What an amazing guy. I live in Kidderminster only 5 miles from him. He is the most polite and friendly man you could ever meet . Robert is the true legend and deserves that label too. As a lifelong fan people say never meet your hero’s. I have met him a couple of times, including out walking his dog . Most memorable respectful, friendly conservation I have had in my life. A legend and hero worth meeting
I live over in Smethwick, not far from where Phil Lynott was born in West Brom. When the first lockdown ended, my family and I took a walk around Kinver and we too bumped into him walking his dog. He was gracious enough to return my somewhat awestruck smile.
@@brendanpmaclean Wow Brendan , great yes he is such a nice guy. That is nice to hear They say never meet your heros, but he made a great impression on me. The first time I met him was in the late 80`s when I was a Mcdonalds manager in the old Kidderminster store. He had just played with a small band in the town centre raising money . I became very childlike and so glad this was before smart phones . ha ha ha

Every interview I've EVER watched with Robert Plant has always been fantastic! The man is so thoughtful, so charming, so charismatic, so well spoken...I cherish everything he does :)
Think this chair was safe sterile We have to realise he is not young he looks perfectly comfortable he is a very big Tall man yes he lived not far from us My father in law was his Personal Builder Sid , Who worked for him doing some interesting work in happy Valley / For many many years he shopped in Aberystwyth regular people never interrupted him he was left alone & Holiday makers would not expect him to be there so he lived quietly for long time , Saw him live in Knebworth 1990 Gig of the Decade for the cleft Awards.
@Richard B He has lived a very normal life , shopping in Lidl is not pampered by any stretch of the imagination , no he may be wealthy but pampered is nothing near his life, Check reality , not what you think he lived for .He is a Normal person he may have had a Home all his life but advantaged no sorry not the man I saw or heard about from my Father in law.
I bumped into Mr Plant on my 40th birthday, in Lyme Regis, UK. Couldn't believe no-one else had recognised him. I told him I loved 'Raising sand' and he leaned into my car window, looked at my girlfriend and said 'So far so good'. For some reason I called him 'bob' and asked where I could park(as if I'd known him for years). He let me have his parking space. He was very nice. I Shook his mighty hand and off he went in his robin reliant. Rest of my birthday was an anti-climax as it sunk in and I thought of all the other things I could have asked him, instead of where to fucking park.
That’s an awesome story !! I met him in a hotel in Peoria Illinois it was his first concert coming to America and he played in Peoria Illinois after Zepplin of course I was the worlds biggest Zepplin fan! But after the show we followed his limousines back to the hotel we waited in the lobby with probably 100 other people he finally came down off the elevator and he was mobbed by people ,he could see the three of us standing off to the side waiting to hopefully talk to him he came right up to us he was the nicest humblest superstar I’ve ever met he asked us how we like to show how we were doing where we were from he was like talking to one of your high school buddies very down to earth very nice! A few years later in Chicago I met Jimmy page after a Firm show he also was very nice but a bit more shy than Robert Roberts very gregarious and outgoing Jimmy was very nice took pictures with us and signed autographs for people but a bit more shy but very nice
It was an organic, real encounter. Be happy you had that connection. I would have been tongue tied. Good on you. I’m sure he appreciated the Raising Sand compliment as opposed to a gushing reaction to Kashmir for the thousandth time.
@@briano.5746 You’re right. I just thought it seemed a bit premature since most of them are still with us. Unlike some of the other greats that we have sadly lost recently.
Your thoughts are mine because I saw Zeppelin two times in Seattle and Robert on all his solo tours. Growing up in the 60s and 70s we had the best music to listen to and nobody can tell me differently
He’s only 72. That’s not ancient. Former President Trump is 73, and Joe Biden is 78. So given that, 72 is not that old. Not that either of the presidents are very sharp. LOL
Very true. Led Zeppelin will never exist again, yet Robert Plant respects that legacy as it is revered in the 21st century. Great logic from one of the original Gods of true heavy metal.
Robert Plant was always a legend and ahead of the times with his creative voice and poetic songs they inspired me as a teen. Amazing skills, one of a kind.
He was a fine looking young man! Just so sexy . I saw them in 72 and 73, they were outstanding! And they were all good looking! But Robert and Jimmy. Have mercy 😜
Robert Plant is so interesting a guest - he's like a walking encyclopedia when it comes to blues ,skiffle and Rock-'n'-roll - and their place in the story of popular 20th century music. And - he's so modest. 👍
Robert is such a gentleman. I've always loved his mind since I was a small girl. The lyrics are truly poems of the heart and mind. I'll be 90 and still rocking out to LZ!
I saw him at Disneyworld in 1977. He was with his family. I asked him if he'd mind if I took a photo. He obliged and that was that. I couldn't believe it. I was 21 and a huge fan. Sadly his little son that was with him passed away within the next month or two. I was at work when I heard of that and thought it couldn't be possible, I just saw that little guy a couple of months before.
@@donclanton701 he may have just blended in with the crowd had I not read a Creem or Circus (rock and roll) magazine the day before that had Zeppelins tour schedule and I noticed they were in Tampa within the next couple days. I just would have written it off as a guy that looks a lot like Robert Plant with a lady that looks a lot like his wife (recognized her from movie Song Remains The Same).
@@MrDro1128 I actually have 2 of about 15 that I took. I loaned all but these 2 with the negatives to a friend that lost them. He's dead so I won't speak poorly of him. Only one photo was posed and the rest I took as they walked away.
@@autumn1231 Right on. Not a lot of people in the scheme of things were able to photograph themselves with musical history icons like that- in there prime. That just makes the last 2 even that more special. Adding to the story that was created way back when.
This is how interviews should be and indeed used to be. Intelligent, informed people trading experiences and opinions with no playing to the gallery and hysterical audiences cheering every phrase. It's great that Robert has kept his roots and his feet on the ground after all he's been through. Like others, I could listen to him for hours

