Not to be pedantic, but as my BA is in Medieval and Renaissance history, this is a Medieval tale, not a Renaissance tale. King Richard at the end is Richard Lion Heart, who returned to England in 1194. The Renaissance period started in different countries at different times but was generally around 1500
Thank you for saving me the time typing out similar. It made my eye twitch when he said it (but I get it...not everyone knows the same things and people are allowed not to know things)
Someone actually watching the Kevin Costner Robin Hood movie before blindly jumping to a Mel Brooks parody of a movie they’ve never seen?! This is why you’re a maverick James.
43:51 You need to! We go fairly often, because we live within an hour from it. Each weekend is a different theme for the 8 weeks it runs. It’s surrounded by large pine trees, which helps add to the feel. This year is the 49th anniversary and we’re actually planning on going before Thanksgiving (theme: Highland Fling) now that it’s not hellaciously hot, lol. The last weekend is always Christmas themed. This was actually my first Alan Rickman movie, since Die Hard was before my time. He’ll always be the Sheriff of Nottingham first, then Hans Gruber. I’m so glad you enjoyed this 90s classic.
Yes! The next movie should be "Robin Hood, Men In Tights". The 1 actor you didn't recognize is Christian Slater. Watch "True Romance" and "Interview With the Vampire."
Ditto, including Morgan Freeman and Christian Slater. I can’t remember if I already knew MSM from The Abyss or if it was this. Side note: I knew Michael Biehn from The Abyss before Terminator and Aliens, so it was hard seeing him as the good guy when I finally saw those, lol
the sycamore tree the kid climbs up was recently cut down by a 16 year old kid just for the sake of vandalism. The tree was britains most photographed tree and the area was known as sycamore gap.
That was so disgusting, but a real symbol of what’s wrong with this world. No respect for anyone or anything. If anyone ever deserved to be locked up, or worse, for vandalism, it’s that kid.
Yeah watched this movie many times as a child in the 90’s and I loved that tree. Was one of my favorite parts. I was quite mad when I saw that article about the Tree.
I absolutely love it when you watch movies that take their stories from novels that you've read. Its a different kind of reaction when you know one version of the story and see a movie that either does similar things or different things
You should watch The 13th Warrior. It's a fantastic period movie that got buried when it was released because there were a bunch of HUGE movies that came out around the same time. If you liked this one you'll love it!
RIP Sycamore Gap Tree So recently this year a 16 y/o cut down the tree that is featured when Robin first gets back to England and fights the men for the Little Johns son.
Sir Thomas Sean Connery (born Thomas Connery; 25 August 1930 - 31 October 2020) was a Scottish actor. He was the first actor to portray fictional British secret agent James Bond on film, starring in seven Bond films between 1962 and 1983. He has had movie rolls in Robin Hood, Prince of thieves The Rock with Nicolas Cage, the third Indiana Jones movie with Harrison Ford the league of extraordinary gentlemen, and the list goes on. When he came on the picture and you said it’s the king I said you’re damn right it’s the king lol Sean Connery was the goat.
7:43 - "No! Don't chop down the tree." - Sadly, somebody did chop down that specific tree, a month or so ago. It was one of the most famous trees in England, situated right next to Hadrian's Wall. They blamed it on a 16 year-old, which I still don't buy. Personally I think it got felled by a local who was getting annoyed at the amount of Instagram tourists it attracted. Overtourism can be a burden on a region, but that doesn't excuse chopping down such an iconic tree.
I saw this in the theater when it came out. Nobody knew Sean Connery was in the film until the wedding scene. Everyone in the theater cheered when King Richard showed up.
Ironically, some people recently cut down the tree that the kid climbs up at the beginning. Four ended up being arrested over it. Never found out what their motivation was. The wall next to the tree was damaged when the tree fell. The wall is 2000 years old from the time the Romans were in England and is a UNESCO Heritage site. They're currently trying to harvest sprouts from the stump so that they might be able to grow another one in it's place.
