I love Robin Hood, I remember watching many TV episodes of Robin Hood in the 1950s. This was one of my families favorite shows, I’m so happy to able to see Robin Hood again ….Richard Greene is and will always be one of my favorite actors for Robin Hood….HIGH 5…👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼
I was just a kid when this series came out and I don't think I ever missed an episode. Richard Greene was my hero. I was so sad when it finally ended but a couple of years ago I was able to buy the whole series on DVD so can again enjoy my childhood favorite.
I am 71 years old and live in Portugal, but right now I’m six and a half and living in California. This was my favorite T.V. Show, and one of the few that passed the “parent commission”. Thanks
I watched this avidly when it first showed and remain a loyal fan ever since . Richard Greene and his merry band are the definitive interpretation of Robin Hood .
The best Robin Hood (Richard Greene) ever with all original cast, love it!!.. Brings back memories for me!!.. A big Thank You to all involved with this video!!.. Kevin.. 🙂
This is one of 3 modernized and colorized re-edits of certain episodes of the old black and white Robin Hood series. The job done was excellent with new end songs updating these movies for a new generation.Thank you for bringing us the first one.
Thank goodness for RU-vid, I grew up in Robin Hood times, the Golden Hind (Francis Drake) Bill and Ben, Sooty and Sweep and other great programs. As orphans (Eastry Kent) we were not allowed to watch Bonanza (“far to violent”) so this was as good as it got ‘till I was aged 13 (when FINALLY boys were permitted long trousers 😅) My new family here in California love this programming 👌
I watched this Richard Greene series growing up and he's always been my favorite Robin Hood. As a child of the 50's, there was a lot of great entertainment kids don't watch today, and they're missing out!
I read about Robin Hood in English readers as a child at school and have never looked back since. He will always be my hero no matter how many various tales about him appear on TV and cinema. The screens brings him alive so that once again I can refresh myself to all the adventure of him and his merry men while they out maneuver the plans of the vile Sherrif to capture him.The ideals that he stood for make him a lasting hero to one and all. There is a huge appeal in his stories to all those who love fair play, truth and justice and will just about accept any challenge to safeguard it and win.
I rarely missed any of the TV series in the 50s, but I haven't given it much thought since the last 70 years. Finding this movie on your site has brought back fond memories. Richard Greene was well-remembered, but when I saw the Sheriff of Nottingham I knew him as my childhood enemy! Good on you finding and posting this wonderment of a young MT boy.
Television gave the children of the 1950’s their first view of a weekly Robin Hood show. Errol Flynn had done him in the movies but movies didn’t come so easily to TV like they do today. So RIchard Greene became a hero to millions of people. He appeared in other films but this role is what he is remembered for. He was inspiring. If you were a kid in the 1950’s and you heard that voice, you knew it. Another famous hero’s voice from this time period was George Reeves as Superman. Our hero’s back then set an example. Fess Parker speaking as Davy Crockett also exerted a strong influence on America’s youth during this same time period. You remember these historical figures all your life. When these programs are shown again after all these years, it makes you stop and think. We’re they right in what they did for others. Remember Achilles from the Trojan War. The gods offered him a choice. Live through the war and die in your old age as a little remembered king in your country. Or die now in the Trojan War, a great hero remembered for ten thousand years. If you’ve seen the movie, you know which one he picked. Is a man’s reputation that all consumingly important. There are many surprising hero’s in our modern times who fought more bravely with words than with weapons of war on the world’s stage. We remember their actions and speeches. Great leaders like Ghandi, Franklin D.Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and John F. Kennedy. It depends what each generation thinks. As time passes and you don’t see others with visions of peace and unity, who can inspire their nations, you realize how few good men there really were passing through your lifetime.
How well I remember all of them, but also heroes of the movies were setting an example to follow with honesty, integrity and courage, someone to look up to in helping us to become better people in our adulthood. So sad society has forgotten its roots😥😥😥….HIGH 5
I recieved this cut together movie as a gift when I was about 10 (1995) and watched it to the point that I could recite the entire movie from memory, I didnt even known it was an old tv show at the time. Still holds up.
Thanks for sharing this. Never seen this movie, but I’ve seen the Robin Hood series with Richard Greene in them, loved it and I love this one as well….brings back memories of a better time for me and when honestly, integrity, and courage meant something more than entertainment ….. HIGH 5…❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Love the melodramatic theatrical choreography for the fight sequences. Used to watch Richard Greene and Alan Wheatley in the late 1950's when I was a very young boy. Robin Hood still has its charm.
Thank you so much for posting this. I was a huge Robin Hood fan and ran all the way home to watch it with my big brother . Such a pleasure seeing this - Richard Greene was always the best man to play Robin. Thank you so much.
Agree. Although, Bernadette O'Farrell, Alan Wheatley & Alexander Gauge are also perfect in their roles as the Lady Marian, the Sherriff & Friar Tuck respectively. I always thought Bernadette's Lady Marian made Richard Greene's Robin seem more noble, brave & chivalrous somehow while Alan Wheatley's portrayal of the Sherriff made him seem more heroic, decent & upstanding. In fact the entire cast is outstanding.
