As far as we know his last mindset was a very positive one, I think if you look at it like that it doesn’t quite feel so tragic,it’s more than some get.
Robbo is a baby. He got upset that someone didn't recognize him that he slapped them, and then cried when is uninspiring street art got tagged over. "Oh boo hoo, my name got painted over by a superior artist after I slapped him!"
@@BestArtist I would say they are both losers. I agree with you. Robbo is being a baby and his galley show had lame paintings. But Bansky did clearly steal most of his early ideas from Blek le rat. Then he just went fuill Andy Warhol after that, having people create pieces and put them up. No real true artist winner here. IMO take care
@@BestArtista superior artist? 😂😂😂 youre joking, right? The guy who uses stencils and copies a mans style from 20 years ago, while feuding with another REAL freehand artist that ALSO was already famous 20 years ago? 😂😂😂😂
That portrait by Robbo says it all. Pure talent if you compare both of them... Banksy is good but Robbo is a real artist. Old school always wins... RIP King Robbo
@@magnificusdominusduxchad4229 Dumb. He's done a 'little' bit more than that, if you pay attention. How many writers have directed an episode of the Simpsons? He's done Infinitely more than Robbo ever did, that's for sure.
Everyone has kind of underestimated robbo. A majority of people say he just paints his name and that is all. When he did the Zoe kravitz free hand painting, that just shows how talented he is and what more the man could do. RIP Robbo. You were a phenomenal artist and I hope some of your work forever remains on the walls in England and wherever. Peace from America, brother.
@@CM-iy1fk Like anyone who's anyone uses their real name on here son. I don't know who you are either, but I do know what you think. The fact you are defending a craply painted, posterised face proves you're an easily impressed toy yourself. I'm laughing at you.
@@aphexor1251 It doesn't make any sense. They had beef before, and all of suddenly he died? like really? I believe he got him murdered because he knew Robo was a legend and bansky was coming up, and didn't want his career bombed lol
RIP Robbo... Too all you haters, both Banksy and Rob were very talented urban artists and all they did was get into a little feud, and that's no reason to start comparing their work, they are both unique.
Thank you! Someone which passion about art! I love both of their work. People who fight over who's better or what is better are closed minded and it breaks my heart...
Two figures of art Two figures of crime A hero to the world A villain to each other And to this day at isolation, Both still are reminding legends. Dead or alive.
Banksy is like the living embodiment of gentrification, friendly reminder his net worth is around $20 million dollars. The whole idea of Banksy vs. Robbo is that graffiti communities have careful rules, and Bansky disregards these rules and does what he pleases, and then profits off of it. Robbo tried to be an original, and in the end he had hopes of making money from his art and commissions, not from tagging.
+Kelsie Lane And Banksy doesn't sell his art or prints. He lets people download them for free and greedy fucks sell them, but he doesn't stop them. Success doesn't mean you're great, but you're portraying his success as if it's evidence he's lesser (while lying, to boot).
The only people that don’t think it’s art is rich politicians who have never had to spray/paint anything in their cushy lives... Spray painting or painting in general is super difficult, let alone doing different shading and blocking like they do.. It’s incredible! Awesome show, thanks for sharing!!!
Alright, let's recap. Banksy... -Painted over another artist's artwork(that was 20 years old and iconic, to boot) -Uses stencils -Pretty much copied Blek Le Rat in terms of using stencils AND stole his original ideas -Annnndd is a coward who refuses to be interviewed at all :) R.I.P King Robbo
***** Plenty of graffiti artists are capable of making high quality work like street art but it's hard to do a masterpeice on an illegal wall without getting caught. I totally agree with you though.
nguyen danny banksy painted all over an ICONIC piece, dating back to the 80s when graffiti was booming, effectively destroying one of the oldest graffiti pieces ever. Hell, painting over ANYONE'S art is a huge dick move. So no, Robbo didn't get "butt hurt" easily. He had every right to be mad. By that logic, Banksy was being immature too when he responded. Also, "good street art" is subjective. I think Banksy's shit is just that; shit. He has some nice pieces but most have been plagiarized.
nguyen danny It wasn't damaged, it was COMPLETELY PAINTED OVER. Do you not understand the significance of a 30 year old graffiti piece? It's like if someone painted over the Mona Lisa(*not comparing Robbo to da vinci, they are miles apart in talent, just for the sake of an example*) and you just told the artist to "recreate it". The sentiment is gone, it's not the same and doesn't hold the same value.
