Oh! yeah how adorable romantically playing it is. I was moved so much, not only viola but also piano, stirring and touching veryvery much. (91yrs.Japanese)
Mr. Stegner is an amazing violist. Love everything he does. I do have to say he seems to own a viola that looks easy to play and has an incredible sound. Maybe more makers need to copy his instrument.
One of my tops in the viola repertoire! Though I agree with one of the commenters, piano seems to dominate. Perhaps due to recording equipment?? Never heard of this particular guy, was always fond of Paul Colletti and his recordings. This guy’s viola is very similar to Paul’s. Love that the A string isn’t so nasally and bright, like most violists have (and even cellists). I personally prefer darker colors for the A strings (and in general). Superb performance, felt like every motif was heard and understood. Every section felt very clear. Saving this to my list! 😊
Best rendition in my opinion.M.Stegner is acutely sensitive to Schumann"s musical imagination.I think Schumann composed this piece especially for his children. The last movement is certainly a lullaby. Of all Schumann"s music this is my favorite. Bravo Martin!
Why to critizie the intonation, when you see and hear somebody that's its trully puting his heart on music? I think it was moving and touching. But its my personal opinion.
