Thank you! I'm making this tonight. A lot of family recipes died with my grandma. She didn't write anything down and we've struggled to remember what she taught us. You're recipes are so close to hers. Again...THANK YOU. Now I'm going to hunt down a plumb dumpling recipe.

Such a comforting channel. My grandmother was Czech and my grandfather German, so we made a dish similar. I wish you would try it. I haven't seen anything close anywhere. We take a rack of st louis ribs, puree a head of garlic with a little salt, use one head of garlic per rack of ribs, spread the puree all over the ribs and marinate overnite covered. The next day smoke the ribs for 4-5 hours. You can then freeze them or use right away. You then boil them in water for 45 min to an hour till tender, then take them out and make your dumplings, which we make drop dumplings, and place in the pork broth. The dumplings take on the smoky flavor and everyone that tries these said they never tasted anything sooo good. You could of course skip the smoking, but it would not be the same flavor. My sister usually smokes about 17 racks of ribs so she always has ribs in the freezer ready to boil.

Dekuju vam moc. I'm an American of 100% Czech heritage (50% Bohemian, 50% Moravian). I've eaten Czech style food all of my life. I just found your channel and have subscribed. You know, everyone is different. I love pork and I love garlic, but I don't like garlic on pork - it belongs on beef. I have been to Czechoslovakia (yes, back then). Velmi je teshi ze vas posnavam. (Sorry, I don't have a Czech keyboard, and RU-vid doesn't allow ASCII characters.)

@Judy Kurtz My mom made dumplings and sauerkraut every Sunday. She made it with a different meat sometimes, but mostly pork. I wish I had paid more attention to the love and work she put into it. She grew up on the Southside of Chicago. Her mom and dad owned a Czech bakery. She made the dumplings from memory. I wish I had written it down. The only difference between her dumplings is she formed them into balls the size of a baseball and cooked them that way. I will always remember the bread in a bowl on top of the refrigerator getting stale. I miss my mom. 🥺

My family always made this with sweet sour cabbage rather than sauerkraut, a favorite of ours especially for New Years Day! We do make a sweet sour sauerkraut with kielbasa but we only use water, onion, caraway seed and brown sugar.

i'm not sure my Spanish husband would appreciate all this delicious Czech cooking that I grew up with...my dad's family, the Cerny's were from Pilsen and my mother, who was Austrian, learned to cook Czech meals...thank you for sharing your recipes, so glad I found your RU-vid page.

LOL mine is from Little Village my Chi-town Bohemian long lost cousin😊he is completely converted now. He begs for goulash, dumplings (fruit especially) and loves saurkraut! You will succeed, balance is key in the "initiation" your comment made me smile. My family is from Cicero and Berwyn..,

Lived in the Czech Republic for a year, at first I hated Carraway seed, but this meal made me a fan. It really is an amazing dish. I love the Czech Republic!

My mom made this a lot while I was growing up. It is just delicious! I don't remember her or my grandma putting sugar in the sauerkraut, but I will try your way. I remember going to the Czech restaurant in Brookfield Il when I was a kid. I no longer live there, but now I don't have to travel there for this meal. I'll try making it myself. My mom also made it with roast duck. I am 86 percent Eastern European so that is my excuse for loving this meal.

I grew up eating pork dumplings and sauerkraut when my mom had dinner parties. I'm excited to make it for my children ...it is a delicious treat for me a v 8m sure my kids will love it too. Thank you for sharing the recipe. I couldn't find my mother's but I Pretty sure it's the same S my mom's

You need a larger and sharper knife so your not sawing through the onions. I’m 100% Czech and my Mom just died and she didn’t leave us any recipes. You are my recipes I never got. Thanx ❤️❤️❤️

We tried a smaller version with Chicken, Pineapple, Bacon sausage because we were craving Sweet & Sauer Kraut. It turned out so good!

YummmmEEEEE. So I was watching a lost episode of The Honeymooners, its a New Years Eve Episode and this is what they had cooked. It sounded good so I decided to pause it and look it up. This was the first video that came up on google and it sounds delish. Next paycheck I will be going to get the ingredients and am going to try this out. Normally I put a little Cajun Seasoning on everything but I think this time Im going to cook it like its suppose to and try something different.

This is what everyone in my family requests for birthday dinner. I had no idea it was so popular in Czech Republic. I grew up calling in Knedliky and Zelly. Thank you so much for your channel. Could you possibly slow down when saying the Czech words? My american ear can't catch the pronunciation that quickly. And you gave a shout out to Nebraska and Texas, Google Cedar Rapids (we have a museum). I can't wait to impress my family with all these wonderful recipes.

It can, I have just not tried it yet. I like the crispiness on the outside and softness on the inside. But you can definitely try to cook it instead of baking.

Hi can you use fresh cabbage and add vinegar to make the sour taste?

Hm, I am not sure if it would work. I have never tried making it with fresh cabbage. I do make halusky from fresh cabbage and it is different taste. The sauerkraut since it has been canned is marinating in the sour liquid the whole time so the cabbage is very sour and I don't think adding vinegar to fresh cabbage would work since the cabbage wouldn't have enough time to soak it all in.

You can if you wish. Pork stock is not something that is available in stores and my recipes work with easily found ingredients. Plus we never do pork stock.

That is how we make it. There are other recipes as well with probably using less oil. I grew up eating it this way.
