Thank you so much for this video. Robert II is my 21st great grandfather. And it goes up and up through the High Stewards of Scotland all the way to Hato de Dol, the Knight of Dol. I just recently got interested in my family history and Ill be for sure using this video and your teachings as a point of reference and research. Thank you thank you.
I am a descendent of Robert II's daughter Princess Elizabeth of Scotland who married Thomas de la Hay, Lord High Constable of Scotland. So greetings to all my distant cousins on here. Robert II is my Gr gr gr 19 x grandfather.
His surname was Pollock, my great grandfather. I love the channel. The history of Scotland is the history of America if Americans realized this family tension from way back, it would aid their understanding of today's political tensions. Indentured servitude began in England and was mostly Scots and Irish who opposed British rule and got their lolly in the grinder. The independence of America is the independence of Scotland, aye, many Scottish lads fought for the union against the Brits and won. Many forgot their ancestry, and over time been manipulated to believe what's on TV. God bless Scotland the Brave, My Love Scotland.
I’ve been researching my family from my maternal grandfather was James Stewart ( born here in Logan county /Russellville , Ky in 1919. It’s taken me 3 years to trace our ancestors and lineage. I’ve done everything from 23andMe to Ancestry and family tree and from those 3 years combined with hours of research and making sure names, dates and places were correct and corresponded with one another. And it all lead me to 7 generations ago to a James Stewart born sep 2 1758 in Ardvorlich, Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland and a Margaret Stewart ( which is oddly her maiden name as well - still trying to connect if it’s a different clan stewart or interbreeding ?) she was born 1713 . She was older than him. Which seemed to be a rare thing in those days . Anyhow I’m stuck here trying to find out any information on her . I only know her fathers name was Alexander and no place of birth or mothers name. Anyhow they were the first to arrive in North Carolina here in America and it all lead to me here. My brother is unfortunately that last of our family lineage to carry on the Stewart name and if he doesn’t have a boy it’s sad to say the name dies with him.
Your videos are always a delight. I've learned a great deal from you about the tumultuous history of Scotland. I may have been raised in Canada, but my heart belongs to Scotland. Thank you.
Thank you for explaining this story. It speaks to how difficult it was to be a Scottish monarch, when the Stuarts were the most successful. Was there ever a time the nobles were not causing trouble for the monarch?
This is wonderful! I have recently conducted some ancestry research....I found King Robert II in my lineage tree. Ever since I was a little girl I have always loved castles. I wish to visit Dundonald one day and find out more about my family. My last name now and my maiden name are not connected. I am adopted and found my biological family has some very interesting lineage.
John. ... Always a smile on m'face when I start one of your great videos. Sometimes a tear or two by the end ... but listening to this litany of this Who's Who and How in Scottish Royalty is a Wow. You do know your stuff, and with frequent giggles from your viewers too. Well done.
@@jmunro-graham1568 don't you start, it took 458 years for Prince Johns Curse to run its course in my family, and it cost the lives of two wee lads both of whom were brothers. The day when my great grandfather 19ish times removed John Stewart died at the hand of his brother David Stewart being caught up in the feud between David and James the 4th. The reason David came to murder his brother was because it was John who brought James back from France. The day when John was taken to his death bed it was then that he placed the curse on the head of his first born son also named John Stewart, as well as all first born since then.
My 24th Great Grandfather was King RobertII. This documentary is eye opening Thank you for the history My dream is to visit Scotland and view all of my kings and saints I have a lot of Stuart's snd Stewart's throughout my line to King Robert planning on visiting this year I hope you are still doing tours 😃
My great Grandfather is Robert II My Great grandfather is also Alexander High Stewart on a different line that also means my Great Grandfather is also David I. My point I am trying to make is SO WHAT!!! I am Scottish born and bred, and I would like to point out like 90 percent of Scottish people are descendant from the Scottish Royality there is only 5 million people in Scotland, the population has changed that much Robert the Bruce time, it went from 500,000 to 5 million that means inbreeding (intermarriage) much be very common in such a small population, Royals tend to have lots of children that live long so yeah you are highly likely to be related to Royalty. It really is not a big deal! Especially, because I come from Stirling, my family were still Scottish Nobles 450 years after Robert the Bruce died. It's not a big deal, if your family has lived in the central belt of Scotland then you are bound to be related to the Royal family of that area! It is a very normal and common thing! 80% of Scots live in the central belt, a good chuck are going to be descendant from Stewarts I guarantee.