It wasn't improv per se as much as a decision that fell on the day of filming. One of the Producers who also was one of the writers suggested it. So it was more like a last Minute decision than an ad-lip [source: official audio commentary of the film]
The tree in this movie was demolished by some idiots. The english people are angry on that! And so am i who is swedish! IDIOT people that destroy. Great reaction James! One of my favourite movies actually
The combination of 'revived public domain property with a hit song and villainous Michael Wincott' is also applied to great success in the 90's Three Musketeers, with Keifer Sutherland and Charlie Sheen.
Oh how I wish that was true. I'm horrible just horrible with names. I've actually be working with the Patreon members to create a Actor/Director database for my channel to help keep track.
Alan Rickman not really liking his lines rewrote them with some friends. Iconic lines like "You. My room. 10:30 tonight. You. 10:45... And bring a friend." were not in the script. He was given free reign with his role and litteraly was stealing the show from the main character! Amazing actor... with and an amazing voice!
@@AwesomeUSMovies As you are a bookworm (same as me😉) I would recommend another of his movies Sense and Sensibility - considered as one of the best adaptations of the book - with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet - on your radar. And, another stunning gentle emotional, while surprisingly funny movie - Snowcake. The main role was especially written for Alan Rickman and he not only suggested Sigourney Weaver as his co-star but brought her aboard. The two are practically carrying the whole movie in roles that are complete opposites to what we are used to see them in (I would never imagine Sigourney in that role!) and both are killing their parts!
Fun fact: Kevin Costner was preparing to take lessons to get the proper accent down, but ended up with only a few days between dancing with wolves and this movie filming. He attempted the accent but they decided it was so bad he should go without.

One of my favorite movies, very fun to watch. Great casting, and Alan Rickman is always my favorite character. Thanks for reacting to this. Other great movies that Morgan Freeman is in, are "Driving Miss Daisy" and "Million Dollar Baby".
I went to the cinema with my dad to watch this,... this was a family favourite in my home.... Sad to see the tree in the wall after it was vandalised last month...
This was a few hundred years before the Renaissance... but... uh... yeah... the sets certainly do look like a Renn Fair, don't they? Maybe they should rename Renn Fairs to Dark Ages Fairs or Medieval Faires... I don't think I've ever been to one where they were set up to resemble 14th century Florence. Though, on the other hand, the jousting events they almost always feature were popular during Renaissance-era Norman England.
If you'd like to see a laugh-a-minute film where Alan Rickman really lets himself loose, I highly recommend The Search for John Gissing. It's one of my favorites in his catalog. After you see Men In Tights, of course.
Love this movie! It was a box office success, making $390 million dollars against a $48 million dollar budget, making it one of the highest grossing movies of 1991. Reception was mixed as some enjoyed the action scenes, while others disliked the darker, violent, and more mature aspect of the Robin Hood story.
I'm so glad you watched this before Men in Tights! Too many reactors go straight for the latter and miss the entire point. I love this movie! 😄 It's ridiculed a lot, but it's also one of the most iconic movies of the 90s. Absolute classic. It's fun, action-packed, and emotionally touching from start to finish.
If you are interested in other Kevin Costner movies, I'd like to recommend The Postman (1997) and Waterworld (1995) as two examples of Costner's grand-scale work after Dances With Wolves (1991). I would classify The Postman and Waterworld in the post-apocalyptic genre, whereas Dances With Wolves would be classified as historical fiction.
Azim.. was not talking about caesarean. He was referring to an Episiotomy: cut to the vaginal wall to enlarge opening. Episiotomy, also known as perineotomy, is a surgical incision of the perineum and the posterior vaginal wall generally done by a midwife or obstetrician. This is usually performed during second stage of labor to quickly enlarge the aperture allowing the baby to pass through. The incision, which can be done from the posterior midline of the vulva straight toward the anus or at an angle to the right or left (medio-lateral episiotomy), is performed under local anesthetic (pudendal anesthesia), and is sutured after delivery.
Thanks for this info! I never realized this, but it makes much more sense. A cesarean would have been so risky and painful and she certainly wouldn't have been up and moving around so soon after.
