The title of the piece is from Wilfred Owen’s Poem and the following lines: What candles may be held to speed them all? Not in the hands of boys, but in their eyes Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes. The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall; Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds, And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.
Rob Dougan Official the composition, the poem, both are the perfect marriage! Your new music is so heartfelt and raw, and always leaves me peppered in goosebumps! So much love for your work Rob, so much love.
Good to have you back in the game, man. Been a hell of a long time but as they say on the Grolsch adverts; "You kan't rush deez tings". Physical release (CD/BluRay) would be lovely. Any plans?
Your CD Furious Angels is one of my most prized possessions in my collection, it was one of only two copies I ever found in a store in my country Hungary. This was in around 2002, we still barely had access to rarities like this. It had been the soundtrack of my adolescence and I go back to it regularly to this day, nothing quite like your expressive and poetic lyrics and music, nor will there ever be. Thank you for returning!
I like his works a lot…but : His songs are lacking subtility and nuances. All notes of his melodies are always played at the same level. I guess that’s the way of composing for electronic musicians. I think he can still improve on this matter
My gosh, Mr. Dougan. You are such a unique composer. Thank you for your continued creations. Every piece from your earliest to now convey so much feeling in every instrument and strut. The fact you show these amazing players and give credit to their talented craft is very humble and respectable. It really shows that a harmony among men creates a beautiful peace (piece). I will always preach your amazing work to others and everyone else should do the same.
Rob, i'm fan of your old sound, like "Clubbed to death" («Kurayamino variation»). In 2002, i started to write music inspired by this track. I miss your old beats, but ... This is the best reincarnation of classical music that I heard. The only thing I regret that I can not hear it live. Sorry for my English, I'm from Russia) Thank you, that you don't stop move.
I just came across one of your songs and I was, wait a second, this is the same guy of Furious Angels, this is the Matrix guy! I am sitting here for the second hour hoping you would have more music. Not only that your music is such elegant and beautiful, but it shows how deeply sensitive you are. I love this one in particular since it felt like a fresh breeze of happiness, hope, pain and love caressing my soul. I am dancing Tango movements to it! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
It never ceases to amaze me, every time I listen, how the last bits of the melody sound so nocturnal, and like a calm acceptance after loudly defying the "good night". Such a powerful yet reflective piece.
Very few artists are able to move me and touch my soul and my life in that emotional way your music does, every note, every word, every sound, I feel them in my skin and in my heart, no words can describes the experience of feel and live your music. You're a real genius, thanks for the beautiful pieces of art you give to the world. Grettings from Chile.
Powerful. Very fitting to what has happened to me these past few weeks. Its like pulling myself from this horrible nightmare I was going through and saying that's enough! Thanks Rob!
I could listen to this on repeat all day. Rob Dougan, I've heard many composers in my life. But by far you are at the top of the list. Your music has helped me in so many areas of my life. Thank you for being passionate and creating powerful music. Hope I get to meet you one day.
Thank you, Rob! You are the genius of our days, your music was waited for such a long time and your return surely deserves world-wide success. Wish I could hear your music played alive in my local philharmony one day.
Je ne me lasse pas de l'écouter. Si j'étais une symphonie ce serait elle. Je me vois dans chaque mouvement, un flot d'émotions, un tourbillon de sentiments, une partition où dansent les notes de la vie, mon âme en musique ❤
Was listening to the 22nd Sunday album again tonight, and decided to look up the title for this piece. The poem is quite apropos right now. God be with this world.
I cried my eyes out while hearing this song.. just suddenly. This amazing orchestra and strings....it's such a bombastic music. Just epic! And all the effort and costs! I am stunned! All we people should get these pieces of art in better quality from you -if we can. Waiting for the next paycheck. We can't let art die!

I first heard Clubbed to Death on an old VHS tape of Rodney Mullen skateboarding way back around 2000. I've listened to your music for 20 years now and Furious Angels is one of my most favorite and most prized (I own a copy) albums of all time. Considering that I have 30,000 songs in my iTunes library alone (not counting the hundreds of thousands of songs I've downloaded and ripped) I believe that's saying something. This new piece you've composed is absolutely and very deeply moving. I felt goosebumps. Just like the first time I heard Clubbed to Death. I hope you continue to make music as your sound has always been a sound that deeply touches my soul to its core. I hear your music and I feel like I need to strive to be a better human.
I first bought your single clubbed to death as a teen and it’s been a joy to see how your music has grown and morphed over time. It’s great to see your passion brightening the lives of so many others. You’re making us Aussies proud! Warm wishes for the future
back in the days when CD was still a thing to buy, I'm very glad that I have your Furious angels CD in my collection; often listening to your music while on the train, I enjoy the 'instrumental' version very much, and the lyrics are so well written in all of your songs...they make me ponder. After many years, coming back to your music feels like being reborn. I look forwards to many more beautiful pieces composed by you. Warm regards from Canada.
I just can't stop listening to this track...and The Return too... and Vale... And Frescobaldi Toccata... I've just bought the EPs The 22nd Sunday and Misc. Sessions. Thanks for your music Rob, truly ! J'adore !!!
you are amazing...unique artist...I love your ART Rob...you help me very much, theres Magic and Hope in your music. keep moving, dont stop. we need more of you!! greetings from Argentina!! Mariano.
This is extraterrestrial, Rob.. I used to listen to you since 'Clubbed to Death' which is in my eyes a masterpiece and my all-time favourite.. To be honest, each of your tracks is beyond world class and pure perfection.. I see the words in your pieces, which i can't express verbally.. That's why, your genre is so familiar to me and millions of people.. Hats off to you, Sir.. Thank you for the opportunity, to be a part of your unique music, Rob.. Thank you for all.. Much love from Germany.. Please keep the great work up!
Thanks Morbid Vision. Noticed you had Ludovico Einaudi (who I first heard of a few weeks ago) performing a song called "Petricor" (which I only discovered a few years ago means the smell of stone/rocks after rain I believe).
I love everything you do, Mr. Dougan! Please feel free to share your amazing works with us more often. Your music is some of the only music that really makes me feel something deep inside my bones. I exclusively listen to you when writing because I am just so stirred emotionally and get so inspired. Thank you so much!
