i really like this episode man, that last part talking about being in the moment really spoke to me, what uncle rob said about "participating" in the current moment made me really think. thanks man appreciate it
Can't express how much I love shred show. The breakdown of boards and insight into the shapes and designs is so insightful. I notice that I'm more conscious about what my board is doing and how it feels while I surf. Bonus section was awesome too. Keep up the good work.
Awesome! I love that you've used this show & the opportunity of interviewing Rob to drop some wisdom on us. I think both of those bonus tips at the end are so simple but so appropriate for today's western society. Let's reconnect with the roots of surf culture & mindset. Great show Chris.
Best episode yet Chris!! Not just cos of Rob, his insights and this board but also because I have always admired Gerry's outlook on life and philosophies.
My favorite episode so far. Great job. My favorite part was the last 3 mins talking about being present and turning off your phone. So goooooood! Thanks brother.
I don't know how you got Rob to appear but it has moved Shred Show to the next level to have such and icon . As always your interview skills brought out the best in him (in such a short time). it was a nice mix to help explain the Almond Butter. This episode was the right place to share the positive messages/tips at the end. For the buzz that keeps me positive & smiling- it is the effect it has on people around me
Wow, Chris... You've nailed it! This ep was without any doubt THE BEST one!! Not because Rob was on it (it obviously helped) but the way you worked out this oportunity it's remarcable! A few days ago I've ranted with myself about how often we are not ready to take the most out of an oportunity just because we aren't well prepared fot it yet... In this case you show up and killed it! Really liked this new format of multi scenarios (back and foward from the Black room, etc), can't wait to see where it goes from here! Cheers on you geting to meet Rob, hope it helps you build Shred show to higher levels!! You know what, I really would like to see you interact with Shaper Studios and get your hands dirty, I have the feeling it could really help your cause, and thus help us! Thanks for the great content you share! Keep it up!! Cheers!
Chris. this format was perfect. loved the way you cut from interview to studio shred to discuss features that Rob was talking about in more detail with the aid of the board. loving the development of shred show. keep it up. ☺
Best episode yet. Well done. I've been pondering adding this board to my quiver for a few months and I think I know what I'm getting myself for my birthday in September. Dug the interview and wisdom. Thanks Chris and Rob! Yew!!
Great job getting Rob on the show, love listening to that guy speak. And yeah a phone free holiday is awesome, look up at a tree for half an hour in a hammock or something.
first, thanks for not alerting the world to that special place... I've been lucky enough to spend some time talking with Gerry myself and he always is a man of perspective. On another note, I go to work in a place with no cell service, and it is one of the biggest contributing factors to being able to enjoy the world for what it is. You don't constantly feel the need to compete with everyone's highlight reel that is social media. Cheers Chris, another great and insightful video
Love getting off the grid in mex, big sur, mammoth or anywhere I can say "my phone doesn't have service". Detaching from technology is one of the best parts of surfing. Keep on keepin on!
Awesome edition, two of my favourites, Shred show and Rob Machado. I like that you keep mixing it up and trying new things. (More change the forecast please).
Hey man I know I've said this before but your videos are awesome. All very informative and within the last year or so have become inspiring/ motivational. Keep up the good work
+Shred Show stoked bro. I'm s huge fan of the show for reals. I think it would also be interesting and very insightful if you did an episode with Steve Pendarvis about one of his Rubberduckie Fish.
+Shred Show While doing a big long trip in central america, usa and hawaii, my cellphone got stolen. i was using my friend's phone to keep my family updated that i'm fine and well. i was with no phone for more than 2 months and to tell the truth it was the best thing that happened on my trip. i was much more social friendly and made really a lot of friends. after that time i realised what a social block smartphone is. thanks for a very fun and wise video again!
I haven't had Facebook in over two years, and I once went without a phone for six months. It's the most liberating feeling, other than surfing. I'm reminded of... "Get a job. Go to work. Get married. Have children. Follow fashion. Act normal. Walk on the pavement. Watch tv. Obey the law. Save for old age. Now repeat after me, 'I am free.'"
