@@sophritoh Not OP, but will give my pov. I’m not sure it’s a matter that bi/gay men are “more” attractive. Being bi simply means that one is attracted to men and women. The sexuality of the other person only factors with regards to if a romantic relationship is possible. Whether someone is attracted to more or less masculine men (or women or non binary, etc) is an individual preference that doesn’t necessarily reflect either individual’s sexuality. There are straight women who are more attracted to lanky/thin men, perhaps because they seem less threatening. Whereas, other straight women are attracted to bigger men because of a sense of protection. What happened when you found out the guy you were dating was bi? He was dating you because he was attracted to you. That means he was available to you. It does seem like you may have ingrained preconceived notions of what it means to be bisexual. As you pointed out yourself, not being attracted to what you can’t have doesn’t explain why you don’t find bi men attractive. The explanation that comes to my mind for that, is it’s possibly based in insecurity and lack of trust. That you may not trust a bi man’s attraction for you. You say that two men kissing isn’t attractive to you, which is fair. Though I’m not sure how that would make them seem less manly. That would have more to do with what you believe masculinity and manliness is and looks like. Genuine physical attraction is a chemical (pheromones) and visual thing. When added verbal information changes that, it’s based on social conditioning. There are straight and queer people who have internalized homophobia. So there are bi women, just as there are straight women, who are “not attracted” to bi men. That all largely has to do with social conditioning and exposure. Same for people who claim attraction to specific ethnicities and/or exclude attraction to certain ethnic groups. Personally, I understand how it can feel like a “personal preference”, because we’re not really consciously cognizant of every little thing that shapes our biases over our lifetime. So what you’ve said makes sense in that context. To sort of answer your question, for some of those who consider themselves bisexual or pansexual, they may explain that their attraction is based on the specific individual-that their attraction takes into account physical, chemical, social, and personal (personality/character). Considering all of that isn’t only relegated to bi and pan people though, they are just more known to embrace that as a defining part of their sexuality.
