Hay he is stinking fucking rich. And yes you can say it's not about the money man. Well when you had been chugging along as Robert had when he got the gig in Mettalica and a million dollar sign on bonus. Yeah he payed his fucking dues now he gets to chill and not completly destroy his fingers. If it's not about the money which for the first 20 years or so I guess not but why don't you just ask Dave Brockie if at some point it's not about the money? Oh what what's that oh really Dave Brockie is dead? THE MIGHTY SPACE GOD ODERUS ORONGUS from GWAR is dead yeah he is died of an overdose March 23 2014 he was 50 years old. Now he always said it's not about the money he didn't care about that but after 30 fucking years and at 50 do you think he would of been happy being broke or getting by and playing in GWAR or being as rich as metallica or half as fucking rich we'll anyone younger then 40 I'll answer for you FUCK YES IT WAS ABOUT THE FUVKING MONEY BY THEN YOU FUCKING IDIOTS. Do you think a guy who never really had a drug problem drank sure drugs not so much would of died if a heroin overdose if he was as rich as metallica fuck no. I mean ODERUS ORONGUS OKED A POUND OF CRACK A DAY BUT NOT HUS HUMAN SLAVE DAVE BROCKIE. after a while it's always about the money kids don't fool yourselves... RIP DAVE BROCKIE AKA ODERUS ORONGUS 64'-14' GGGWWWWAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Dealing with having to be around Lars would be far more challenging.
Does everyone know Metallicas past history? Is everybody who is commenting on this thread learned on metallica's history? Just curious. Because everybody seems to be talking shit on Lars and don't get me wrong but fuck him, I mean talk about some fucking huberous on that fucking jack off. I mean he plays music like a fucking amputee! Can't hold a note can't carrey a fucking tune. What I am saying is I am very aware that the most popular Metal band in history would not exist if it wasn't for that fucking Danish half twit named Lars Ulrich. It's his band and was formed by him. Now they might all be equals now but he put the add in the paper he picked the line up. So he might not be the best or even amazing but he plays in the pocket solid and the first 3 albums are a bitch especially an Justice for all I have played for 25 years and lived most of that in the Bay area were I was lucky enough to meet them along with many bay area and so cal epic thrash & metal bands so show some respect. If James did not steal most of Ride The Lightning minus the solos from there origanal lead guitarist DAVE MUSTAINE of Megadeth fame they would'nt be were they are today. Besides all true thrash metal musicians and fans know MEGADETH- RUST IN PIECE is the best Thrash album of the 80's-90's... Cheers
@@jasonbrandau1132 Lars is still ass. No matter what you bring to the table. He was in the right place at the right time. Thats all he has going for him. He has never been an influence or in any top 10s, that proves enough that nobody likes him. He was piggy backing off everyone else. He got lucky. That was it.
I love the humility of a great musician respecting the art of other great musicians. I don't need any more Metalica in my life, but I'd love to see Meshuggah and Gojira touring together. Two best drummers on the planet.
He seems to speak with some real passion about Meshuggah. And the part where Robert tells about having them partying in his house is remarkable - he's just shining about it like a kid. Such a great open and humble personality he is!
Trujillo is a true fuckin beast of a bassist. Go listen some Infectious Groove, Suicidal Tendencies, you'll see what I mean..... He says in the interview that challenge in Metallica for him lays in the songwriting experience and onstage performances. I'd put him into Messhugah's lineup without any doubt.
+1bgrant hahah that'd be hilarious as one of the VERY legendary and famous bands would be instantly squished into scraps of worthlessness regarding everything about music, when compared to meshuggah
I like that Meshuggah is under the radar now. They are free to do what they want without the constraints that popular bands sometimes have put on them.
i used to love metallica, but after i heard meshuggah and started understanding them, NO one could be as good or better than them (thats my opinion). however, with that being said, i don't hate metallica, i respect them, cuz they started a new metal scene. even meshuggah was influenced by metallica back in the day. dont disrespect the band who was the origin of other metal groups
Meshuggah's first album+ EP sounds like a combination of Pantera and Tool with Metallica/Slayer. Besides that, going into Future Breed Machine they are a completely different band.
Rob seems like a guy that's just a good natured person. Like he doesn't let the money or the status go to his head. He's always seemed extremely genuine and grateful for everything that he has. I'm not saying that the others don't, but he seems very humble and kind. He's also a damn fine bass player. I loved him in Infectious Grooves.
I love when one great musician references another. I watched the making of Medulla documentary and it made my day when I found out that Bjork is a fan of Swans.
Like Tool, Meshuggah were game changers. They brought something completely original to the table and created a whole new sound, with countless bands trying to imitate them.
I'm not a fan of metallica (well now a days) but I gained a lot respect for Rob to mention one of the most innovative bands that we will see in our generation.