He really is a beautiful soul....so gentle. Huge heart...down to earth. Grounded to his roots. Loving Father...wish i had Robert's energy...lol...I am 10 years younger...But have been through the wars health wise. Robert works so hard..To create such amazing music. Travelling touring..Sounds exhausting....Living his life to the max always...but stayed honest and unaffected by fame...Just love him.❤❤
That is the difference between a artist vs. Performer. Today's music will never be authentic because it is read off a script. When Zeppelin and the Beatles were in business they spent months working on it so it was authentic!
You read my mind. I don't mean to talk badly of contemporary artists but they just don't seem to be in the same league. When you consider how young LZ were (and many of their contemporary musicians), it is amazing their maturity and abilities. For sure there are great musicians today but they are likely to not make it to the tv, radio, recording studio. "Talent" shows are all about manufacturing and promoting a product, imo.
In fairness it certainly helps the interview format immensely if Jools Holland is the interviewer. He's an engaging man and obviously an incredibly musical person. You generally don't get that these days with normal hosts.
I in all truth, since 2015. Seeing him with the sensational space shifters. Then through his awesome podcast. I have become a bigger fan than I have ever been. And I never imagined being a bigger fan than I was in high school 40 years ago. But its true, he is a walking encyclopedia of music, all music that he keeps seeking. Digging for gems. Absolutely brilliant. Check out his band playing LIVE. RAINBOW, and CARRY FIRE. Incredible!!!
I can listen to Him speak about anything all day & be fascinated. He’s got so much insight and enthusiasm. 🤘🏽🔥Zeppelin is my favourite band for a reason...
I met him at Ipswich football club years ago when they were playing Wolves. I tentatively approached him at half-time and he sat and talked to me for the whole of half-time. A truly lovely man.
I met him in Peoria Illinois on his first show after his up on the start of the tour in middle America and Peoria Illinois, we met him in the lobby of the hotel you were staying after the show mobs of people around and we waited patiently and it was three of us and we didn’t have to go up to him he knew we were gigantic fans and wanted to meet him he came over and approached us and asked us where we are from what we thought of the show talked for honestly probably five minutes he did that with everybody! He was like talking to your friendly next-door neighbor but he was honestly sincere when he would ask you questions just a super nice guy !!!
Emma Philo yeah Emma he really was so down to earth and genuinely nice talk to everybody in the lobby! I don’t know if I mentioned in my other post I met Jimmy page 1985 or 86 he also was very gracious to everybody it was in a bar in a hotel in Chicago after a show seemed a bit more shy but friendly and took pictures with us very modest superstars.
@@larryj3164 I once saw Jimmy Page outside his house in London UK, I was excited but I am not one to disturb superstars just outside their house lol. Your encounters with Plant and Page seem cool, lucky you :)
I have shared a few pints with Robert over the years. We lived very near to each other when I lived in London. Always a good laugh. Robert can be very sarcastic at times lol.
I always say the same thing. I met him briefly in a pub in Ireland. He threw his head back and sang a few classic notes, I told him I loved him and that Kashmir is greatest song ever written. I walked away and have never been the same. I’d sell my soul to spend a week with him listening and learning.
Robert Plant has a unique way of speaking that always intrigues. Led Zeppelin was one of those "lightening-in-a-bottle" events like the Beatles and so forth. There's a depth and mystique in their songs like no other band. On top of that was much talent and a stage presence. Magical.
Robert Plant,Jimmy Page, john paul Jones and John Bonham will forever be a Band that lives through their music for generations to come ..The Greatest of All Time ..
"When you've created one 'Whole Lotta Love', how many of them do you need?" That's really well said. People always want bands to keep doing that same thing over and over. Zeppelin was genius at connecting the familiarity of their early work to the explorations of the new material they were putting out. It always sounded like Led Zeppelin, no matter how different Fool in the Rain is from Heartbreaker.
Thank you Robert. In the early 70s my best friends older brother took us to a Led Zep show at Cobo Hall in Detroit. Maybe because I was just a kid or maybe because it was my first concert I had ever been to but it literally changed my life. All these years and hundreds of concerts later nothing else can compare to that show. Thank you again Robert, you are my legend.
When I was in middle school back in the late seventies I used to carve into school desks a marijuana leaf and a slogan that said “Robert Plant, the cool plant” Yeh I was goofy.
If your 74 and you were a popular music buff in those days we all went to these shows called package tours in cinemas.and he’s younger than me.I remember seeing Zep at The Hornsey Wood Tavern Wood Green or Bluesville 69 on March the 7th 1969
I saw them at the Oakland (CA) Coliseum, August, 1977. Highlight, and bragging rights, of my life. A coworker was saying how he saw some band, I said "I've seen Led Zeppelin", he says "Well, that trumps everything". Indeed!
These God's will disappear one day, and we will be left with nothing really. Memories are cool. But thinking about when their gone, rock will truly be dead. Today there is nothing worth listening to.
I'm 63 listened to led Zepllin first in 1969 and then all the way through till Presence and yet this is the first time I've ever heard Robert Plant speak at length! What a pleasant guy he is.
I think Robert Is the greatest! His voice after all these years is SUPERB...and he has never allowed himself to be stagnant. Not many others of his contemporaries have accomplished as much artistically. Luv him!
Heard him take this same stroll down memory lane many times and I’ll happily, nay, eagerly listen every time I’m given a new chance. He’s magic. Still in very fine voice too. Saw him live 3 or 4 years ago and he stormed the stage with a ripping version of Trampled Under Foot. Brought tears to my eyes.

