The MD211 was a popular live television sound stage vocal mic in the 1960’s because it was very intelligible, due to its bright response. Also, since it’s omnidirectional, it was great for performance vocals during movement and dancing. Being omnidirectional wouldn’t be a good choice today with loud bands in small venues with floor wedges but for tv sound stages it was great. A similar microphone was made by Schoeps.

I'm a semi pro singer and I found one of these in Australia for $180 in a really old run down music shop run by an 80 year old man...hahaha! I've used it on a few recordings that I wanted that vintage sound. Great to use in tandem with modern mics too, you can blend the vintage sound with modern.

nice man. I just picked up an old Sennheiser MD 402 K mic from a thrift shop for $2, which is why I ended up on your review. Not exactly the same mic, but I'm pretty happy with the find and looking forward to recording with it.

I have the same microphone but i cant get it working. Would you explain me what you did with the adapter and if you use a special preamp (with phantom power or not)? Greetings from Germany. If my english is not the best i apologize. I am not a native speaker.

Watch the video. the mic has to be retooled to have xlr cables. Modify from the older cable technology to XLR. go to Amazon to get the kits.

@@lordscherbenprinz9310 no phantom/48v for that one, but if you have a buddy who's good with a soldering iron send me a pm and I will send the pinout (some older Sennheiser mics have a different pinout than gr + - (=XLR) which means you have to swap two cables in order to get them in phase + grounded, I'm using one DIY cable for both my MD211n and my MD421n so I can just check the pinout on that cable) pro tips: if you're using a Din to XLR cable and you get a constant buzz, then the din has a special pinout and your ground is being routed through + or -, the mic is most likely fine