We visited Dundonald last year as I learned we were related to the royal Stewarts. Quite an unsettling history when u look into but still exciting. Seems a few of ur posters are relatives…any in Canada too? My ancestors settled in Nova Scotia first. Stewarts, Hunters and Watsons in my family.
my husband and I love your videos. I have Scottish heritage. I got to visit Scotland in 1994. The first place I placed foot on Scottish soil was at Tantallon Castle. Would love to see a video on that location.
There is something absolutely fascinating about Stewards/Stuarts. So many paradoxical figures in this dynasty. It's almost as they were cursed... 5 generations of rulers that died before turning 45 and 7 rulers in a row that started as kids. Yet they were effective enough to secure their right to rule for generations and over 300 years total, usually able to destroy inner opposition in Scotland (even when it costed king's life), but if they failed, they were still able to recover. They united British Isles, tried to introduce full time absolitsm in England and Scotland and aspired to be a dyplomatic powerhouse equal to Habsburgs and Bourbons - in the end, it finally costed it all 3 thrones. But when you think about it, only Robert III and Charles I were truely terrible monarchs. But of course they created most of problems for other rulers, and other kings and queens were usually too busy beign kids and/or dead to be truely effective rulers. But still - it was the last british dynasty that was truely british, and it had last rulers of England and Scotland that truely ruled. Sory if my grammar is terrible and greeting from Poland.
Hi Bruce, thanks for the video, but you didn't mention that Robert II of Scotland was the owner of, what is now, the Balmoral estate purchased by Q.Vic and her husband. Can you please give us the history of Robert II's life at the original Balmoral? ( Bouche morale?) And how come Q.Vic was able to obtain it from the line of the Scottish King?
Answer to "what was Robert the 3rd real name?" ~ John (the Steward) ps = new subscriber here...you're fantastic! I thoroughly enjoy your videos and I thought I had already subscribed weeks ago - Signed, Bonnie Steward Moerdyk
@@ScotlandHistoryTours I am very serious! I can send you my family tree! I have many royals and nobles. Plus I have family that first came to America on the Mayflower, and at Jamestown
He is also one of my great times many grandfathers. I'm also directly related to William the Conqueror The Plantagenets, The Boleyns and The Howards as well as many other nobles.
i learned alot about the context of Robert ii, but still know nothing about robert ii. what was his favorite color? who did he take to the prom? did he win any battle?
Thank you for sharing! I’ve always wanted to visit Scotland and experience the culture first hand. I have a line of Scottish descendants, and traced it to the Stewart’s. Lady Marion Hamilton of Torrance Castle is my 12th Great Grandma. The history is very fascinating. Looking forward to more of your videos. Christian
I have most of the Stewarts in my family ancestory, as well as the Bruces, the de Burghs, the (de)Grahams, the Erskines, the Campbells, the Boswells, Douglas, Setons, and a whole ton of Drummonds, but I tend to think anyone with Socttish ancestry can likely trace back to some royalty. My family went from roylaty to weavers in six generations so I reckon its not that special, but I still like to say I'm related to most of the nobiity of Scotland all the same. James the IV is my 13th Great Grandfather, and therefore I am also descended to Robert II and the Bruce, Majorie being one of my great grandmothers.
Hi there, is it possible for you to make a video about Robert Stewart - 1. Duke of Albany he must born around 1340. He comes from my greatgrandfather's family but it's hardly find amy informations avout him in the familyvronicle. Can you help
Are you going to do a video on Robert II’s notorious son, The Wolf of Badenoch??? Plus...I would like to see you do a video on one Scotland’s greatest swordsman, Donald McBane.
I can only assume that the flat screen TV was a plasma with an image burnt into the screen. So although it looks good on the castle wall it's performance left something to be desired. So everyone wanted it, but weren't really happy with it when they got it.
Hey Brandon, yes Stewart (or Stuart after a bit of mixing with the French ) is common. Think about the number of generations since then, clans subdividing, etc. Still not a bad name to have though...
It's a very interesting name to have and it would be worth looking into. The spellings vary a lot between Stewart/Steuart/Stuart but don't always follow their roots eg folk make mistakes all the time and my grampa James Stuart is buried with my great grandpa James Stuart but the younger one's name was spelled Steward on the burial records.
