Clancy hated Hagler and contributed to the perception of Haglers loss against Leonard. He was also down on Hagler through the whole Mugabi fight and was obviously hoping beyond hope that Mugabi was winning when he wasn't. If you listen to that fight it makes you wonder how knowledgeable he actually was. He keeps saying that Hager isn't throwing his left hand straight, Tommy Hearns actually has to explain it to Clancy that he's trying to loop the punch. My favorite Clancy moment though was when he cornered Cooney against Foreman. When Gerry gets back to the corner he says "you're doing good" he doesn't give any tactical advice and sends Gerry out with a gob of vasaline on his brow. I don't think Clancy knew shit. I know his history with Griffith but he fucked with Hagler. I didn't think he was qualified!! He seemed to love saying "Hagler can't get off". I miss Don Dunphy there was a guy that could call a fight. He actually called the fight it wasn't a scotch induced Larry Merchant editorial. There is no one that is any good now they all jump on bandwagons way too early!!
