Robert Clary, he's a beautiful man. It's so inspiring hearing him talk so wonderfully about life in general. He and his Hogan co-stars brought so much laughter to us fans who grew up on the show . I got a kind of tear to my eye when he said he was the only castmember of HH left. God Bless Robert.

I believe Robert Clary was one of the first actors on the soap opera the Young and the Restless when it started--I don't think he was on the show for long

Best part of his book Robert Clary, from his wonderful memoir, From the Holocaust to Hogan's Heroes: "After I found out that none of my family who was deported came back, my prayers ended, and so did my belief in God. What did my parents, who were extremely religious, my sisters and the rest of my family do to deserve such an end to their lives? Where is the justice? These gentle people who tried to make decent lives for themselves - why would God take them away so cruelly? To teach a lesson? Nothing has been learned from their deaths. Man's inhumanity to man still exists."

I simply ADORE Robert Clary! I loved ALL the cast at Hogan's... They were all so funny & awesome in their own special way... Of course Bob Crane was a handsome guy, as they ALL were... But ROBERT CLARY, was the cutest, sweetest, seziest lil Frenchman ever!! I love him so! Hope he lives a long, long time. He looks very healthy & young, even in this interview!! He is a survivor & an overcomer. God Bless you Robert Clary!!❤❤❤

I am seeing this interview for the first time on December 1, 2022. Sadly Robert Clary passed away just a few weeks ago. I knew that he was in a concentration camp when he was very young, but I never heard his whole story. I am so impressed with his positive outlook on life considering the horrors he had to endure and losing most of his family to pure evil. I have read many people complaining that they felt "Hogan's Heroes" made light of the Nazis. My Father fought in WWll in Germany and other places, and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He saw and was involved in many horrific situations, but when he watch Hogan's Heroes, it was like therapy. Seeing the Nazis and Germans be goofs and idiots was a kind of revenge for my Dad, and some of the bad memories were lightened by the laughter created by the show. His favorite character was Le Beau, and he became my hero for bringing laughter and happiness to my Dad. Robert Clary, thank you, rest in peace. 💙

I thoroughly enjoyed this and wanted to hear him talk more. He seems like such a wonderful man with interesting stories. I've seen some of his artwork and it's very good. I look forward to reading both his and his sister's book.

One of my Mom's close friends was a friend to his sister, and she impressed Mom so much because of how sweet she was, even after having gone thru so much hell. _God_ _bless_ _and_ _keep_ _you_, _Robert_.

Robert still looks very young for his age. It is hard to believe that he and Kenneth Washington (Sgt. Baker in the last season of Hogan`s Hereo`s) are the only surviving cast members of that great program!

Dear Connie Martinson, I very much hope you read this message. I found this video by a lucky coincidence and was very surprised that Robert Clary experienced the liberation in Buchenwald. I knew that he was a survivor of the Shoah, but as I said, I didn't know that he was in Buchenwald. I have a lot in common with Buchenwald. My grandfather was killed there. And a very good friend, teacher and substitute grandpa of mine was there too and survived. Emil Carlebach was the "block elder" in Block 28. The "Jewish block". Emil has been dead for almost 20 years. I don't know how Mr. Clary is doing today, but I am very happy that he is alive and I would like to ask you whether you can put me in contact with him or whether you can ask him whether he knew Emil?

I loved HH and am a big fan of Clp LaBeau. I only found out recently that Robert Clay actually survived Hitler's hatred attack on Paris, including an actual prison camp! The show poured too much sugar on the life at a German prison camp. RU-vid has a number of videos of Clay talking about his past experiences and is quite emotional about his lost family members who didn't survive it. Also, he is the only ones that original HH cast who is still alive, along with Kenneth Washington, who took the place of Ivan Dixon (Kinch). My heart bleeds for Robert and others for having to suffer under the hateful hand if a corporal!

He was never in a prison camp but in a concentration camp or extermination camp, more than one actually...

Unreal that he was in a camp and acted in a camp. I just found my long lost family and tomorrow drive almost 6 hours to see my birth mother But we have talked for a week now I found out that my background is French and native Canadian and my Grandfather fought in the Normandie beach battle and helped many French people. But never really spoke much of the war or wanted ever to fight again ...anyways Werner Klemperer was Jewish and insisted he played a moron in the show or find someone else

+Johnny Porte_bonheur Oh, he's French all right, and the few lines in French he has on Hogan's Heroes show his accent beautifully - working-class Parisian, an accent that sadly mostly died down since then. What's funny is that Newkirk, with his Cockney origins and accent, sort of is his English (Londoner) counterpart :o)
@johnnyporte_bonheur9104
@johnnyporte_bonheur9104 9 лет назад
Belphegor82 Yeah exept he wasn't from a working class at all imo and always was in show buisness.
@Belphegor82
@Belphegor82 9 лет назад
+Johnny Porte_bonheur I expressed myself badly - I meant "populaire", as in working- to middle-class. I swear his accent has nothing "posh" at *all*. He talked (at the time, anyway) more like Jean Gabin than Louis de Funès, for instance :o)

That was one amazing thing about Hogan's Heroes - many of the actors playing the non-American characters really were from the countries they represented. Richard Dawson (Newkirk) and Bernard Fox (Crittendon) were British. Werner Klemperer (Klink) was German, and while John Banner (Schulze) and Leon Askin (Burkhalter) were not German, they were both Austrian, so German was their first language.
