Hi Rob, I'm surprised your personal guide didn't tell you the real reason (being polite i suppose!) the guests arrived on the South side of the main terrace! It wasn't because of the view! The grand staircase on the north side of the main terrace where the guests were supposed to arrive and walk up to the main entrance, was never completed! One can see where it was started but since many parts of the estate were never finished at Hearst's death, the state has left them that way in honor of Hearst. After all, it was his dream! Thanks to Hearst, we have treasurers from all over the world right here in California! Those of us who don't have the money or good health to travel, can still see what is out there in the world right here!!! Thanks to "The Chief" ....

Yea i mean. Structures like these are what have survived of what people call the ages of civilisations like Atlantis/Tartaria. Most of these structures were destroyed on purpose after the reset, in things like world fairs. These that survived, were inherited/stolen by rich illuminati type freemasonic families. So yes this castle has seen some incredible stuff

When they stepped out on the celestial tower patio to take in the view makes you wonder how it was that Marion who drank like a fish (as did most of the swells from that era) never tumbled down the hill into the neptune pool. WRH must have kept the key at all times. 🏊‍♂️

Toured in 1969. One "cottage" was made to scale for his daughter. The scale of"cottage" was rebuilt and adjusted for her growth as necessary. One "cottage" had Ferrari and Lamborghini type cars as the "family" was there for the weekend. The Guide said they donated the Castle to the State of California for a tax break on the rest of the land and retained the right to one of the "Cottages" This was before Patty rejected her white privilege - became a "terrorist" and had her families influence get her a hand slap. A Beautiful example of Capitalistic excess during the times of the Grapes of Wrath.
@paulrosa6173
@paulrosa6173 2 года назад
I don't think Patty Hearst got a wrist slap. I don't think she lied about being systematically abused. It went on for months before she became Tania( I can't quite recall). Few people are that kind of target. I argued this point with an Italian communist at the time but what does one really have to stand on? It wasn't my personal experience and it wasn't hers (the Italian communist) either. A lot of people, privileged or not, tried alternative life styles in the late 60s and probably none of them were kidnapped for ransom. I believe she was genuinely traumatized and could easily, easily easily, have been killed and the body made to disappear or wind up deposited at the gates of the Hearst ranch. It was a kidnapping and you are a smug fool not to see that. Capitalist excess isn't the point. Being sheltered by so much wealth maybe is? Some day i hope you win the lottery and have to worry about being the target of every fraud that finds out about it, or that you can't walk down the street without fear of kidnapping. You and/or your's. that is. Wealth and privilege is largely in the eye of the beholder, too.
@sciencerscientifico310

The Hearst family is using a conservation technique that is very popular in New Hampshire and elsewhere, as well. People who don't want neighbors and have a lot of land are placing conservation easements that lower the tax bill. But that just transfers the property tax burden to anyone without enough land to do that. The state is full of patchwork, so called, conservation lands that apparently aren't even monitored for any kind of rational demonstration that it preserves any eco system intact. I tend to think of it as the DeBeers approach to real estate value. It artificially limits its supply. It is an aesthetic approach to limit land development and has more that a touch of snob appeal to it. We all benefit, I suppose, from the open space but few people seem to recognize it as a hidden subsidy from every town it is used in. The fact that the Hearst family benefits from the agricultural use of the land is actually more than anyone up here gets, as far as I know. The Hearst Ranch gets the profits from the cattle business without the overhead costs of real estate taxes. It becomes a hobby farm that could not possible survive with the full costs that most ranches that aren't so well connected to a state park still have to pay. The Vanderbilt estate, Biltmore, in North Caroline is still privately owned but preserved the views by donating the greater part of the acreage to the state (or national) park system. The family still benefits from the acreage of the truncated estate but not from the park land. The Hearst heir really does enjoy a privilege. Not to be misinterpreted, I love visiting these places and have admired them since I was a kid, but I am also a small scale homeowner and now appreciate what the tactic does to local real estate and property taxes. A state park was carved out of the center of the small town I live in. It's a kind of central park in a rural town. All development wraps around it. But on the whole the town struggles with a dying downtown that in spite of decades of renovation investment can never come back to life because the population isn't large enough to support the few businesses still alive here.. Chief Justice Marshall said " taxation is the ability to destroy" so the conservation easement at least allows estates like San Simeon to escape the wrecking ball. But not every conservation easement being applied preserves art or cultural landmarks. The central park in this small town is regularly harvested for timber and I think the proceeds go toward the maintenance of the park. It was a gift of a woman over 100 years ago who didn't what the town to change from what she knew as a girl. The future may think differently about the matter if population increases and/or the economy of the state or country isn't as well off as it is today. And there is no reason to assume it, or any country will be well off forever. The desirability of these aesthetic and sentimental solutions may not be nearly as acceptable to a future that could be struggling under the impact of global warming or climate change. Where will millions of climate refugees go? There are alternative ideas in land use that do not rely on an all or nothing approach to development. Maybe then we'll here more about them? The center for Rural Massachusetts study re: the Connecticut River Valley is worth a google.