I watched every episode that came out every week as a youngster on our familiy's 19" BW TV...These were original characters too....brings back those early boyhood memories. Later, I found out that my uncle loved archery too and make his own arrows. That was my early introduction to the sport...what fun!
Yes, he is good but for me it will always be Errol Flynn! Still, it was good, but never the swordfights! The ones in the 1939 version with Flynn and Barrymore are superb! Sorry, as much as I adore the British accent and the good story I can see Robin Hood only in Errol Flynn.
I got this on vhs as a kid for Christmas 1991 or 1992 and just about wore out the tape. I’ve been searching for it for a while and recently learned it was a tv series stitched together to make a movie. Wow. Thanks so much for uploading.
This is a movie made by stitching a bunch of episodes of the 50's series together and ruin them with awful stock audio design that doesn't fit with the original series and sounds way crisper than the original audio which is super jarring, by far not the best way to watch the series. Tho it is kinda cool how they colorized it even if it makes it look kinda cheap unfortunately but all the edits feel really cheap.
I will always appreciate the old Robin Hood movies. Showing Our men today in this 2022 to take a stand and help those who are poor, homeless, etc instead of being about themselves only.
My grandmother had a copy of this that I watched religiously every time I visited. I was really surprised when i found out it was made from episodes of a 1950's tv series. I ended up getting the whole series on DVD when I was older.
What a fascinating retelling of the Robin Hood legend. I particularly enjoyed the different details explaining the name Robin Hood and why and how he became an outlaw and a legend. So many of the same cast as the T.V. Series made it a delight to watch as this Series was one of my all time favourite shows 🙏🏼👏💝
You are so right, I grew up in the era of B&W television, when this series aired originally. To me Richard Greene always will be Robin Hood, the others will always be imposters.
I remember watching this series back in 61'.. when I was 7 years old. Great adventure stories and the good guys always won! We lived on the Gitmo Bay, Cuba US Navy base. That was a place to play 'Robin Hood'. (Well, Robin hood with jet fighters flying overhead..and Marines & Sailors...)
AH YES - "Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen...." - tried never to miss any (of the Richard Greene) episodes back in the early '70s - rousing theme; bad buys; good guys; plotting ladies; derring-do; archery-action; happy ending! - what's not to love? Then Maid Marion went on to advertise Ribena. Fun! Thanx for uploading - very enjoyable.
As young lad growing up, we didn't have a TV. I used to go to my grandma's house to watch this, at 12 years old I was in love with Bernadette O'Farrel, sometime later they changed to a different actress. Never the same again.
It sure is nice, to be able to turn back time, with the Adventures of Robin Hood, starring Richard Greene. As a young boy, I never failed to watch the TV show weekly. He was just as much a hero of mine ad Roy Rogers, and Gene Autry. It is sure nice to see all my favorite actors in this movie, that also starred in nthe Weekly TV program. It lead me into doing archery for many many years. I was forced to quit in my 60's, but I could place 6 arrows in the center, and wrap my fingers around the whole bunch, after the 6th arrow was shot. I have also made robin hood shots over the years as well. My family is of Welsh descent, and I also bare the names Richard Lawrence from my birth. I maybe getting old, and my eyes are not as good as they once were, but I'll still bet anyone, that I can still hit very close to a mark on any tree 6 inches wide. I started archery in my teenage years, and completed as well. This is why I treasure this movie. Thanks to You Tube, I can still go back in time, and watch many a Robin Hood program, as well as the movie, with Richard Greene as Robin Hood..
This was my favorite TV show at this time. At the start there were only 3 or 4 TV's on the whole estate, I used to watch it 2 doors down, it always seemed like every maile kid was present to watch Robin Hood on their 10" B&W TV. When they bought 12" colour TV all the older teenagers were inside trying to help, until they were all kicked out. Wow, it was incredible seeing the show in colour.
Gene Autry was that goomer who killed all those feathered Indians with a pair of Six-shooters. Without ever having to reload. A hell of a feat for a Texan!
I’m with you on this….I too tried some archery, thanks to watching Robin Hood, and I even tried making my own bow, but many issues in life put aside my dream of becoming an archer, family was more important.
@@AngelCatBaby I did Archery for many years, till my shoulder gave out. I would still like to have satyed at it, as it was quite relaxing, and made the archer think better by strict concentration.
Today , after 63 years I got to see Robin Hood again here on youtube by a pure accident. Thank you for posting . I watched it as a kid in Poland back in early 60's on TV. It was in black & white color and I loved it.
hi in 1954 ok remasted in 1991 do you under stand made in color in 1991 i know have both parts part 1 part 2 not 70s or 80s this tv from 1954 looks like that remasted back in 1991 now you understand
The fantastic writing and the great acting of Richard Greene, Bernadette O'Farrell, Alan Wheatley, Alexander Gauge, Archie Duncan & Co make the tv series timeless. This may be why this seems more like a movie from the 70s or 80s even though the tv show was made in the 1950s.
