Am I the only one here who thought the film was absolute garbage! I wanted Mark to walk in, bitch slap him and call him an idiot, it's a terrible film.

The only thing I found even more shocking than how bad it was - were the positive reviews it got. Absolutely baffling.

Anyone else not really like Robbie Collins' reviews? They scratch the surface and just make superficial observations without actually giving us any impression of what the films is like. Seemed like he was talking about Besson's influences for the film rather than the film itself...

I agree with you. I dislike his reviews there was a lot to talk about with this film there was a lot going on I thought and had so many smart and clever ideas that could have been pointed and observed.

Totally agree! Clear he's a Luc Besson fanboy. How much of this film is wasted by pointless visuals?

Okay, first off, I just have to say- MODESTY BLAISE! If the film industry is seriously scratching their heads about coming up with strong female characters, they couldn't do much better than her. Anyway, liked this review. Could be very easy to pick apart this film- which, ironically enough, is very brainless, but is still very entertaining and fun to watch.

I really like Robbie. He hasn't got a quiff or big flappy hands. But he's got a magnificent beard and a lovely cardigan.

When is the good doctor back? The number of factual errors makes me think Collins didn't watch the movie and is just give a blind thumbs up based on the press notes.

I think it is really tough to fill Kermode's shoes when people step in. I feel the same way about Robbie Collin and James King (King might be slightly better). Both are good, but living up to Kermode is very challenging. Not knocking their ability, just praising Kermode's. Now Edith Bowen does a great job. Nothing wrong at all with her adding to the conversation.

Of course not. I respect what Besson was attempting here, but I think his reach exceeded his grasp immensely and the result is really naff. I say this as a fan of sci-fi.

This is one type of film I hope to see more of soon. Dealing with empowered female leads and highly conceptual. Similar to Christopher Nolan, but not shafting every single female character.

I never believed the 10% myth, however having watched this turgidataintment confection,I am prepared to belive that no one involved used even that much of their mental capacity during it's production.

The film does have flaws (the random clips of animals and some cheesy lines particularly), and I would have liked to have seen some more character development before she went robotic other than making a phone call to her Mum, but overall it had a key idea and went with it for the film really well. It wasn't too long, it was well acted, fast moving, and ultimately highly enjoyable.

Hear hear. Of course she can easily carry a superhero film, just as easily I would say as carrying a movie where in later years she revisits Japan in some way in a role reversal with Lost In Translation's Bob Harris character (Bill Murray). You heard it here first folks, years ahead of its time ;-)

I seen Luc Besson's name on this and I just said NOooooooooo. He has that effect on me. But after listening to this review I quite fancy it now. So Sold Robbie Collins,

GeoNeilUK I love those films, but lately Taken, Taken2 transporter 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10, Lockout, Columbiana (Not bad) etc his films hit on a formula he keeps mushing out, of which I know he can do better but doesn't bother and just goes for the dosh rather than the heart. Which is OK, but I jusr don't enjoy those films.

I loved this.movie...I thought there was no character development purposefully to show how insignificant humans are and the brevity of the movie was to reflect time and how fast life really moves, I think the lack of physicality on Johansson's character shows how she transcends violence and the more violent the Japanese mobsters are the less she reacts to the world

I myself, am 14 years of age and I am heavily contemplating on whether I watch this film. I do not like overly bloody films like 'Deadpool' and i heard that it was a rather gory film. Could anybody advise me or inform me on whether this film is suitable or not?

The only point to be scaptical against this movie is LUC BESSON. He tends to stress the overly artisticall moments in his movies BUT some of them like LA FEMME NIKITA were also exellent. Also the remake of the French original and the spin off series were well done too Right now I have seen the movie on German TV but I also own the DVD. Funny thing in the cinema here the movie was allowed up 12 and the DVD it has the stamp up 16

I quite I enjoyed this but then again I enjoyed Fifth Element and other Luc Beson films so knew what nonsense may be on the way and knew what I was getting into. The 100% brain mcguffin is nonsense but is an interesting framing device for what was as far as I'm concerned one of the best portrayal's if not the best of someone reaching transcendence.

A concept like this is so ambitious they need to put art to one side and just allow our finest physicists and philosophers to produce and direct it. Artists produce beauty but the beauty in natural processes is a byproduct of their spectacular truth. Or maybe I'm just too rational to "get" science fiction. This film bored me, cartoon T-Rex and all.

I tried to enjoy it but I just couldn't. Her character was just not interesting and to claim it as the best summer action blockbuster is just ridiculous!

It does rip off Akira a lot. Akira does it a million times better than Lucy though.

Nonsense. I think it's true, but it should come with the caveat 'under normal circumstances'. We don't use our full brain's capacity all the time. We only need some it most of the time, you get me? For example, have you ever been involved in a collision? Have experienced that 'time slowed right down' thing? Is that not an example of your brain working differently in certain situations? What about when people use hallucinogenic drugs? What about things like telekinesis? Also, would you been good enough to link me to an article debunking the theory? Cheers

i know, but you went straight for the wiki reference. You know that wiki is not allowed now as a reference when handing in a university paper? It's not a case of spoon feeding. You asserted your point as if you actually had a clue, when you didn't. You were probably reciting something you heard in the pub. To add to that, you dug out the most bog standards references the internet has to offer. I'm just pointing out that that's poor on your behalf, it's lazy. I was hoping you actually knew what you were on about, but you don't really. Good luck anyway, we'll not waste one another's time any more.
