I live in Holland but I have heard about Superstition Mountains. Is that the place where the "Dutchman's Mine" is supposed to be? And lots of people have disappeared?

I have no idea, but it must be somewhere in Hyperborea, Aquitaine or beyond the black river? Or in Nemedië, Stygië, Brythunië, Shem, Zembabwei, Hyrkanië, or towards Khitai. (I still have the old prints where they show a map of the time Conan lived in, very handy.) 😉

Robert E. Howard pretty much invented the Weird Western genre with these stories. They're so great!

also plus a bit of rider haggard, and a horror story I remember about how the narrator's grandmother's cow-skin sofa turned white over night. :)

as an east Texan Im well aware of such feuds, coming from an old southern feuding family myself, what he speaks of is quite true and there are many examples of such.

You're absolutely right, even in the story/history of Billy the Kid it is mentioned.

Good narration of one of my favorites, and yet it is a little remembered Howard story. I like the theme of the lost race of Serpent- like men, theme he also visited in his better known story THE SHADOW KINGDOM. I also believe there are rumors of a lost race in First Nations folklore, and some more fringe researchers have spoken of this, but this may fall into the realm of conspiracy and be a can of worms best left unopened. ;-)

This is Robertson Dean , my favourite narrator ,what a voice, and my favourite two gun Bob story so far. I loved the way it went from Zane Grey to H.P.Lovecraft. This story has a number of elements in common with Lovecrafts The curse of Yig ( the feathered serpent) and The Mound ( the underground world ,the reanimated dead and the mound building Indians ) l wonder which came first. If you haven’t read these stories try them,if you enjoyed this you will surely enjoy them.

i really don’t know why, but i really like Howard and i really don’t like Lovecraft. i think Howard relies on the character and what happens to him, so he has a personality, while Lovecraft relies on events and weird beings, not the person he puts in the story. This was another great story read by a really good reader who holds your attention throughout. :) 🐈🐾
