This wonderful song, this warm, expressive voice bring tears to my eyes. Why, oh why did this great artist have to die so early, and why, oh why did this wonderful voice fade out so soon... Rest in peace, unforgettable Robert. Your music has made you immortal.
My Dad was a great Al Bowly fan, and I love Robert Palmer! So first time I heard Robert's version, I was delighted. I had picked up a tape in a record shop in Perth, (on holiday in Scotland), played it in the car, little did I know it was causing some uncomfortable feelings for my husband, who was cheating on me with someone he met at work. Still love the song though!
P&O used it for their TV adverts around the time of the 1998 World Cup. I found that sound weirdly nostalgic then, but for the early/mid 80s,our family trips to continental Europe and the early computing/gaming I was interested in and colour drawings, charts, diagrams I liked to make then.
I was in my bedroom when I got the news that he had died in Paris. Got really nostalgic. got really sad. I was a ten when he came out with Addicted to Love, and I loved it.
You left us too soon Robert I always wanted a man like you and I’m still looking will I never find you I still love you Robert to the day I die 💋💋💋❤️❤️
Letra: Riptide caught in a riptide, torn between two loves The old and the new Riptide lost in a riptide Where will it take me what shall I do? My heart is tossed on a sea of emotion One love offers romance The other devotion A new love is calling The old love is pleading I'm caught in a riptide what shall I do? Riptide caught in a riptide, torn between two loves The old and the new Riptide lost in a riptide Where will it take me what shall I do?
I seem to remember the BBC using the instrumental opening to this as the theme to the European Athletics Championships in September 1986,held in Stuttgart I think.
I remember it from the BBC athletics as the theme. Some viewers to 'Points of View' queried why this slow music piece replaced a more lively sporty one from the previous BBC athletics coverage.
@@deldirk7123 I don't remember it being used as a long term replacement, possibly for just these championships. It was a current Album/Single at the time,so maybe just caught the producers ear....
Correction: was their coverage of the 1987 World Athletics Championships in Rome Italy. I remember cos I was glued to it everyday & remember that tune. Just found this. Oooo, Memories...😊 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BfpCG0Iehj4.html
Just came across this video and I'm sorry to say it falls flat for me. Whoever conceived this concept did not do Robert any justice. Check out original version of song by Al Bowlly - linked below by Alan O'Neill. . It's a terrific piece of work. RP deserved better.
