His greatness was that he could hit any pitch, thrown anywhere, to anywhere on the field. A shift could never work on Roberto.

Growing up in the Pittsburgh area and having the opportunity to attend Pirate games and watch Roberto Clemente and how he played the game was something to behold. Not only was he a superb athlete but also a great human being. We always tried to get seats along first base line or right field wether it be Forbes Field or Three Rivers stadium so we could see Clemente close. Wish we had more athletes like him to be positive role models to the youth of today.

Just wish there was a clip of the greatest forgotten HR in major league history. The only player to hit an inside the park grand slam in the bottom of the 9th in a walk off fashion to end the game on July 25, 1956 against the Cubs.

An incredibly special human being. It’s an honor to keep his legacy alive in Pittsburgh - one the whole city takes very seriously. The name Clemente and the number 21 are almost holy to us. And maybe I’m a little biased bc I do have Puerto Rican family, but I have always felt that PGH and PR have such a strong profound connection bc of Roberto. That’s the power of sport and the mark of a great man - he made the world a little smaller. Much love from 412.
@reybarreto7979
@reybarreto7979 Год назад
He inspired generations of Latino ball players, setting the example of, not only how the game should be played, but also how life should be lived - by giving of himself with all his heart, and genuinely caring about others. Not only caring but also having the courage to do something about the injustices he saw around him, having the willingness to help people in need even at the risk of his own life. In the way he fought racial barriers in baseball he is often compared to Jackie Robinson but in his humanitarianism and in his fight to win respect and equality for Latinos, one can also see the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. in Roberto Clemente. He transcended the game and will forever be a source of pride for us Puerto Riqueños.

I live in Kentucky. I was born after he died. I got into baseball and read about all the great players the game produced. Roberto was different. He seemed smaller in size but made these incredible plays. I did a book report on him in first grade in front of the whole school. If he meant that much to me, a white kid from Kentucky who never saw him play, imagine what he meant to all those Pittsburgh and major league baseball fans who got to see him play every day! Clemente transcended baseball. There'll never be another one like him.

My boyhood hero. I’m 68 years old and sitting here crying like a baby. The immense talent Roberto had was only matched by his humility. So many great things in this video to comment on but I’ll keep it to just two. Everyone knows what a great hitter he was but he had, in my opinion, the best throwing arm in the game for years. The throw from right field to 3rd base on a line is incredible. His speed on the bases is also under appreciated. Loved hearing the voices of Bob Prince and Curt Gowdy. Thanks for the memories.

He fought for Latino and Black players' rights alike in an era where racism was at its peak, he never backed down on his beliefs even though his knowledge for the English Language had his limitations. On the field he was exactly like you see in this video, a lion preying for his victims. He was a great friend, a wonderful family's man and a better citizen, he will be missed always, RIP.

I saw Roberto Clemente play against the New York Giants and the New York Mets at the Polo Grounds. No one played baseball like Roberto Clemente. Hustle? He never hustled, because he always played at levels above hustle. In every moment he gave more than his all, not just to playing baseball, but to humanity. The Baseball Hall of Fame should include an annual enshrinement for players who lived up to the highest level of humanity. I can think of a few who are near Hall of Famers, but when you add their Humanity, they should be enshrined. Dominic DiMaggio was 4-F for the army, but managed to enlist into the Navy to fight against Fascism in World War Two. William Hoy, called "Dummy," was a deaf-mute who endured ridicule as a "freak," yet was perhaps the greatest defensive outfield of his time. They both belong in the Hall of Fame on their own merits, but add the Humanitarian aspect, and they Really Belong. Among recent players who had really good careers, but won't make the Hall of Fame, Curtis Granderson comes to mind, but he has dedicated himself and much of his fortune to humanitarian work. Anthony Rizzo, among current players, fall into this category. So, Baseball, let always honor Roberto Clemente by honoring those players who not only played baseball really well, but were even better at being Humans. Let's establish the annual Roberto Clemente Inductee to the Hall of Fame. Viva beisbol, and Viva Roberto Clemente para siempre!