As an art major myself, it always hurts to see art damaged that has taken hours to create. Banksy painting over Robbo's work was more than a dick move. By painting over the last remaining work, he destroyed the entire history of Robbo, making it almost like he didn't exist until he came back out of his retirement. He wasn't "butt hurt" by any means. What gets me the most is that Banksy's art is considered public art now, whereas Robbo was doing his work illegally. Bansky can now free hand though he chooses to continue stenciling.
6:49 the longer I look at this piece, the more I realised how amazing the piece is. I just started doing graffiti, so I'm not sure if other pro's could do this. But the way the colours blend, the shadowing and the yellow background just sounds beyond difficult! Imagine the adrenalin rush Robbo must had. Respect for King Robbo!
@@ThatVinceGuy nooo way! Not that I don't believe you, but damn! Long live King Robbo ! Edit: you got a source? Curious to read about it. I'll Google also but maybe you have a better source or something
@@ThatVinceGuy found the source! That's incredible.. should have been there forever. What I always found awesome and amazing is how huge Robbo was. Robbo was (according to Google) 2 meters! I am from The Netherlands and just am below the 2 meters but have friends, who are even younger then me haha, who are even taller then Robbo. Being lare must have advantages for things like climbing, jumping thing. But also a disadvantage in terms of being unnoticed. Especially he did a looot without stencils! I think he did in a/this docu but nothing fancy like Banksy, more something like 'f*ck Banksy'.
You know, everyone doesn't have to pick a side on this. Idk, we could, maybe, just appreciate that both were artists with different styles who painted on a couple of each others works.
@@mariewarrington992 it's more than the art though. It's not choosing styles, it's choosing right and wrong. Graff writers live the life style and live by codes and rules the same way any culture does. Robbo is one of the very first people to bring the culture to London from new York. That's literally god status in graffiti art.
This is one of the most amazing videos I've ever seen and the most inspiring one for me as an artist. I hope Robbo will rise again to continue doing what he was doing. This is not how things should end, this is not the way. I want to see him rise up and smash the world of art with double the strength. I want to see him as strong and creative as never before. From all of my heart, get well soon, Robbo.
bert yes it is so is finger painting where as graffiti takes skill any body can do what ba sky does so less dope imo still art tho just third grade level 😆
@@ukbloke28 he came back after banksy capped his piece!! The general rule is NEVER GO OVER OTHERS… especially with a stencil to cap it.. love banksy but he did it with intent to take his place
@@DjNegi You have no idea what you're talking about. The piece had already been gone over so much it was hardly visible. Besides which - you think there's a rule about not going over? Lol!!!! You really have a lot to learn.
@@DjNegi Never you mind who I am, son. You lost any credibility in this game when you stated your little sunny cartoon version of graff with no crossing out. Lol. You know nothing. Be quiet.
Both guys are visionaries in their own rights. We, as fans of art need to stop creating and feed such serious beefs. Though the wars are entertaining, sometimes it can cause actual problems with real people. Respect to all true talents as well as those who merely aspire.
Blek is the OG apparently, and he’s definitely right about not being happy about his style getting jacked, banksy shit looking like he ripped of blek- not cool man.👊🏻
Robbo has amazing character, and is an amazing artist. Banksy covering Robbo's art and Robbo laughs, so full confidence, so strong and passionate, he is amazing not letting Banksy get that last laugh and I hope he wakes up soon enough to do it. Because King Robbo is worth it, and a great man. Get up soon Robbo, Your kids, fans, and promoters would surely love to see you up and adem.