Ozzy is a Brummie from the wrong side of the tracks. Robert grew up in the 'Posh' part of the Black Country and went to one of the best free schools in the area. Posh as in he actually had green bits around him and not unrelenting Post Industrial urban sprawl. The rest of us had to walk there and thought we were in the Country! So there is no reason why there should be any comparison. Even though they grew up only a few miles apart. Neither families had 'Money' There isn't a great deal of money in the Black Country or Brum! Working class and proud! I think that helps explain Robert's humility. He has never forgotten his roots, still lives there, is a director of the local football team. As others here have said he shows up in pubs and at charity fetes. Plays in tiny venues. He is special to us. Bonzo was the same.
Robert and his friends changed my life. Started listening to Zep in '68/'69 and still listen today. Most of the music that I listened to growing has been thrown aside, but their music still gets right into my soul.
Robert Plant is a living legend, not only amazing vocalist but an amazing blues harmonica player. All of the great rock musicians from the 60’s and 70’s were heavily influenced by the blues and Robert Plant is one of them.
He is a great harmonica player! I just watched a clip of him with Zeppelin in 70/71 performing Bring It On Home and it was spot on. But he has said he used to play harmonica in various bands when he had no money, so that explains why he's so good at it.

But I've been listening to old Zeppelin interviews and the interesting thing is they came across as articulate, thoughtful, and mature in them even at a time when their lifestyles were filled with debauchery. Jimmy sounds high in some, but go listen to Robert in his 70s interview with Alison Steele. He sounds exactly as he does here! Humble, mature, and articulate.
@@missdee4927 You're right. I always thought they sounded very intelligent and articulate even in their younger days. Yes, Jimmy was sometimes high, but later, when he finally got clean, he also is a pretty good speaker. Still a bit shy, he doesn't like talking about himself, but yes, they are a pleasure to listen to. They were always intelligent, just young and foolish for awhile. Weren't we all?
@@elainemclaughlin9417- All Jimmy does talk about these days is himself though, talking about his formative years and Zep over and over ad nauseum. The guys promised new music for 20 odd years and still nothing. It's too bad, I know he's still got it, he just doesn't do anything much.

@@pleasepermitmetospeakohgre1504 that’s not true, Coverdale himself used to tell people he was the Robert Plant of the 80s, even his ex-wife confirmed it. Rodgers and Plant started singing professionally in 1968. Rodgers and Coverdale are baritones Plant is a tenor.
@@audreycraig9433 You originally claimed Rodgers was influenced by Plant when that isn't true, as you've confirmed by the timeline of their careers.