Quite a story of the Stewart family, some of my many grandparents. I can see why their children decided to eventually emigrate to America with getting chased around and getting heads cut off. King Robert the III and his fathers before him were my grandfathers. Robert the III daughter Mary Margaret Stewart Princess was my grandmother and she was married to George Douglas Earl of Angus. My Next grandmother up from her was Elizabeth Douglas 1398-1460 daughter of George and Mary. She was married to David Hay 1408-1478. David & Elizabeth had a daughter Isabel Hay 1443-1487 and she married Walter Kerr 1445-1501 Lair of Cessford. They had a son Lord Robert Kerr b. 1465 and married to Catherine/Christian Rutherford b.1467. I have a lot more great grandparents in Scotland that include many Sir Robert Boyd and Thomas Boyd grandfathers going back to 1185. I have done genealogy for over 30 years with other family members. I did genetic testing as well for genealogy which confirmed my links to Scotland.
Please respond if your father was an actual aeronautical engineer. (Affirmative or negative) Otherwise, thank you for these amazing videos you've created! They are absolutely wonderful! Thank you!
Re the horses kick. I am reminded of a certain individual who got sent up on the radio. A man had rung in to say how he'd been persuaded to change his mind and vote for Brexit. When Nigel Farage in all seriousness asked the caller what had changed his mind, he said he'd been kicked in the head by a horse! As this was live radio it wasn't edited out! Truly a fool! 😅🇮🇪🏴🙏
I found him on my family tree and decided to see if there was any information on him and his family. The tree said this and more "Robert Stewart, III Also Known As: "King John the Lame King of the Scots", "John Stewart", "Earl of Carrick", "King Robert III of Scotland", "Robert III of Scotland", "Robert III", "King of Scotland", "Earl of Atholl" Birthdate: August 04, 1337 Birthplace: Dundonald Castle, Dundonald, Ayrshire, Scotland Death: April 04, 1406 (68) Dundonald Castle, Dundonald, Ayrshire, Scotland. Buried in Paisley, not Scone as was traditional (kicked by a horse) Place of Burial: Paisley"
You can all settle down now. John Stewart's curse got put paid to when my oldest Brother Kim died at 7 months old on the 14th November 1961. And when Nigel the youngest died officially the afternoon of Monday the 16th May 1966. Then sent back half an hour later. So Prince Johns curse has well and truly been put to bed.
Hey Aron, I'm thinking I probably asked a question in this video, but since I make it a couple of years back I can't remember what question John is the answer to.
I decend from Robert's daughters Margaret and Isabel. Margaret married my ancestor John McDonald Lord of the Isles and Isabel married James Douglas Earl of Douglas and Mar. I also decend from Maud Bruce thru the Hamiltons...
i finally understand why all these Roberts & Jameses & Davids & Wuznames were always killing each other and then being killed, turn and turn about, reap what you sow, etc. A FLAT SCREEN TELLY! That makes sense of it!
Well according to my family tree I am from the house of Stuart and I'm like the 20th great granddaughter of King Robert III born John Stuart of Scot's through his daughter who nobody ever mentions princess Mary of Scots
@@jbearmcdougall1646. I think we've all got some stinking Stewart/Steuart/Stuart blood in us. They appear four times on my granny's side, all linked to the Steuart's of Grantully. And she married a Stuart!
Page 88 After Wallace's execution the revolt was continued under the leadership of Robert the Bruce (1274-1329), who was crowned as King Robert I in 1306.
My name is Christopher Shawn Nickell I am the True Royal Bloodline King of England Scotland and Ireland my family came from the Darinii Tribe of Northern Ireland
It was never supposed to be like that. Greed and power had destroyed much of their original moral values. They started off as saints and were Anointed and Ascended. They were supposed to lead humanity into righteousness. The original Haplogroups of J's and R1a's pushed them out of power and killed most of them. But If only I had the funding and access to resources. I could help restore these people. Many would not agree because they have forgotten about their hidden abilities. They have been hidden for so long and lost their ways. Many royal children have been rigged to hide and protect certain bloodlines. It's hard to tell who's real. People have been too big on their pride wanting a shot at the throne not realizing that it's in their angelic blood. It's not something you can attain. It's something you are born with. Many of these new Celtic groups and Clans have become to glamorous, materialistic and dictating of others. I too am from the Y lineage of the High Stewards. You do not have to be a Royal King to wear a crown chakra. It's difficult to see all of these millions of people in churches loving our ancestors but yet they don't have any respect for us or their fellow human beings.