@Side Stepper if you don't know anything about the art then don't get involved. Blek had his rats STOLEN his redering style was stolen not just because its a rat.
@@prawngravy18 Blek dient invent stencils you plum. There was a huge movement of that in Paris in the 60s. Blek's work is boring as hell, and he caught. a free ride off banksy, who, despite what this shit documentary would have you think via carefully selected images that are superficially similar, is a million times more diverse and creative.
Me too bro I’ll never forget watching this on like e4 or something 10 years ago, I literally have watched it 20 times since it’s such an intriguing story
Shawn Clover ...... you are absolutely right.. He is a very talented Artist.. But that doesn’t mean he’s a good person. Nor did he respect the Graffiti culture and it’s unspoken rules.
If you like Banksy then I've got some great "art" for sale that my 6 year old niece made in her coloring book, she was even able to color inside the lines without using a stencil #TeamRobbo
Banksy with his satire art world that caters to middle school art teachers. Banksy is a corporation or a collective of artist that make pop art or "anti"pop art. so edgy but soccer moms can't turn away.
the Camden Robbo mural was painted over with a black and white depiction of the original with the additions of a crown and a can of spray paint with a hazard symbol of a flame above it. It was done by Banksy as "a tribute to him and as an effort to end the feud in a sense of lighting a candle for Robbo who was still in comatose condition"
I like how at the beginning its quite hostile bit towards the end robbo was quite glad banksy did it coz it gave him the impetus to come out of retirement. R.I.P Robbo
"Of all the walls in London." Way I see that wall. That is something special. A place where both artists could express themselves in a for/against/neither statements. When on Earth will the Tate or MOMA just start sending CEX trains across the Americas with a portable gallery on the sides? Beats staring at iron gates for 20 minutes waiting for them trains to pass RIP King Robbo.
44:13 this shot is amazing ahaha, cops walking by Robbo standing next to a tag of his own and the piece where Robbo and Banksy are beefing about. Beautiful. King Robbo!!
This is essentially the same thing as Rothko vs. Pollock but it's with street art. It's a really great deep dive into what made both artists great. It's just unfortunate they can't see the greatness in each other because of how devoted to their techniques they are.
Wow, wow, wow. Stunned by the way this finished. Lost any and all respect for Banksy, who sounds like quite a nasty piece of work. RIP Robbo, a truly talented artist (unlike some)
I am from San Diego, I painted in the late 80's early 90's...Back then if you used "stencils" or "tape" you were considered a "toy".I understand times have changed and so has technology.I respect Banksy's work he has talent and he is very creative.Very good documentary!!! Rest easy Robo....now you can paint the real heavens
If you like Banksy then I've got some great "art" for sale that my 6 year old niece made in her coloring book, she was even able to color inside the lines without using a stencil #TeamRobbo
I'm glad they left out the tribute to Robbo from Banksy because it's totally insincere. I'm quite shocked that so much of Banksys work is a rip of of Blek
In Melbourne we celebrate street art (including writing), we have a lot of places in the CBD where you can paint legally, artists travel all around the world to paint here. This is pretty interesting to watch.
Bankys is a artist, Robbo is an artist, the man above is the artist art is within us all. how we show or not show it is what is inside us at the time this guys are the best REST IN PEACE Robbo
If I ever meet Banksy I will give him a second slap he won't forget. Team Robbo!! The whole point of graffiti was to go against the system not become apart of it!
Robbo & Banksy are very different artists so there is no comparison to be made ! The feud was theirs and theirs alone . Now the real genius was Blek le Rat 👍🏻 way before his time and good on the French for recognising this street art as street art back in the day ❤️ is Banksy a copycat ? Yes for application and execution only , his depictions are his own .
