Robert Crais is one of my favorite writers alive and up there in my favorite writers ever. Thanks for sharing this. I also appreciate Mr. Crais sharing with us both his personal journey: as an adopted child and also how he brought it into Voodoo River and how he struggled with that passage, but also pieces of his life and journey, including his brief life as a carney. As someone who is working at writing now (by writing every day), Mr. Crais’s work and journey is very inspiring to me.

Arguably the most entertaining author since John D MacDonald, but it is a shame he was writing about Vietnam veterans Cole and Pike but didn't know much about the war. You don't "win" a limited war because the country wasn't trying to win. Korea and Vietnam grew out of Kennan's theory of containment of communism. In Vietnam, there was a 700 mile hostile undefended flank, and there was controversy when the obvious step of striking Cambodian sanctuaries was taken. If anybody had wanted to win Vietbnam in the WW II sense, Hanoi could have been bombed like Hroshima and Haiphong could have been blockaded early on.
