Australian impressionist artist Tom Roberts painted one of Australia's most beloved paintings in 1890, capturing a time and a culture. Shearing the Rams is one of his masterworks and rightly enjoys its reputation.

The color harmony here is really masterful. The delicate pinks of the ceiling on the right echoing the shearer's shirt, the deep blues of the ceiling on the left and lighter blues elsewhere. The violet columns in the distance, the warm oranges of the far walls, the green tones on the floor in front of the owner and on the ram being brought in on the left, the yellows of the foreground floor... It's always impressive to me when a painter can work in all six spectrum colors and make them harmonize. Not easy to do.
