Gambling fuels sports and media now. Take it away and engagement drops off a cliff...TV contracts, media deals... anybody condoning it is not prepared for their own bottom line to take a massive hit. Sports were a lot better when I was a too young to know about gambling and how the business world works with how much pull these big companies have. It started with making a competitive sport, and somewhere down the road it turned into a business.

I hate the dodgers so seeing them get bad PR is a pleasure to watch but let’s actually see what happens. More than likely Ohtani’s interpreter is a fall guy and Ohtani will take care of him with some hush money. If Ohtani wasn’t betting on baseball why do we even care? Because it’s in CA. I agree. When people are pressuring coaches and players and refs to perform differently during games than they would if there wasn't betting involved, then you are risking the integrity of the game. Of course, having let the genie out of the bottle, its going to be Hell getting it back in. And you will soon find players/coaches/refs placing bets through their friends and family, or guys telling their friends and family about how they are going to load manage themselves in some game 2 weeks out, and they should get their bets in before the line changes.

Gambling is a tax on poor people. I know many extremely successful people and none of them are betting on games. However I also know people that struggle financially yet are betting on games. That big win is always right around the corner. They can “feel” it.

Nothing is worse when a team (NBA) is up by 20+ with less than 4 minutes left and they leave the guy in to score and take him out once he goes over. That in itself looks suspicious.

I just dont see why a player cant bet on themselves to win. If anything its incentive to always play their hardest. Maybe even add incentives like a bonus if the player or teams covers to ensure they never try to throw a game for a bet cuz them making more money is all based on them playing better

I feel fortunate that I just casually gamble. I got no idea what it's like to have a serious problem with it where thousands upon thousands or in extreme cases way wore is at stake. I just throw 10 down here or there. 50 max when there is a big game. I definitely lost in ridiculous fashion many a times. For me it is getting upset at that moment and easily being able to get over it the next day. People that have their livelihoods at stake or close to it. You almost have to regulate the kind of people gambling. Like even if they win should have to be evaluated before getting their earnings and if they refuse force a refund. Only when it comes to substantial money like 5k or more. You can't blame gambling alone for the idiots when those same people were idiots to begin with. If some out of control gambler that ruined their own life on bad bets does something stupid you can't just blame recreational or professional gambling on it. There needs to be a standard In place to even be able to play high stakes. Some sort of evaluation customers need to adhere to to play and win

Games are fixed sometimes. I once emailed a coach in the MAC CONFERENCE and cussed him out 10 years ago. Reason being I had moneyline bet in football. My team was up 21 points with 2 minutes left in the game. I lost the game outright. The damn coach was throwing the ball instead of running the clock out. Point shaving !

It’s going to be like in the movie “Any Given Sunday” where a coach or player or players will get death threats or worse- shot or murdered. Or points shaving by the players or the referees or umpires… (the number of fans who thinks sports are rigged or fixed, have increased a 100 fold! Mark my words…some coach, player, or family member of said could be held as ransom for the outcome of said game or sports contest!

It's simple. Just bet against your own team and/or on teams you hate. That way you win either way. I for example despise the Cowboys, Lakers and Yankees. So I just bet them to win every week and set aside money I don't mind losing to do it. If they win, I get paid. If they lose I don't care anyway because I can afford to lose the money - and I despise each team so much that I'm happy for them to lose. Job done.

They are normalizing gambling making it look like all fun and games with commercials, ex athletes and celebrities doing them. So now kids growing up today are gonna think it’s normal, perfectly okay to do. Which you can do I think when you are an adult to gamble but it should not be so easily accessible to the youth or promoted like all fun in games. Never fun to lose money and when you are now addicted and can’t stop, it’s gonna ruin more lives.

I don't find it tremendously burdensome that, if I'm going to be paying you MILLIONS of dollars, I be able to ask you to refrain from gambling...mainly, because of all the unseemly elements that come along with it. If, for the relatively few years that a professional athletic career usually lasts, you find yourself unable to abide by one of the very few limitations on what you're allowed to do, now that you're exorbitantly wealthy, then, by all means, feel free to forgo your guaranteed paydays for the chance to MAYBE "hit it big", and, win millions.
