A superb "lecture" from Dr Starkey - his analysis of how Blair undermined our democracy is eye-opening. It goes a long way to explaining why the majority of the population feel unrepresented. It is clear that if the UK is to be saved we'll need a Restoration.
It’s not just the fact Dr Starkey is “outspoken “..... anyone can shout over people.... it’s the fact he is very often proven right in his analysis on the topic of conversation.... and has a wide appreciative audience 👍
Jenrick changing mind does show bravery, but why did he initially get it wrong? Is he just changing his mind to please the voters, and, hypothetically, he will change his mind again after getting into power? He could just be an unprincipled people pleaser.
Tice changed his mind over the jab, did he not? Farage changed his mind over mass deportations and still refuses to engage in the subject. Hypothetically, Reform could also easily renegade on their promises once they've gained power.
The good of our country is more important than any one party or individual. It's time put differences aside, swallow pride and find points that can be agreed on to enable us to rebuild and repair the damage that has been done. 'Reformed Conservatives' maybe? Whoever wins the leadership race they both need to work together afterwards for the common good.
The liberals will never tolerate conservatism. I think its about time you realised it and stop living in la la land.Younger people who believe in conservatism see 2 failed parties and will not vote Tory or Labour.
Yeah when I saw Dominic Grieve, William Hague also voting for Kemi, made up my mind. And other things like no plans, no policies eg tax, immigration etc? I heard kemi asked for more students to come here WITH their relatives! Do not agree with Kemi about abortion. Word salad is not enough to get my vote!!!! I like Robert Jenrick, said clear plans I like. I like all the people supporting him, I saw.
In today's Spectator, Kemi calls anyone who questions her membership of the WEF as a conspiracy theorist. She doesn't deny her membership, just that you’re a conspiracy theorist if you happen to dare mention it. Jenrick, however, does not have the same ties or connection. Nor is he backed by the same Michael Gove and establishment as Kemi is.

Amazing powers of fortelling from some of the commentators on here. Thatcher was happy to be in the Heath government before becoming leader. No one could have predicted the changes she would push through when she became tory leader. I would suggest the same applies to the two current candidates
That implies that the Tories will ( eventually ) become the government... After the last 14 years, I don't think anybody should bet on the voters being too forgiving...
Thatcher was a relative unknown with little to no cabinet experience. The two candidates have many years of cabinet experience and extensive voting records. It’s not unreasonable to draw some conclusions .
surely this has been set up for her, yet another....Can anyone tell me how she got here ? a total unknown until she rather absurdly ran for PM, same thing that Patel did earlier. There must be better candidates so why do they stand aside ? are they forced to ? Even Hunt comes to mind.
@@chesterdonnelly1212 Well, I'm a Boomer. My only fetish is for meritocracy. And the reality is that she already displayed in the leadership election after Boris's departure that she had more guts, intelligence and honesty than the other contenders put together. If they'd elected her then, the Tories wouldn't be in half so bad a place. Instead, they got Truss.
As a fellow Cumbrian I agree with David Starkey on most things however reform will be getting my vote again at the next election unless Jenrick wins the leadership and manages some kind of miracle.
@@SmartCookie2022if you are going to make bold statements like that at least make the effort to explain what you mean , other wise you opinion is worthless for sure , how cares what you think is worthless with no explanation, are you saying that people have to respect at least one of them? Or that fanboying David is worthless?
The only realistic hope for this country is for the Conservatives to get their act together. Reform have the the right ideas, but they'll continue to spilt the vote of the right.
I voted Reform but it's now evident they don't have the right ideas over immigration. Farage says deportations of illegals isn't even on his agenda. Jenrick says he will deport illegals and he talks a good talk but there isn't a cat in Hell's chance he can take his woke party with him. So I'm politically homeless again.

