How very wonderful for you, this is my most favourite ballet, the music is divine, and the choreography is also brilliant, you must be very proud of him, especially as he is so young to be dancing in this important production. I first saw this ballet about 20 years ago, the company presenting it was Queensland Ballet I think, I had not seen it before and the music and the dancing transfixed me. Apologies - there is no complete version of Roberto and Alessandra dancing in Manon, and ideally it would have been great to have the whole performance - I have seen Roberto live many times now, but never with Alessandra unfortunately, however I have seen him dance Manon two or three times, most recently in the stunning performance at ROH on Nov 1st with Zenaida Yanowsky.. The pas de troi on that ocassion featured Acosta as LesCaux and William Tuckett as Monsieur GM - a treat to see Acosta and Roberto sharing the same stage.

BlueRaspberry That would have been nice. I saw the 1974 premiere of this ballet at the KC in Washington DC, when I was young, with Anthony Dowell and Antoinette Sibley in the lead, along with David Wall, Monica Mason, and Wayne Sleep, etc. I began dancing because of this ballet, actually--that is how much I loved it. I still do. Alessandra was someone I was very envious of, for her dance and acting abilities. She was such a natural! I could not match her--if so, you'd have heard of me by now! lol

Vivian Taube I am sure you know that both Anthony Dowell and Antoinette Sibley are still working with dancers at The Royal Ballet - there is a clip of them somewhere recently - rehearsing Melissa Hamilton and Matthew Golding for Manon it might be worth hunting out if you want a blast from the past :))

BlueRaspberry Yes, I saw that, recently, by chance. It was awesome to see them together, again, even just coaching.

Hi Giovanna, How right you are. Both Roberto and Alessandra valued their partnership highly. Alessandra says "He's a perfect partner. He's so strong -- it's a pleasure. You can really abandon yourself. He's the strongest person I have ever danced with. For a woman, to be in his arms is very reassuring," Roberto's partnering is always extraordinary but dancing with Alessandra with her ability to express herself emotionally. gave Roberto the freedom to do likewise making for many many memorable performances.

BlueRaspberry Actually I feel he gave his best with her . Like in other famous partnerships ( Fonteyn-Nureyev) it seems that a young male dancer with a more experienced female partner works marvel...doesn't it?

Giovanna Joglekar and another famous pairing of recent years, Daria Klimentova and Vadim Muntagirov...exactly the same. And I have no doubt that you are right.
