hi pals! i'm still on a bit of a hiatus here, but i've got a few videos coming out before the end of the year & will hopefully have more of a set video upload schedule going into the new year. thank you for being patient with me through my creative burn out, but i know i'm reaching the end of it & am excited to keep making content moving into the new year. i'm sorry for not being around as much these days, but i appreciate those of you who continue to show up more than you'll ever know.
love you jesse!! you will always be my favorite youtube creator whether you make one video a year or fifty. follow where your creativity calls you even if it calls you to rest. i will keep showing up❤
I know what u mean about the book covers. It's just sad that I cant get matching covers to series I'm in the middle of reading. Buying a book at a time and then suddenly newer covers come out and many of them are just hideous. Book collectors nightmare!!! Ugh!!!📚
Love you Jesse!! Take as much time as you need, we all need a break from social media and its pressures. Just know that your true fans will still be here for you when you come back. Praying for you and wishing you the best! ❤💜
Okay, fair enough, aber wo kam Chroniken der Unterwelt her!? XD Deutsche Buchtitel haben einfach nichts mit den originalen Titeln zu tun. Ich hab nen Lachflash jedes Mal, wenn ich "Mr. Parnassus' Heim für magisch Begabte" sehe, what happened to The House In The Cerulean Sea?? Das gleiche gilt für Under The Whispering Door und hast du die Übersetzung von Shatter Me gesehen? XD
the second Spanish shatter me was a real embarrassment for us lol (the 1st one was from Spain and the second from Latin America), now we’re getting the original covers!
@@jackie-fitz ikr! I guess it’s because of the publishers and the book rights in Spain and Latam. The latam ones look cheaper and almost all of us didn’t like them lol
16:11 ok no joke I felt the same lol. A work friend of my mom’s recommended City of Bones to me and I remember looking it up and seeing a ripped shirtless man on the cover and thinking “is this the right book?” 😂
Same here. I didn't even know that they have made a cover for the Bulgarian translation and to be fair it is no wonder that I haven't seen or heard about it. *shudder * Why? Just why? If the cover is like this I bet that the translation for this one will be like all the goggle translator quality ones. Me and my family have come across one too many like these. And I know that we shouldn't judge a book by its cover literally and figuratively but this doesn't exactly give me good text quality vibe, just minimal effort one.
Romanian here! The cover you showed is the original design for the first two volumes but they actually redesigned the covers for the series starting with the third one (and they eventually reprinted the first two ones). I loved the second design though! It has the type of illustrations you'd find on Ancient Greek ceramic work. I think it suits the concept more :) The first one is more nostalgic, as it was the first translation of Percy Jackson in Romanian, wayyy back when I was in early Middle School. I'm now twenty-two and PJO has remained one of my favourite series ever :)
I'm from Poland and yes... Mortal Instruments in our first cover edition are SOMETHING... I'm not gonna lie - I still consider them the UGLIEST COVERS EVEEEEEEEEEEER.... (and they just looks like early The Sims promo photos...)
Jesse losing it over gold foil is a mood. And what do mean embarrassing covers, Vampire Academy I had to cover in paper, looked so much like cheap romance books.
I checked out The City of Bones regularly in Czech bookstores, and I haven´t, not even once, seen the cover you used in your video. I didn´t even know it existed! And now that I know, I´m just gonna help myself unsee things with nails and sunglasses...
For the Mortal Instruments, I really love the covers that came out with just each book being a different color with runes on the front. I wish I could attach a picture here, but it's there on Goodreads if you see. They are paperback editions. Published July 2nd 2015 by Walker Books.
I personally think that fashion is a big part of shatter me. At least to me I feel like I can remember so many of the outfits Juliette wore throughout the books. Also Juliette mentions in I think book three that Warner has a soft spot for fashion as his closet is what shows off his personality not his room. Also Warner is obviously also slaying with every outfit he wears.
those ugly polish covers of mortal instruments prevented me from reading Cassandra Clare books for years lol :D luckily they changed the covers later on to US ones.
bestie you did us dirty with the czech edition of the mortal instrument, this is the old one we don't talk about. we have new ones (actually i think it's already two new editions) and i swear those are so much better!!! also you should see the czech edition of percy jackson...
So glad to see you again! Thanks so much for the laughs and your kindness! So rare on RU-vid, but so appreciated! Great work, and thanks again! My bestie and I were laughing so hard!
