The updates to the EU Product Liability Directive have very significant ramifications for software developers and publishers. Under the new regime, software will be subject to product liability laws, as other products have been for some time. Software bugs, and particularly unpatched vulnerabilities, could be judged to constitute negligence.
This video is an edited version of a talk Rob Carolina of ISC gave at RIPE86 in Rotterdam. It was edited to focus on the discussion of the Product Liability Directive, which was part of a larger discussion that also included the EU Cyber Resilience Act.
The recording gives an extremely brief and pithy example of what the PLD could mean for software.
