Robert Cuccioli performs "This is the Moment" from the Broadway production of Jekyll & Hyde. On the Rosie O'Donnell Show, May 14, 1997. Like my clips?? Check out my radio station, Sho-Toonz, at www.live365.com...
I absolutely agree. His on stage transformation into Jekyll was remarkable and totally believable, a mesmerizing performance. He deserved a Tony. This is what I have come to understand. the New York theater producer community at the time was and probably still is a rather closed club unwelcoming to "outsiders" and Frank Wildhorn (and company) were real outsiders and to this day he still is. His shows and songs are extremely popular abroad much more so than here. NYC critics, another part of the club, put down all his shows as being derivative at best or "out of date" (they often used the same criticism against Jerry Herman too) and amateurish at worse. So Jekyll and Hyde and company had no chance at the Tonys. Nonetheless, Wildhorn did manage to do a feat on Broadway especially for an outsider in1999 he had 3 shows Jekyll & Hyde, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and The Civil War all running at the same time. I also think Pimpernel with great Tony worthy show with Tony worthy performances by Douglas sills and Christine Andreas. The Civil War was also very moving and thoughtful. It just shows you that talent isn't often the most important. Playing the game is more important in many "industries" and Broadway is no different. Of course, luck like everywhere else in life plays its role too.
@@bobbywise2313 I absolutely do too. They listen to the critics. They should listen to the audiences. The pre-Broadway version which I saw in New Orleans was even better than the Broadway version. Also the pre-Broadway sets fit the show, in my opinion, much better too. Why they kept fooling around with it is beyond me. It already had 10 years of revision time already. They did the same with The Scarlet Pimpernel. Which I thought was a terrific show too. It had a much lighter heart when it opened on Broadway and when I saw it the audience stood up and cheered and cheered. The newer version went for the dark side and even though I thought it was still good, it changed the heart of the show and I think the ruse that Pimpernel was based a strong hero disguised as a rather foolish If not insane fop worked the best. The light heartedness was gone and it was now just a hero against a demon. Simply didn't work for me as an improvement. But then I love musicals in general. I am grateful that I had chance to an audience member, an important part of the theater industry equation too, at these wonderful shows.
Those eyes!! 😍 Was such a privilege to witness him live on stage performing this role that was made for him. One of the most remarkable live performances I’ve ever witnessed 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Still don't know who I like more. Anthony Warlow or Robert Cuccioli. They are both amazing!! This is one of the most beautiful musical songs ever written.

Robert is so Handsome and gives me goosebumps when he sings. He has the most fantastic voice I have ever heard. He was so increditable in Jekyll & Hyde.
I met Cuccioli and Linda Eder in 1998 after one of the spectacular shows. They couldn't have both been friendlier and cordial; free with their time and full of laughter. Cuciolil is light years better in the role than any of the others who came after him as well.
+organboi I know this is 2 years old but technically he said others who came after him, and Warlow's recording is from 3 years before Cuccioli. Regardless, Warlow never played it on stage so it's difficult to compare them fairly imo.
@@organboi I have heard Warlow and he's terrible. Cuccioli is who made this role and it's his. This song is his. He is the definitive jakyll & Hyde. I have no hatred of Warlow, but I'm tired of his fans belittling the one who made this role what it is today. Robert Cuccioli is Jekyll and Hyde. Full stop. This song is his.
I've seen him perform, and it was even more heartrending the the play "Joseph..." You should see him in full costume, fully in the part. It's beautiful.
I saw him in Jekyll & Hyde in LA before it went to Broadway! My Aunt and I just looked at each other wide mouthed when we saw him appear onstage...WOW! Hunk! And, talented!
@theatredrok Are you serious?! His vowels are perfect. Untrained singers sing "When all I've doan." Cuccioli sings "When all I've done." Untrained singers sing "Becomes moin." Cuccioli sings "Becomes mine." Untrained singers sing "My final taaaste." Cuccioli sings "My final test." And the amount of passion and grit he puts into this is unmatched.
Saw J&H in 1997 and he was incredible. IMO he was robbed of the Tony award. His "Confrontation" scene was incredible. My wife knew him from his St. Mary's days. Love this clip of "This Is the Moment".
Does anyone know where I can find him singing "Confrontation"? I found one where you just hear his voice, but I can't find one where you actually see him sing. Thanks! Man I love his voice!
I saw the original cast on Broadway. He was incredible. Alan was amazing too, but with how demanding this role was, I really thought Robert should have won the Tony.
no joke- this guy is the guest artist in our production of the rock musical 2 gentlemen of Verona, and he is freakin amazing, everyone's gonna get quality time with him (and probably autographed memorobilia as well), its amazing!!!!!!
He floored me. I am ready for psychiatric therapy sessions for thinking I could sing. Haha. Gosh, this was totally impressive and beyond description. Truly awe inspiring performance. Bravo!
Vince Shaw has a nice voice. But on this song no one can touch Robert Cuccioli. Definitely one of my favorite voices on Broadway, along with Douglass Sills

Technically no. He was the first Broadway Jekyll but there were two concept albums before that plus a Houston run and a national tour before he was known as Jekyll and Hyde. Colm Wilkinson (original Valjean from Les Miserables) is technically the original, followed by Anthony Warlow who many believe sang this song better. However I believe Cuccioli is a better Jekyll.
He did Phantom as well. THere are two different musical versions of the Phantom of the Opera| . The Lloyd Webber version is the best known version. The lesser-known version was the one that he starred in. He has also acted with David Hasselhoff, who has also played Jekyll and Hyde as well.
Cuccioli is outstanding------[ am hoping to see him perform somewhere in the tri-state as soon as possible--i don't care if i have to drive--walk or swim--i will be there
just gotta say how unbelievably attractive this man is. everything about him is compelling and passionate--his voice, his face...his expression. LOVE YOU :)
@AtLastOnTheGround Yes, I am serious...as a vocal performance major and diction TA, I think I know what I am talking about. I am assuming by your response that you have some background in singing so I will use vocal terms as well as IPA, that I assume you understand. His vowels seem strange because he uses to much of an [a] formation. "When all I've done," he actually sings [dan]...one, he sings [wan]...even his test is not right...he mixes the open and closed "e" and makes it sound awkward.