Morgan Freeman has such an extensive library of movies but most of them he's in a supporting role. Driving Miss Daisy, Seven and the Bucket List are all movies worth checking out and all are very different types. By the way, Sean Connery was the first James Bond.
Another Kevin Costner movie “Dances with wolves” &. “The bodyguard”; Sean Connery in the movie “The Rock” & “The untouchables”. This was a great movie! Nice reaction!!
Ursula Andress, the quintessential Bond girl. That's what everyone says. The embodiment of his superiority over us. Beautiful, exotic, highly sexual and totally unavailable to anyone apart from him. Shite. Let's face it. She can shag one punter from Edinburgh, she'd shag the whole lot of us.
I know this movie may not be historically accurate, and it may not be accurate to the real myths and legends of Robin Hood, but I really love it. This movie is just so much fun.
Excellent. Now that youve watched this you can watch Robin hood men in tights. the comedic parody of this and one of the funniest movies ever made in human history
My Favorite Robin Hood! Kevin Costner Christian Slater Morgan Freeman & the late legend Alan Rickman in one of his BEST rolls❤ My husband prefers the Russell Crowe version with Cate Blanchett... Great Reaction as Always James... Also the Bryan Adam's song Everything I Do from this movie is Amazing ❤
Alan Rickman is excellent no doubt however both of you are wrong the Patrick Bergin Uma Thurman version is the best released the same year as prince of thieves.
The one you thought was Filch from Harry Potter is not. Duncan was played by Walter Sparrow, who passed in 2000. Other movies he was in at this time was The Secret Garden, and my favorite, Ever After.
This was a good pick for a mythology movie. Other good picks for that would be Dragonheart (1986) Reign of Fire (2002) Highlander (1986) Conan the Barbarian (1982) And an extra suggestion for you the movie Renaissance Man (1994)
This is a good movie but because of the actors and soundtrack it overshadowed the best and probably most historically accurate Hood film that was released the same year with Uma Thurman as Marion. Although theres no denying that Rickman is an absolute force of nature in this version.
Ya know, I have a friend who's actually from Nottingham and yes, he has brought up Robin Hood in conversation many times. MANY TIMES! 🤨 It's okay. I forgive him. Because he's adorable! 😀
I loved the soundtrack in this movie especially the Bryan Adams song, Everything I Do. You definitely need to watch some more Sean Connery movies First Knight, Indiana Jones 3, The Rock, and of course some James Bond movies😊
Thanks for reacting to this. I almost didn't watch as mostly what I remember from this was how horrible Kevin Costner's accent was. Why did he even bother? His hair was equally as bad. That being said, I'd forgotten about the stupendous job Alan Rickman did. At the time I thought he deserved an Oscar for that performance (and still do!)
COOL REACTIONS! I could've been a Bookworm, the only Book I ever read all the way was "The Outsiders" then watched the Movie after reading the Book in School a long time ago, I'm 37. This Movie was a Favorite of mine as a kid, then "ROBIN HOOD MEN IN TIGHTS" WAS FUNNIER! ROCK ON!
So glad you watched this movie, it’s in my all time top 10 movies. Sean Connery probably the most famous actor in this film. You saw him as Indiana Jones’ father in Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade. Has done so many good movies. One of his best is “The Rock” with Nicolas Cage, a great action movie to check out! Keep your great content coming!
Another incredible Kevin Costner movie is Dances with Wolves. I love this movie but Dances with Wolves is ten times better. Definitely worth a watch! For another great Morgan Freeman movie, watch Glory, which is based on a true story. Incredible movie and mostly forgotten 🥰
35:46 It's saltpeter. But, more scientifically It's called potassium nitrate. I was an Aviation Ordnanceman for 8 years on the LHD-3 USS Kearsarge. I know about explosives.
@@AwesomeUSMovies then you should absolutely put one movie from each of the actors who played Bond on your list to watch! All worth it, especially if you have read any of Ian Fleming’s stories about the character.