What a great theatrical version. Enjoying the painted scenery and costumes. I have tried to watch as many different versions as possible. I love the newer version with Russell Crow and Cate Blanchet.
What a fantastic show & cast. Bernadette O'Farrell is a delight as Lady Marian, such great presence, beauty, dignity, poise & speaking voice. Many fans believe her the best Maid Marian ever. Always courageous, loyal, clever, heroic, kind & noble. A brilliant archer, horsewoman & spy & always a real lady. Lady Marian saves Robin (or his men) as often as they save her & she makes ingenious plans for the band. You can see why Robin falls in love with her. Bernadette was a huge fan favorite in the 1950s. When departing the show, thousands of fans wrote to her begging her to stay. Patricia Driscoll who replaced her as Maid Marian was also excellent in the role. However, no one could replace Bernadette completely, as she had made the role her own. Likewise, Alan Wheatley is perfect as the Sherriff. His Sherriff is delightfully villainous & dastardly, a cunning opponent & always a deadly threat to Robin & his men. However, he also retains a vestige of humanity & decency. He might even have the best line in the show (at 1 hour, 15 mins & 20 seconds) when he says "Marian, I claim to be no better than the evil times in which we live, but I'm no worse. Would marriage to me be so harsh a sentence?" And Alexander Gauge is a great treat as Friar Tuck. He is witty, friendly, kind, courageous, loyal, honest & learned but ever on the lookout for good food & drink. His timing, cadence & delivery of his lines are tremendous. Richard Greene's portrayal of Robin Hood is also wonderful, perhaps perfect, as many comments here attest.
I too grew up in the UK watching the Robin Hood TV series with Richard Greene. I seem to remember the TV series being a lot more clear and not so much grainy/faded. Hard to remember, was it a daily or weekly?? I'm sure it was daily around 5pm or so? Looks so corny now to watch the scenes, but considering the filming technology....Absolutely fantastic! Considering the bloody mayhem we are seeing and experiencing now in 2021, pity we cannot turn the clock back! I would love to know the actual locations on where these TV scenes were taken. The castles and such!
I see this is a mash up of the Robin Hood/Richard Greene series... but I'm not complaining! My DVD player broke. If this is the only way (for now) I can see my beloved show, I'm content. Thanks!!!! P.S. It's a trip to see it in color. The original series I had was black & white.
During early 70s I used watch the episodes of Adventures of Robin Hood on delhi television...still remembered Richard Green in the title 🎵 Robin hood.. robin hood...riding through the wood...
"THIS WAS A VERY GOOD COLORED COMPILATION OF THE 1950S BRITISH B/W SERIES OF SELECT EPISODES OF 'ROBIN HOOD" WITH RICHARD GREENE. A LOT OF HARD WORK WENT INTO IT. I ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH. I RECOMEND PEOPLE WATCH THE 1938 ROBIN HOOD WITH ERROL FLYNN AND ALSO ROBIN HOOD, MEN IN TIGHTS. VERY ENJOYABLE MOVIES... "
Thanks for thi really great upload! Mr. Kevin Costner, was totally outclassed. Mr. Richard Greene will always be Synonymous with Robin Hood. P.S. I always hoped to hear the music video that was included with this movie!
@@douglassmith4710 I got injured five weeks ago my entire leg got sprained and in a lot of pain. Flynn skipped my mind but is never forgotten. I have watched his film around 40 or 50 times but I did not see it until I was in my mid 20’s whereas Greene was on the tv every week & is the one whom I loved.
What I find so fascinating is that the original ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD aired between 1955 and 1960. This movie is dated 1991 and in so far as I can see the original cast has been retained. All looking fresh out of the television show! As if none had aged one tad. This movie is true to the series in spirit and very wonderful to view in colour. Exciting and full of adventure. I was spellbound. Richard Greene is the consummate Robin Hood. Outlaw and gentleman. I covet the love between Robin and Maid Marion. Magical! Rather endearing and charming film I say. Thank you for posting this rare journey into the medieval past of Sherwood Forest.
This ran before I was born, and until the mid-70s, my family usually didn't have a working TV...so I don't know why I have the theme stuck in my head--I haven't even started the video, but it's in my head anyway. Obviously, I saw it enough for me to memorize the theme, the same way I can remember the themes to Davy Crockett and Swamp Fox. Can't remember a thing about any of those shows, except for the themes. **Come to think of it, I probably know the themes from my parents' record collection--at least a couple of them were on 45s.
this to Inari1987 from jeffrey thank you for up load one robin hood great tv shows thanks for movie but did you know they two parts to this part1 part2 on dvd like this but two full movies in color do you have them they both great to watch take care thank you for upload
The episodes were in black n white.for us . Never thought it might actually h a ve been filmed in colour . There still exists today a colour called sherwood green made famous by Richard Greene. We see Rumpole of the Bailey in his younger days as the merchant.