So glad that Rob is bringing Meshuggah to Metallica's attention. That with Kirk's solo with them awhile back, and they might even catch some of that influence everyone else seems to fail at constantly the past few years.
I've always felt that the Metallica hate is mostly just a mass phenomenon like you said. People don't have a real opinion on the subject so they follow the idea which is "fashionable" in the metal scene. The classic sellout/ Napster arguments are fuckin hilarious.
Nah dude, Metallica are way past their prime Hetfield has a solid downpicking technique and has tight riffs Trujillo blows them all out of the water Kirk has been recycling the same minor pentatonic licks and run and hasn’t innovated much in all these years Don’t get me started on Lars Good for Trujillo to earn bank but they don’t deserve him
first three Metallica albums i think are excellent start to finish, everything after is just kinda meh, has their moments but not nearly as strong as Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, or Master of Puppets
Plus, all the people who hate on them probably listened to them at some point. They're not my thing right now but I'd be a liar if I said I didn't go through a Metallica phase. I have eleven shirts to prove it.
@@CursedSabbath. meshuggah didnt play ''djent untill 2002 peak of nu metal's popularity bro lol they ripped off korn just like metallica and sepultura and machine head and countless others did.
i love both but i think the casual metallica-listener would explode from what Meshuggah plays XD saw them live at Wacken Open Air this year and it's unbelievable to hear Meshuggah play live :D
Sad to say, but most Metallica fans can't handle Pantera, nevermind Meshuggah, more than half the crowd would hate it. Most Metallica fans from the black album arent' even real metal fans, they just got on the wagon. I would like to see Meshuggah and Metallica, but Annihilator is probably a better fit for thrash metal fans. And Jeff Waters could teach them how thrash metal is done today.
Uhh WTF? Im a huge Metallica fan and probably my favorite band of all time and I like a wide range of metal music from Pantera to Lamb of God, and even some death metal.
how its that metallica could be ever in tour with metallica, its like to jump from a horror movie to a comedy one (meshuggah to metallica respectively)
@Keir Mac Donald, members of Meshuggah have stated through the years that ultimate band they want to tour with, is Metallica. Are you aware of Meshuggah's roots? I think you are very mistaken with your perception.
Robert is a very humble Person. I like that very much. Being humble (and maybe funny too) doesn´t mean you cannot kick some serious ass on stage. Y´all know....
@Wheelio Protest The Hero are one of the many few modern bands (along with Mastodon and Lamb of God) who keep me listening to metal. Their weird style is fresh as hell. It's nice to have an extremely melodic band these days.
Metallica and Meshuggah playing together would be the perfect representation of two bands that started in the same place and ended up in entirely different places
Come on people! Metallica have written so many great songs. You're comparing apples and pears. I'm a fan of both bands, and they both do their thing very well.
Meshuggah is awesome, and technically leaps above Metallica. However, if you look at the original Destroy Erase Improve CD booklet, on last page there is a list about influences of the band (bands, writers, movies etc.), and it clearly says "Metallica", among others. They even named the albums (Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets). But probably most of you are kids who don't even have the CD, because you buy from iTunes.
Exactly, Meshuggah was inflluenced by early Metallica, but if the crowd was filled with black album and load fans, Meshuggah would get boooed of stage.
+glassprisonFIN oh yea meshuggahs first album is very metallica-ish,. you can tell they grew up loving the metallica as we all did in our youth. before they called themselves meshuggah, they were named metallion! for me personally i think metallica, pantera, meshuggah are the logical evolution of metal. today there are new bands pushing it even further. vildhjarta is one worth mentioning.
Because they got fame and accomplishment doesn't mean they've done anything or are the best. Just good market. Nothing musically. Now I'm not saying they are nothing, nor everything, nor more nor less. Just saying your statement is invalid, Metal Maniac.
That's the funny part. Your's is not a fact. Getting fame and acknowledgement doesn't necessarily mean you're good, as I stated. I never said they are good or not. Just saying that using fame to validate it is completely inaccurate, but you do you, "Metal Maniac". I suppose we'll just agree to disagree.
Also it seems that Meshuggah is the band that all the more mainstream metal bands like and plug in interviews. I'm sure the rest of us will catch up soon enough!
@theSyringe I agree with you, metallica are more commercial than they used to be, but Death Magnetic was their best album since the Black Album. They're getting better, but they'll never make an album as good as Master of Puppets.
It's funny when said "I'd like to tour with Meshuggah at some point but they're very busy" Yeah right, when Metallica ask you tour with them, you drop everything you're doing and you do it. I'd say that someone else in the camp doesn't want this to happen.
Best Tour Ever: Start with the bonecrushing brilliance of Mastodon, then let the reign pour with some fucking disturbing speed of Slayer, 3rd that with some incredible Progressive blackened Death metal by the god father, the band we call Opeth. and then Destroy this earth with no other then the one and only Meshuggah ! now that is a fucking tour my friends
