by the RPM and sits next to the Anchorman, the IFB tucks inside alongside the CB forming a defensive square similar to Brazilian teams in their national league Hope that makes sense
I love these videos. I'm fairly new to FM, so I don't have a ton of experience trying the different roles and seeing how they actually work. I know they have text descriptions, but sometimes it can be hard to imagine how they interact with other positions just based on it. Thanks!
Thank you for the support! And that's my goal with the videos so I'm glad they're helping! And yea, sometimes the text descriptions can be a little obtuse haha. I think they do that on purpose, so you don't know *exactly* how they work but that's what we're here to try and find out XD
I ignored the RPM for years, but actually looked at what he does and what attributes he commands and now I like him even more. You can never go wrong with players who rely on physical attributes.
thanks!! I feel like the RPM has the highest variance in a tactic... sometimes it feels like it could be a world beater or a horrific disaster with no in between haha
Love this channel so much, as it gives an in-depth guide of each position. Could I suggest perhaps adding examples of some real-life players that play in these roles? - feel like this would be a great addition!
love ur content mate i think jude is more of a B2B/SS archetype since he's got the "get into the opps". tbf jude has those numbers with him but it doesn't mean he's fit as a rpm because he has those traits in my opinion, FDJ is the most suitable definition of rpm archetype player based on the rpm desc in FM, especially at his time when he was at ajax cheers
Another great video! On the subject of the differences of playmakers- role and duty will not change the player you have, only what they're looking to do. Just because a player's attributes fit a playmaking role, doesn't mean they have to be a playmaker. One of my favorite hybrid roles is actually BWM(S). A player who dives into tackles and has the aggression and work rate to play BWM, but with technical ability (eg 16 pas and vis), can function as a hyperaggressive playmaker. The Anchor playmaker is also fun as a 6, they will be super responsible with the ball but will occasionally break the lines with an incredible pass. Part of the fun of FM (and real life) is finding ways to make the most out of your player within the rigid roles that FM provides.
great correction, thanks for the addition! And with player instructions and additions of player traits, sometimes this game almost feels like an RPG with how you can create your own players haha
Just a note: from the pre game comments, the instruction "get into opposition area" matches well with the roaming instruction. Maybe also the "arrive late into opposition area". With those traits, the player might become an all field threat
great video again!, your videos are very organized, breaking the video into segments makes the video more easier to absorb. i would like to make add, if it is possible could you talk more in depth about the positioning of the roles off the ball in defferent phases of play. and regarding the roaming playmaker, what is the difference between playing him as a defensive midfielder or a central midfielder anyways great video man keep it up
That's a great idea about talking about the other player roles/phases of play; I'll see if I can start incorporating that stuff into future videos. With central and defensive midfield, I don't think there's much difference because he goes wherever anyway. He may get a little farther forward in the central midfield, but in mine he was getting into the penalty box even as a defensive midfielder! But he will play a little different if you use him in like a 442 I think. He'll play more torwards the side you place him on and
Great work man, all my respect! i'v maybe an idear, it would be amazing if you talked sometimes about combinaison between midfilder and more offensive player, like the mezzala winger combinaison etc.. anyway, thank's again for the job you'v done sir
Thank you for the suggestion! I have some more combination videos planned, including how to use different attacking/midfield players together! And thank you for the channel support
This one is a gamechanger, RPM was always hard for me to understand and how to pair him. I'll definitely try some things out hehe. Thank you for the video, great as always. Editing to ask you: Man, how do you have so many saves? and so much variety. Sometimes we're going to my neighbours Colombia, other times to Canada(!) and so on 😂😂
haha, there are some duplicate saves across videos, but some I have to do for roles that aren't already in a tactic. And I also like to give variety in the saves to showcase some smaller leagues (like the Canadian Premier League) and big leagues (Bundesliga, etc..) with equal videos. It's not an exact science lol but that's the thought process if that helps
Thank you! Really appreciate the support. I may stream at some point, but probably not any time in the too near future (plus I promise I'm not that exciting to watch play in real time hahaha)
Would love to see a you do this, but for the team instructions. I really like your simple instructions and would like to try like a minimal instructions type tactic, but always seem to get scared and start using vertical tiki taka as it just works
Great content as usual... Can you do one for the Complete Wing Back? I think it's one of the most "not-properly understood roles" in the game. What does it do, what's the difference with the regular wing back or inverted wing back and what role combinations on the wing or in midfield would it best work with? Looking forward to it :)
I've already started some early work on the CWB; not saying it'll be released like tomorrow or anything, but hopefully it won't be a crazy long time haha
Im searching for a "lazy playmaker" role but that stil is the heart of the plays like the roaming playmaker, like valderrama, carlovich and riquelme. I guess they are enganche? So the whole team move around them, but i want to play in a midfield at 3 and kinda modernize their role, so giving them more defensive responsabilty. The roaming playmaker need too many phisical attribute like pace and stamina, when in reality valderrama and co were very "lazy" even tho that role seems right for all the rest, they walk up/down based on were the action is, idk if any other role in midfield can recreate what im asking. Great explanation about to roaming playmaker, and nice video.
Hmm... maybe a defensive midfielder but adding specific player instructions? Or you could use the central midfielder on support and have a completely clean slate
I have a CM who I have played in almost every role to try to take advantage of his 18 long shots. He plays behind an AM so I don't really want him crashing the box, and RPM is the only playmaker role with shoot more PI. However, he only has 13 work rate so I play him next to a CM(D) so he doesn't have to start from the DM strata in a 4231. I wish RPM could be told to stay put defensively so he can have a free role offensively without gassing himself
my tactics is 4 2 3 1 double pivot is left - rpm and mid - dm and if i want rpm come deep to get ball to build-up like half back e.g. frenkie de jong, what am I supposed to do?
The biggest thing would be to train de Jong on the player trait "comes deep to get ball". Other than that, there's not a lot more to do with the RPM player role to force him to build up like that. You could try a DLP on support as well
Would having two advanced forwards good without having one on support duty like the deep lying forward? I know it’s always good for balance to have one on attack and one on support, but is it okay having two advanced forward and two CMa?
Two AF can definitely work in a tactic, but I would probably do only one CM(A), if you were going to use one. Something like a Box to Box Midfielder or a CM(S) would be good. That's a lot of attacking players, so you need some cover from somewhere else. Hope that helps and thanks for the question!
In my tactics I have 2 DM, a DM(s) and a SV(s). I have an amazing player in the DM role who has outstanding physical, defending and playmaking attributes but I feel like I dont use those capacities at all. Do you think I can change the SV in RPM and put him there ?
Generally not, the Treq should be enough of a playermaker for the team! If you did feel like it, a DLP could potentially work with the Treq, but he's not necessarily needed
Looks like a great trio! I may start off with Rice on DM(d) and then see how the match goes. If you feel you're starting to dominate/take control, switch him to support to add a little more to your attack
I don't think I tried that one. I figured he would be hunting the ball as well, but I do wonder if he could work with some adjustments to my system. Basically have a bunch of players causing mayhem in the midfield haha
haha not a Toronto native, but I do like the Blue Jays though. I'm a fan of collecting baseball hats though, so you'll probably see some different ones through all the videos lol
