McNamara's family can love him all they want but if they respect that deceitful liar who betrayed his soldiers and his Country I have no respect for them. Even after he left office and knew all the lies he remained quiet as thousands more died! What a pitiful creature!! Yes, I'm a Vietnam vet and named my son after my flight school buddy who came back in a box and would be 71, but died when he was 20.
You should be honored to fight for your country. I understand your grievances with the war, but this was the fault of more than a few people. To aim blame squarely at one man is hardly productive, much less understanding. It is immature to say that his family should have no respect for him. Every family should love their family. I have no knowledge of what you might have experienced, nor could I imagine. I respect you for your service and what you have done for this country. I understand that you feel deep resentment against McNamara's actions, but I could never defend a man who seeks to divide a family, or someone who casts aspersions at the grief of a bereaved family. Leave God to judge. Leave a family to love. Terrible things happen in war, but the longer you hold onto that resentment, the more it will tear you in twain, as life moves forward with you on its back, and if you grab at trees, you will be pulled. I hope your friend is up at the pearly gates. He served his country well.
Robert McNamara might be indirectly responsible for all the servicemen who died in Vietnam but as far as I’m concerned full blame for all the ones who died in that conflict lies at LBJ‘s feet!
A man who surrounded himself with supplicants and whose arrogance sent good service men needlessly to their deaths, his passing brings some small closure to families he destroyed. McNamara's folly is taught in history, Henry Ford II gained much when he left and America-Vietnam lost so much. Good riddance to a war lord.
How was his arrogance what caused him to send men to their deaths? You could say fear yes but that fear was reasonable given the what the soviets were doing. We are judging a man's actions in hindsight , ofcourse now we can say that it evil of him to do that when we know the outcome
@@lampad4549no, reasonable is him fighting the Soviets directly. Using Vietnam, a much less developed country of small statured farmers, as a proxy war to flex the US’ military might was completely arrogant and cowardly. Plus, he lost.
@@ant5963 Just because u saw a Simple History video doesnt mean you know the full story, he fully disegragated the army, he thought to offer ppl with learning difficulties a chance to serve their nation too, it wasnt because he was a sadist, this man will have more achievements than u ever will in ur life, from President of World Bank to being one of Ford's Wizz Kids, you think someone with that much intellect would just do it for the hell of it? the people at home did not know the situation in the war, how obselete their overpowering startegies of war were for the jungle, if you look at the British the US should have adopted what Montgomery and the Malayan Emergency Vets told them to, it wasnt his fault, he almost commited suicide in office if you read LBJ's memoris.
