Waldszenen ("Forest Scenes"), Opus 82, is a set of nine short solo piano pieces composed by Robert Schumann in 1848-1849, but first published in 1850-1851 in Leipzig by Bartholf Senff.[1]
On the set, Schumann wrote: "The titles for pieces of music, since they again have come into favor in our day, have been censured here and there, and it has been said that 'good music needs no sign-post.' Certainly not, but neither does a title rob it of its value; and the composer, by adding one, at least prevents a complete misunderstanding of the character of his music. What is important is that such a verbal heading should be significant and apt. It may be considered the test of the general level of the composer's education."
Please take into account that the audio and the sheet music shown in the video are not mine.

Sometimes it’s the most simple pieces that are beautiful

Out of all of the complex and intricate pieces Schumann has composed, this piece might be my favorite for a number of reasons. To give some backstory, I’ve always used to play around with my grandparents’ Yamaha Clavinova (I couldn’t recall which model) and, one day while I visiting, found out about the demo songs feature. This piece, specifically Eintritt, was in place for Grand Piano 1’s demo song and I always used to let it play in the background when I was little, just because I liked how it sounded. I didn’t have any idea of who composed it or what it was called, I just knew it as “Grand Piano 1” on my grandparents’ Yamaha Clavinova. Much much later, I finally found out the name of the piece and found out it was composed by Schumann. As you’d imagine, I was utterly stoked upon hearing it. This single piece has played such a large role in my childhood. While I am older now and currently a sophomore in college, I always tend to go back to this piece to remind myself of the innocent and curious years of me growing up.

Listening to these Schumann pieces is the music equivalence of reading something truly magical. Love it.

Agree. Each time I listen there is more I can dig out of it. The Eintritt sets the mood. Herberge ends quietly with the same statement as the beginning done so delicately. Only the second time that it is played.
@sender1496

+Howard Chasnoff Yeah, that's another amazing thing - it gets more beautiful the more you hear it. Personally I feel that both Schumann and Beethoven wrote music that gets more beautiful as you listen, whereas some other composers wrote music that you enjoy as much the first time as the other.

Sen der Even In Einsame Blumen, a very simple piece Schumann uses irregular phrasing. 4 measure phrase followed by a six measure phrase.

I listen to the major large Schumann works like Faschingschwank. aus Wien and Kreisleriana and the C Major Fantasy. I come back to to this one as the most brilliant in its simplicity and subtlety.

"Nicht zu schnell" means "not too fast", but the pianist rushes through like an ICE with highspeed. The ideal speed in my opinion is 30 - 40 % slower, all the nuances are lost otherwise. Fortunately i have a timestretching Speed Control plugin in my Browser :)
