That is incorrect all tree peonies are grafted on to a herbaceous peony root stock simply (unless started from seed) because they have more vigorous root growth than tree peony. This why you plant your tree peony as you do with tomatoes a little deeper. So with tree peony, you can see the graft union make sure that the graft union is two inches deeper the soil level after removing all foliage that will get buried underground doing two fantastic things for your tree. One it will keep any fungus spores on the foliage from affecting your plant or garden bed. The second thing everywhere there was a leaf that is a bud that will stimulate root growth then once the tree peony graft is growing strongly it will outgrow the herbaceous peony root and will wither away. At that point, the tree peony will be growing with its own roots. Also, the comment made about this family is being the only ones to bring tree peonies to the United States is simply not true. The reason they are not more common is that before grafting it was more difficult to get started in gardens and secondly they are and can be extremely expensive. As the cost for greenhouses to develop and grow on has gotten cheaper the price of the plant has as well so some of the savings are passed on to the retailer and then passed on to customers. Not because China is not allowing them out. That is so false. QVC host or the producers of this shopping program need to do their homework and research on the products they are offering.
They show a non-grafted bare root. I think they were able to locate a Chinese grower who either grew from seed and sort them by color or are somehow able to root these own-root. The exclusivity aspect may have some merit. Almost all peonies exported out of China to the US is grafted varieties that are the same thing every year. Again, these are probably selected seedlings sorted by color.
@@darae3936it’s grafted. Peonies grown from seed doesn’t grow true to color. And it’ll take at least 3 years to even flower. The ones they’re showing looks like named varieties. Unless they grow thousands of seeds and picks really similar colors , I don’t know how they have so many of the similar colors to sell. If I were to buy the pink one and it doesn’t look look like the pink one shown, I call that misrepresentation.
Who are you guys trying to fool?? This is not true about the olive oil you guys! Flight attendant here & I bring it home all the time, olive oil and wine in my luggage… That’s right no one ever says a word so long as I claim it in customs… 🤦♀️