@@MIKE_THE_BRUMMIE Jenrick and Jacob Rees-Mogg both want to reform and democratise their party should Jenrick win the leadership contest. If Kemi wins, she'll just appease the wets by doing nothing and filibuster her way to the next election.
I like these interviews and gaining knowledge of the so called intellectuals/none productives. The productive classes are treated as slaves by these people who think they know best, best for whom.. Intellectuals read lots of history like David, and from this history they repeat the mistakes of the past, based on the standing of the writer, not the outcome of this opinion. Winston Churchill was far from infallible, and Thatcher's legacy is shown when we see the absolute degrading of parliament, and the governments of resent times have no control of anything that counts, the corporate world owns policy and law.
…on another note, but one that I know is dear to Professor Starkey ( bless ‘im ),..Scotland ! And the Scots ! I should like to see the professor begin to follow George Orwell’s avowed policy. Insisting, as he did, on employing the term ‘Scotch’, with reference to the folk as much as to the grog.
Sorry David, but you're wrong about the 2 candidates. Jenrick will fold like a cheap suit. He hasn't the cojones to change the Tories. And you think Kemi would be ruled by Hague & Gove? She'll listen to them - as she should - but is completely her own woman. She's by far the best hope we've got.
Kemi should be automatically disqualified. Her parents gamed the system by coming to the UK to exploit the British tax payer by using our NHS and to swindle themselves a British passport at the same time for their daughter. This kind of behaviour should not be rewarded. She is no more British than the other African who committed the atrocity in Southport. In fact, at least he grew up in the UK and so would have a better understanding of British culture. These kind of opportunists should not be allowed anywhere near parliament to even be allowed to become an MP. Her loyalty is not to Britain and she's already exposed herself as a fraud.
Bless no. The people are voting Tory now for the same reason they vote Labour at the GE. They see no alternative. If there were a GE tomorrow the Tories would be in and the people would start voting Labour in reply. The People are bereft of intelligence, imagination, and political literacy. For far too long now the UK has been held hostage by this duoploy. Two tiny parties often flirting with bankruptcy without virtue or nouse detached from reality giving the People an illusion of choice every 4 years or so. Rerform are no better. They will be looking to form a compact with the Tories now Tice's comments have revealed they are without solutions to mass immigration and a membership that is slowly grasping that a vote for Reform is a vote for 'Civic Nationalism'. It is not FPTP either. It is simply that the People have no control over MP's and so government. MP's are the free of freelancers. It is a shame the People don't have access to a mechanism like the 'Party Whip'. A plague on all their houses.
@@clangerbasher Might I ask just two questions? Jenrick had no history of right wing credentials until six months ago. He backed Gove, May and Sunak for leader. The guy saw an opening in the market and seized on it. Not very convincingly though. He’s a shoddy salesman.
@@jackarcher9652 When it comes to 'shoddy', your expertise in the dark art seems greater than mine, but please don't purport to patronise me with your prejudice, thank you..
@@salopiansheep8913 I’m judging him based on his voting record and ministerial roles. That’s the opposite of prejudiced. The guy is pitching to members - not the electorate. When Braverman asked him about leaving the ECHR a year ago, he was apparently mortified by the idea. He will quickly renege if elected.

Good evening David; I've been what is grandly entitled, an Investigative Research Professional for some 36 years. In that time I've seen and learned an enormous amount. I've watched this country being thrown into chaos politically. I blame the public and the wholesale apathy they've been persuaded into by successive self-serving governments. This apathy manifests itself in the recent General Election where we saw the lowest turnout in history! My greatest fear is that Starmer seeks to cancel all future elections and establish a one party state! A tyrannical dictatorship.
The Liebour Government are doing the same now Every decision that has to be made is transferred to an unelected committee to decide what to do Is it because the MPs are incompetent and haven’t a brain between them A brilliant lecture by DS
neither thank you , I think the only real opposition going fwd is Reform , the Uni party politics needs breaking & sooner the better for the sake of the UK & its people
You are right. 100 percent. Kemi is ingenious, another Kamala!, unfortunately a little bit of insight and intelligence is needed to see this !! and I would imagine that most of the Tory party members won’t have it. I’m speaking as an ex Tori party member by the way LOL.
Man a lot of people here have completely lost the plot and are going into the realms of being actual racists. Kemi was born in Wimbledon and is a british citizen. People are saying that she isnt british because she's black or because her name is clearly of African heritage. You can strawman this to anyone, even white brits may have heritage outside of England ffs. As long as she stands for british values, that is what matters. The mai challenge is having the indigenius brits even understand what values they have when 90% of them don't even understand their own history and have 0 education in economics. This new wave of rightists on social media is just as obnoxious as the leftist zealots that weve had for the last 8 years.
I couldn't care less about her colour, her gender, her choice of toothpast, or what colour her bedroom wall is......she supports a liberal Tory party that gave up on conservatism years ago and so provided no robust pushback against the onslaught of culturally deranged liberals. Its not about them its a rejection of the whole party of liberals whose electorate average is 64!!!!!
@Elizabeth-jd3mn that's a valid reason. I'm talking more about the idiots who are using her parents' origins as an excuse as to why she shouldn't be representing the country.
I think the length of delay has been useful. Because we now see the stark lack of opposition. And it’s scary in the face of an utter ideological driven extreme left wing government that wants to bury farmers, pensioners and aspiration.
as if the choice between those two isn't perfectly obviou: the candidate who rose through the ranks because of DEI quotas or the one who rose through those very same ranks despite them.
I'm Team Kemi though. It's mostly on personality. Rob has good policies but we're not in govt so he can't implement them. And I feel he's IDS 2.0 - he'll struggle to get attention. Kemi will get us noticed and get control of the narrative - then the policies can come.

Love David but his live for the Tories concerning me...has he not seen the cancel culture they sponsored that cancelled him? Surely he should favour reform?
Victory at all cost!? A somewhat inspirational yet dilusionary view it would seem, the Japanese thought in the same way throughout the next not so Great War and …. Remind me again please….
Doesn't matter what Kemo says, her heart isn't of this land, she campaigned and stopped visa limits from the 3rd World. I don't trust Bobby either but he could be genuine. Problem is he can't take the Tories with him, too mant wets.
