And also he’s obsessed with MOZ because he can’t even answer a basic question. They need to stop being talked about in the same breath. Robert and the Cure could never hold a candle to Morrissey or the Smiths. He never could and never will.
@@HistoryPersisti love em both, my preference is the smiths but some cure songs are too good. there’s a reason i made a playlist of just them two bands
In the British army you can call someone a c*n* as long as you say it in a polite way.Jokes aside I like the Cure and the Smiths but I have to agree with the Cure that Morrissey is arrogant and self righteous. 🇬🇧👍
@mini You're crazy, Robert Smith and The Cure are still touring. The Cure has had many hits, The Smiths, not so many. Not in the USA anyway. Look up Robert Smith and ticket master.
@@walkawaycat431 yes i agree the cure was more popular than the smiths.. but is robert a better singer than morrissey? was he a better songwriter? are the swap guitarists for the cure better than johnny marr and andy rourke?? youre right that the cure is still performing, but its not the same band. the smiths are even better because they were less popular. they are a treasure you know about and yet still dont look into. listen to meat is murder, only takes 40 minutes. tell me if any cure album is better than that album afterwards
Good God, MORE recognition? You must be joking. He’s had a ton of recognition. He invented the stupid goth thing for God’s sake. Those little cliques were such irritants during my 1980s high school hell. Moping around, heads hung to the side, trenchcoat-makeup wearing drips - just a touch less awful than cheerleaders.
It's quite a feat that they can (finally) come back and drop an album that's as relevant and potent as it will be. The single and some other songs I've heard live (only through RU-vid😭) indicates a powerful final addition to their discography. Honestly, what artists that were making music at the same time as them are reaching the same consistency? Imo not many, if any, at all. Plus the range of audience ages and walks of life at the shows... The Cure are truly underrated. Side note: we might get a double final album, but that remains to be seen as reality just yet.
@@johnnys-left-earring but Morrisey is the front man, when you think of the smiths, you think of Morrisey, and morrisey is a greasy turd. Like when I think of queen, I think of Freddie, if I think of Idles, I think of Joe Talbot, they're the people who represent the band. So I'd not particularly like being compared to the smiths either, cause then I'd be compared to a wretch of a human
@@johnnys-left-earring The problem is: The Smiths are the much better band with less recognition. The Smiths were a Guitar Band in a Synthesizer Era, whereas The Cure were a Synthesizer Band in a Synthesizer Era. Morrissey & Marr were The Best Songwriters of their time, and Morrissey probably didn’t like Synthesizer Bands. I personally can appreciate The Cure, though I know The Smiths are a much better band. The Smiths have MORE great songs in a short amount of time than any other band in history, other than The Beatles. All that said: The Cure are WAY MORE popular in the US. For Instance: EVERYONE in the US knows SEVERAL Cure songs, and the average person in the US only knows “How Soon Is Now?” All in all: The Cure & The Smiths are BOTH excellent bands. You can’t really blame Robert Smith: A lot of people dislike Morrissey, and Morrissey dislikes a lot of people. So I can’t blame Robert Smith for disliking Morrissey.
@@wildmercuryfilms the cure is a much better band with a longer history and no they aren’t a synthesizer band…listen to their first four records which by the way came out before the Smiths even put out their first.
i love the cure and the smiths. nothing will change my mind. their music speaks to my autistic self and gives me such wonderful joy that i have never felt in my life
Other way around, Edward Scissorhands was a copy of Robert Smith of The Cure. This interview is a few years before that film came out. The film Director Tim Burton is a Cure fan.
@Cureboy1 and he also tried to get the cure to make the soundtrack, but they were busy with "disintegration " I believe, so they turned the offer down. I could be wrong I apologise already if so.
Comment makes no sense. The Smiths' lyrics were the opposite of arrogance. They deal with feelings of being inadequate, lonely, and are very self-deprecating (mocking one's lonely depressed situation). Morrissey is arrogant in interviews and real life but that's not what makes him good as a lyricist/singer.
* Robert SMITH dissing The SMITHS. * Robert being nice about his dis. * Morrisey legit being a dick, but no one cares because he is brilliant. * And both The Cure and The Smiths, separately yet simultaneously, defining a generation. It is like a twisted, ironic lyric in one of their songs.
Morrissey has done alot of questionable things however the smiths have at least in the UK had a bigger cultural impact that’s not to say I don’t love the cure because I do.
He shouldn't Dislike a well known band because of the Lead...Even if they were both competitive for Air back then!Yes Morrissey and Robert despised each other even still today!🤣🤣🤣
I listened to the smiths from 1986 and only recently watched an interview with Morrissey and I wished I never did. He's definitely arrogant. I can see why Johnny Marr stopped their relationship
That is my dream line up.. would have killed to see those three bands in the 80s.. I’ve seen the Cure but it was a couple of years ago..it was still amazing but this lineup would definitely be the GOAT…
At least Morrissey was upfront about his arrogance in their music..I actually think it was the best part of his charm..at the very least u can’t say he wasn’t authentic lol 🫡
I just found out days ago and I immediately decided I'm just not listening to Morrisey's music anymore. Some of their songs were among my favorites but I'll live without them knowing what I know now about Morrisey.