Chris, Just watched this wonderful interview with Rob Machado and to have the 'Bonus" surf review was icing on the cake. I found this interview after watching the interview with Mark Price. I know that was your first interview and I loved it and hated some parts at the same time. I really like this format of not including yourself visually in this interview much much better. It was easier to concentrate on your very thoughtful and diverse questions. I love your style of presenting things and hope you are still with Firewire. You alone made me want to go out and buy one of their boards..... specifically the Almond Butter (hope they still make it or something similar......). One last thing, it would be helpful if you could always mention your name in the beginning (finally found it on one of the comments...) or write it somewhere down on the site so more people like me can spread your name and site to others. Hope to see more of the Shred Show in the future and if you stopped it, you should start it up again.........hahahaha. !
my doc ndr is very similar to this shape as far as being short, wide and having extra tail rocker behind the back fin, i love it's versatility, i can say though that with the wood construction when i have the money i will order one of these, I definitely do not need flex in a shape like this, my current ndr is 6X6 and heavy
Love this style of video! We all pick up magazines and read about places like Cloudbreak and/or watch videos of Pro’s surf like they do. But it’s hard to translate how that wave is for us every day 9 - 5 working guys that mostly surf around San Diego. And for most of us that might never get the opportunity to go to these amazing breaks it’s great to hear from a ‘Normal’ local surfer about their experience. Makes the wave, the place, and the people a bit more real and at least for me can translate a bit easier on what my experience might like if I ever get the chance to surf that wave or those boards.
Appreciate that Daniel. Truthfully though, I'm happy with what we've got. Another thought: I know people with 4 million + subscribers, but they make content that appeals worldwide. Surfers are a small portion of earth's population. So 20k + is substantial.
+Shred Show Vary true. I'm so glad to hear you talk about living in the moment, in our age people are so stuck in there own electronic world and it blocks a lot of meaningful human contact. I have been trying to exercise self control whwn it comes to the Internet and electronics in general. it's so good to hear other people are on the same path!! take it easy Chris!
I own the Timbertek FireWire Submoon in 8'6 and I can't say enough to good things about the construction. Super durable, gorgeous, just everything you want in a board except maybe the flex. However I feel flex is a touch overrated if you aren't surfing huge waves. Love it!! I've literally slammed it into my truck door and not one ding. No pressure dings either!
love robs style , i think he is pushing the core of surfing lifestyle , i remember watching one of his parts amongst all of the guys pushing the limits of surfing and he was destroying his alaia on some big indo swell haha , keep up the best content on the internet 👌🏽
Great vid mate I just laybyed that board today can't wait, so true about phone too, glad to hear that I have been doing the same with social media, wen I have a week off from it I sleep heaps better.
Chris I loved this episode. I also really in the FireWire president. Please do more of these with interesting surf industry people. I liked the combination of board review and interview. I've recently decide to switch away from FireWire competitors for the simple reason of durability. Best decision for my surfing!! Love my baked Potato and my Omni
Great one Chris! I'm from Portugal and a fan of Shred Show for a long time. Great topic. For me the answer is meditation and yoga. I've adopted it as a morning ritual and it just makes you feel more relaxed and happy all day. Can you tell us the dims that Rob rides on this board? Thanks for the great show and keep up the good work!
The man himself, but I've never gotten a chance to meet him... you were right, I really liked this one! He's the first pro I ever really liked to surf like... still do on Kelly Slater Pro Surfer! That game really picked apart their styles. Looks like a great stick, I have a great place for that one. Taking my old Clark foam fish out of circulation with the ability to really turn like I'd want. Man, you really did a TKO on this one with Machado in regards to design and explaining the Timber Tech boards. 👏👍
great video Chris ..I enjoy the shows .. man a nice book sounds great ! its been a long time since i picked up a good book the read , thanks for sharing. ..
If you get the chance to talk rob again, ask him if he remembers seeing a board made by the Ding King (Brian Syzmanski) in Encinitas? It was a 5'7"x20.5"x2.25 squashtail 20" wide, rounded point nose, & wrapped in carbon fiber (1st of kind) way before the hollow carbon fiber surfboard hype. This was in 2006 or 7. When rob saw this board, he said it looked like an ironing board. Then the next thing, Brian made him a similar yellowish tie-dye board but with a narrower tail. Well, that wrapped up carbon fiber ironing board was my board. The top was all carbon fiber & the bottom was red, white, & blue. So seeing my board, was that the initiating influence that influence you to make these happy medium surfboards?
Great Interview. Machado is the man, def going to check out that book. I work from home, so I forcibly dedicate myself to a project and ignore the phone, in theory.
Radical Episode! I love your show! I'm a huge fan of Rob! I would be interested to know what Rob would think of his Firewire models being made here in the U.S. rather than overseas?
Review a stretch next! Like maybe the thing or or buzzsaw! I just got a 5'6 buzzsaw w/ concave deck love the thing as a quad in ripp able waves and the tail slides so nice
Great stuff! Posting this well way after the video was poster but I'll take the shot. I'm a confident intermediate capable with speed in the pocket at 5'8 and 80kgs. Would normally be looking at a minimum 33L shortboard. Should I make the step-up to a 5'10 or go 5'8 with the Almond Butter?
