De Niro famously isn't the best guest on shows like this, he's quiet, reserved, maybe even a little taciturn, but he does seem to like and get along with Jimmy.
Jimmy jokes that their interviews have gotten better , but this was probably the most animated and responsive I’ve seen DeNiro be in an interview . Well done !
Every time I watch and listen to De Niro, all I can think of is the iconic roles he has played.... Travis Bickle, Neil McCauley, Vito Corleone, Rupert Pupkin, Jake laMotta, Jimmy Conway, Noodles... the list is endless. A total legend in cinema. ❤
I had the same reaction when watching "Oppenheimer". Thought Downey's performance was revelatory. Glad he got the recognition for it ( didn't really like the movie so much though ).
One of the smartest people in the business who knows right for wrong, ethics, morals . Knows real people from fake and dangerous people. Thank you, Robert De Niro.
I didn't know Robert was Jimmy's first guest on his Late Night and regarding De Niro, he's a national treasure, who replaced brilliantly Marlon Brando to play Young Vito Corleone in the Godfather part 2, which came out in the 70's "The greatest time of American movies ever".
De Niro seems to really like Jimmy. It says a lot about Jimmy's character because De Niro is a pull no punches honest kinda guy. I always get a kick out of watching De Niro in interviews because once the interview is over he just gets up and walks away and nobody will dare say a word. 🤣
It may be luck but I don't think so. Robert DeNiro is true to himself like Jimmy, that most of us can relate to. It's why they are part of our American fabric of life. But for the Academy Awards to deny Oscars to Martin Scorsese, Robert DeNiro and Leonardo DiCaprio, it's a gross injustice as it was a deliberate snub. Their films take us more into life historically, factually and personally. Keep it going, Jimmy!
You can tell that De Niro genuinely likes Jimmy. I remember when he went on SNL Weekend Update to make fun of Jimmy to his face. It was the dawn of a great relationship.
Kudos to Jimmy for having him on and prompting him to talk. He is difficult to talk to for some reason. He does not have to be a blabbermouth about it but he is on a talk show promoting a film.
My birthday week is always totally insane, so i regret that i had to just record a few Shows & not watch them til today; so its too late to comment while still very topical. What i wanted to say however, is that i couldn't have received a BETTER Present, than to see 2 of my very FAVS: DE NIRO and CHELSEA on the same dam show! How lucky did i get!! Keep speaking TRUTH to POWER Robert!!!
As he's approaching "the end" he seems to be more personable and open to "silly" questions....I love how particularly at this point in life he is like FUCK IT! Imma say exactly what i feel about life, my country, Trump, etc. All that may polorise BUT no doubt his body of work is incredible and probably the greatest method actor of his generation! Legend.