Those O.G. Mortal Instruments covers are _beautiful_ - and I have zero shame that I would read them in public, but your squeamishness is mildly adorable, which *almost* saves you from me being kind of offended by your inability to appreciate the artistry of those covers. Lolll
I really like the Thorne of glass uk addition it very interesting to look at others cover for all over some book but different cover for which countries
that dutch throne of glass isnt sold here anymore. (god bless us fort that) now we have different covers, they're boring on their own but have spines that connect
One thing I always loved was seeing the full version of covers too, not just what was clipped for the book. A great example would be the full art of The Sun Is Also A Star (string art version).
Lol I didn't expect to see a Bulgarian edition. I hope but didn't expect and was waiting to the end of the video so I can recommend Bulgarian covers 🤣😅 You have to check Shades of Magic and Scythe, maybe Addie la Rue, every heart a dooraway and the rest of the series. On the ugly side of the story Red rising is breaking my heart
I'm from Peru so I own the Spanish editions and they are waaaay better in person. The books have a double cover. The pink area on the black cover it's actually the second cover. The back cover is cut in a rune shape and the second it's all pink with different pictures of important moments in each book. I love them so much
My problem with a lot of the Lightning Thief covers is it looks like he’s about to throw a spear and… since when. Percy has riptide give him a sword on the cover!
Have you ever seen the US first edition of the lightning theif? I didn't know it had an entirely different cover until about a month ago! Totally different from the og green one
I come from a family of cowboys & cowgirls. We’d love to have you, but don’t worry…a plaid shirt doesn’t automatically make you a cowboy. You’d need Wranglers, boots, a proper cowboy hat, and a belt with a silver buckle at the very least. 😀😂🤠
I got so excited when you showed the persian edition even though I haven't read the persian version myself (I read the original English text due to censorship in my country) I know its dumb.
This video came like in a perfect timing, honestly, ‘cause I was actually searching what to watch next and then the notification appeared Jesse always on time even in his hiatus 🥰✨
The only fashion moment I can remember is Warner dolling Juliette up with his impeccable taste *chefs kiss* And his obsession over his own wardrobe/closet-room lol
11:11 That edition is in Spanish, but from Spain. "La piel de Juliette" was launched in Latin America, although today there are no copies left for sale, due to its failure. Shatter had me two editions translated into Spanish. One for Spain and one for Latin America.
No but the spanish edition of shatter me literally has the exact same Girl on front as the danish edition of Ruby Red, just a different dress (it might be Sapphire Blue that has that girl on the cover, but I’ve definitely seen her on one of the Danish covers for that series lol)
If you're a Logan Lerman fan please check out his short-lived 2004 television series Jack and Bobby. I don't know if it's streaming anywhere. I had to buy bootleg DVDs from eBay. But in my opinion it was a wonderfully and criminally overlooked television series.
I’m okay with real people on covers as long as it’s not a full frontal of the person or they’re looking straight into the readers soul. The Selected series does the real person on cover well
I'm Czech, I've never seen the 2 covers and I was DYING what was that 😭 no wonder I never picked up Shatter me or Mortal instruments lmao (and I swear our covers are much better now haha)
Oh you talked about TOG covers, but you have to see the persian translation covers, they are gorgeous, highly recommemd to check, even tho ACOTAR ones.
If part two ever happens, I think it'd be neet to mention the Hunger games. The Japanese edition is really, interesting lol but I kinda like it I think
Jesse, I will continue to watch your videos because you are my favorite book tuber and I’m excited for more of your awesome videos next year ❤ also I’m currently reading The You I’ve Never Known by Ellen Hopkins it’s okay I’m kind of in the middle I still love her though she’s one of my favorite authors but it’s okay I know the next book will be better ❤
I enjoyed this video! Looking back at these books brings me back to a time when reading was fun. Most of the books out now are meh with a capital M. Please do another video like this..for the nostalgia!
Actually, the Spanish version of Throne of Glass has been published two more times, one with the Alfaguara editorial that uses the original U.S. covers and another with the Hidra editorial that uses the U.K. covers… and tbh it’s the first time I’ve sen the cover you’ve shown. On the other ha declarado, the first Spanish version of Shatter Me is HORRIBLE! Thanks God Puck editorial is printing the books with the original covers and EVIDENTLY it looks amazing!
9:00 that cover reminds me of The Greatcoats books. Also, how about the awesome UK cover and sprayed pages for Strange The Dreamer Vs our kinda lackluster US version...
