Roberta requested to have this performance removed from the CD album release of the soundtrack to the concert. Her first two albums are unbelievably good, as is this version.
Her vocals are absolutely flawless. What's crazy is Donny Hathaway , Curtis Mayfield and Leroy Hutson wrote this joint. The musicians on the studio version were flawless too
The piano is so horribly out of tune, and probably terribly adjusted, that it would have driven a perfectionist like Ms Flack nuts. Also, the sound isn't very well balanced. Generally not a performance that a perfectionist would want archived. Of course, her singing is great.
It's such a shame that this wasn't okayed for reissue on the DVD. I can understand that the audio quality was impaired by the wind, also, the piano is way out of tune, but her vocal performance is probably the best moment of the entire show...and there's some pretty killer moments throughout.
