The story I heard was that Steve Lukather recommended Robben Ford to Miles. Miles called Lukather to go on tour with him after Miles spent a week with Toto recording and playing. Lukather declined since the next day Toto was leaving for a tour. He suggested to Miles to call Robben Ford or Michael Landau. Lukather could have been even more famous, to bad.
